A German public broadcaster says a Turkish television station has ended a partnership with it over Germany's decision to officially designate the massacre of Armenians by Ottoman Turks a century ago as genocide.
German broadcaster ZDF said on June 22 that Turkey's Kanal D had pulled its German-language children's news program, citing "numerous complaints" from viewers about last month's Bundestag decision to recognize the killings of Armenians as genocide.
The German parliament's move has outraged the Turkish government, which has recalled its ambassador from Berlin.
The World War I-era mass slaughter and deportation of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks is considered by many historians and several countries as genocide.
Turkey objects, saying that Armenians died in much smaller numbers and because of civil strife rather than a planned Ottoman government effort to annihilate the Christian minority.
