The Senedd (Senate or Parliament; Welsh pronunciation: [ˈsɛnɛð]), also known as the National Assembly building, houses the debating chamber and three committee rooms for the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff. The 5,308 square metres (57,100 sq ft) Senedd building was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 1 March 2006 and the total cost was £69.6 million, which included £49.7M in construction costs. The Senedd is part of the National Assembly estate that includes Tŷ Hywel and the Pierhead Building.
After two selection processes, the decision was taken that the debating chamber would be on a new site, called Site 1E, at Capital Waterside in Cardiff Bay. The Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Rogers won an international architectural design competition, managed by RIBA Competitions, to design the building. It was designed to be sustainable with use of renewable technologies and be energy efficient. The building was awarded an "Excellent" certification by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), the highest ever awarded in Wales, and was nominated for the 2006 Stirling Prize.
Rising out of Cardiff Bay on a plinth of Welsh slate, the Senedd was designed to be accessible and transparent – an open building for the people of Wales to see their elected representatives making laws and decisions that affect their lives. The Senedd is not just a building for Members, it is your building. It is the main public building of the National Assembly, the main centre for democracy and devolution in Wales. - Mae'r Senedd, sy'n esgyn o lannau Bae Caerdydd ar sylfeini llechfaen, yn adeilad a gynlluniwyd i fod yn hygyrch ac yn dryloyw – adeilad agored lle y gall pobl Cymru weld y cynrychiolwyr etholedig sy'n gwneud y deddfau a'r penderfyniadau sy'n effeithio ar eu bywydau. Nid Senedd yr Aelodau’n unig yw hon – mae hi’n Senedd i chi hefyd. Dyma brif adeilad cyhoeddus y Cynulliad...
Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies AM, questions Labour's First Minister in the Senedd hours after he sacked his environment minister. Alun Davies was axed after trying to obtain personal financial information about five Assembly Members. Just a week before, the First Minister had refused to sack the same man after it was confirmed he had broken the ministerial code. Also featured in these highlights is Welsh Conservative North Wales Assembly Member Antoinette Sandbach.

In early 2017 the Welsh Government will review access to the countryside and inland water within Wales. Whilst so much was achieved in the Countryside and Rights of Way Act there is still so far to go to achieve fair access to water for ALL water users; angler, paddlers, swimmers and families alike. At the moment there is only access to, perhaps, 10% of the inland waters of Wales with most reservoirs, lakes and rivers being restricted or under conflict between user groups! In support of the Waters of Wales campaign we gladly took to the waters of Cardiff Bay and paddled to the Senedd to meet our AM's. Please support the Waters of Wales campaign by writing to your AM and urging them to support the increase of access to inland water within Wales.
