Webinar Wednesday: Early Insights of African Business Incubators

On June 3rd, our international team of research operatives in Stockholm embarked on our most ambitious and informative webinar experience we have held to date by presenting 10 webinars in 7 languages over 1 day, an event we named WEBINAR WEDNESDAY. Each of the 10 webinars concentrated on a specific geographic region allowing the audiences to select and view the country or region they belonged to or the one they were most interested in gaining knowledge about. The webinar were available to anyone with a genuine interest in the current state and future of incubation but was especially interesting for those 320 incubators who were benchmarked in this year’s report, who aside from being given a sneak peek on some of the results were also briefed on the benchmarking process. The webinars were presented in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, Arabic and Mandarin related to the main languages spoken in the countries we benchmarked. By separating the incubators that took part in the 2015 Benchmark into their corresponding geographic regions we were able to compare and contrast incubation programmes on a national and regional scale allowing our viewers to gain and benefit from the latest insights and best practices taking place in incubation globally. Our viewers were treated to the preliminary results and early insights with info-graphics relating to this year’s Global Benchmark, these included: Sector focus Information related to university connections Types of enrolled startups Incubator location Profit vs. non-profit incubators in that region Incubation program age Average duration period in that region Number of client startups currently enrolled Operational budgets During the webinars we also took the opportunity to present details and benefits about becoming a member of UBI Global. The webinar was also an opportunity for UBI Global to make some announcements regarding its plans to host UBI Awards events in 7 different regions this autumn. These events will take place between September and November in Canada, Colombia, Italy, and Saudi Arabia and with other locations to be announced soon.
