Plot: In 1874, in the Imperial Russia, the aristocratic Anna Karenina travels from Saint Petersburg to Moscow to save the marriage of her brother Prince Oblonsky, who had had a love affair with his housemaid. Anna Karenina has a cold marriage with her husband, Count Alexei Karenin, and they have a son. Anna meets the cavalry officer Count Vronsky at the train station and they feel attracted by each other. Soon she learns that Vronsky will propose Kitty, who is the younger sister of her sister-in-law Dolly. Anna satisfactorily resolves the infidelity case of her brother and Kitty invites her to stay for the ball. However, Anna Karenina and Vronsky dance in the ball, calling the attention of the conservative society. Soon they have a love affair that will lead Anna Karenina to a tragic fate.

Plot: The film is based on the eponymous book by Leo Tolstoy. Anna Karenina (Drubich) is a young and beautiful wife of Mr. Karenin (Yankovsky), who is 20 years older. Anna moves in with Vronsky, and her life becomes more complicated then ever. Vronsky comes to a point, where his personal career is compromised by his relationship with Anna. She becomes traumatized by the conflict between her new desires and her duties as a wife and a mother. Painful reality causes her a depression and suicidal thoughts. Anna loses interest in such a life and jumps under a train.

Plot: In a small village in West Prussia in the 1870s, Germans and Poles, Gypsies and Jews live together as neighbors. Johann, the rich owner of a large mill, does not want the Jew, Levin, to grind corn in his small boat mill. Assuming that the law is on his side since he is German, Johann opens the lock one night and washes Levin's mill away. Levin protests and the whole matter is brought to court. Due to a lack of witnesses, the judge decides in favor of Johann. Levin resigns and leaves town with his gypsy girlfriend, Marie. But Johann's life also changes for the worse. A circus comes to the town and performs a re-enactment of Johann's attack on Levin's mill. In a carnivalesque episode, circus performers and respectable villagers join together in solidarity, overcoming national differences in moral condemnation of Johann. The circus leaves, but Johann's shame remains, and he too eventually has to leave the community.
