He won't work with anybody else Tim Farron talks about Corbyn ===================================================== Tim Farron has described Jeremy Corbyn as 'helpful' because he illustrates why it is 'pointless' to sit in perpetual opposition to the Tories. The Liberal Democrat leader said he was prepared to lose an election for his principles but not to lock his party out of power forever. Speaking on the fringes of the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton, Mr Farron said it was impossible for Mr Corbyn's Labour to do anything for working people while it squabbled with itself on the sidelines for a generation. A light-hearted session with former Labour staffer turned stand-up comic Matt Forde also touched on Lib Dem fondness for bondage - to which Mr Farron insisted he no knowledge to pursue an 'evidence based approach'.The event was another bid by the party leader to convince his activists the Liberal Democrats still have a purpose in British politics in the wake of the party's 'annihilation' at the 2015 general election. Asked whether he would lead his party into another coalition in light of those results, Mr Farron said: 'In some ways, that's why Jeremy Corbyn is helpful, as a reminder that opposition might be comfortable but it is pointless. 'It's alright feeling good about yourself but all it does is betray working people and refugees overseas and your NHS at home if you could help them but you adopt ludicrous positions that mean you will never win and so you can't. 'You do more damage to them than the Tories do.' Mr Farron has repeatedly told activists at the conference that the Momentum movement is a far inferior campaigning organisation than Liberal Democrats. And he said: 'The people around him are some pretty hard-bitten Trotskyists and they have been trying to take over the Labour Party for generations. 'They don't give a monkeys about winning a general election, they want to take over the Labour Party and so they have.'.....
