Eric Idle (born 29 March 1943) is an English comedian, actor, voice actor, author, singer-songwriter, musician, writer and comedic composer. Idle is a member of the English surreal comedy group Monty Python, a member of The Rutles on Saturday Night Live, and the author of the Broadway musical Spamalot.
Idle was born in Harton, near South Shields in County Durham, where his mother had been evacuated to from the north west of England. His mother, Norah Barron Sanderson, was a health visitor, and his father, Ernest Idle, served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, only to be killed in a hitch-hiking accident shortly after the war. His mother had difficulty coping with a full-time job and bringing up a child so, when Idle was seven, she enrolled him in the Royal Wolverhampton School as a boarder. At this time the school was a charitable foundation dedicated to the education and maintenance of children who had lost one or both parents. Idle is quoted as saying: "It was a physically abusive, bullying, harsh environment for a kid to grow up in. I got used to dealing with groups of boys and getting on with life in unpleasant circumstances and being smart and funny and subversive at the expense of authority. Perfect training for Python."

Monty Python Live at Aspen was a reunion show featuring the five surviving members of Monty Python: John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Graham Chapman was also allegedly in attendance as his "ashes" were brought out in an urn. The Pythons looked back at their work and received an American Film Industry award.
Monty Python created a unique style of comedy writing that transcended sketch formats, and crafted larger, more surrealistically constructed arcs. Eric Idle talks about the way Python wrote the Flying Circus, the backgrounds of the members, and the difference between Monty Python and Saturday Night Live in this highlight from Harper Simon's TALK SHOW. The creator of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT. Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.) The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individua...
Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson 6/7/2010 Guests: Eric Idle, Terry Crews
"Nearly Departed" was a short-lived NBC series in 1989. It only aired for a month! Eric Idle (Monty Python) starred, the series was based on the premise that a dead couple haunted their old home and caused trouble for the new family that moved in. Only the old grandpa can see and hear Idle and his wife. Odd, and fairly amusing.
The first part of Eric Idle's interview on the "Clive Anderson - All Talk" show originally broadcast on 2 September 1999.

Life took over 4 billion years to evolve into you, and you've about 70 more years to enjoy it. Don't just pursue happiness, catch it. I have been very blessed in my life and rewarded with good friends and good health. I am grateful and happy to be able to share this. At least in America, you have freedom of speech, which is a good thing. It's just a question of whether you're allowed to use it on 'Fox News'. I love my family, my wife, my kids, my dogs, my home, my life. I am a very happy and contented man. I listen to the audience and try and bounce with them. All audiences are different. But they are all homo sapiens. It just seems to me that there's no particular reason comedy albums should be dead. There's a lot to laugh at. We have very funny people, still.

It's such fun to take a lot of people and create something silly. It just seems to me that there's no particular reason comedy albums should be dead. There's a lot to laugh at. We have very funny people, still. The dreadful thing about getting older is you cry at the drop of a hat. Life is a comedy when watching and a tragedy when experiencing. I try and share anything I have. I do pool exercises, like weightlifting but underwater. I walk, I swim... I'm pretty fit for an old bloke. John Cleese once told me he'd do anything for money. So I offered him a pound to shut up, and he took it.
Sit on my face and tell me that you love me
I'll sit on your face and tell you I love you, too
I love to hear you o-ra-lize
When I'm between your thighs
You blow me away
Sit on my face and let my lips embrace you
I'll sit on your face and then I’ll love you truly
Life can be fine if we both sixty-nine
If we sit on our faces
in all sorts of places
