Veneto,V eneto
...Wherefore art thou
Once the heartland of the
Venetian Republic, Veneto is today among the wealthiest, most developed and industrialized regions of
Italy.
Having one of the country's richest historical, natural, artistic, cultural, musical and culinary heritages, it is also one of the most visited regions of Italy and the destination for our ANNUAL PAESANO FALL
TRIP to Italy in
2013. This destination is so popular that the first trip is SOLD OUT. So we have added a second trip leaving OCTOBER 1, 2013.
Located between
Venice and the
Italian Lakes, Veneto is one of Italy's top three wine regions. We'll visit some of its wineries tucked in between such historic places as
Padua,
Mantua, and
Asolo, as well as
Sirmione and
Desenzano on the shores of beautiful
Lake Garda.
A day in the magical city of Venice is sure to enchant and amaze all. Our favorite city of all in this region is
Verona, the fabled home of the tragic lovers
Romeo and Juliet. Verona has been an important crossroads for 2,
000 years, and is also the site of an all summer opera festival in its beautiful outdoor
Roman amphitheatre. Even if we forget the famous lovers, the
Arena, the food and the vineyards, Verona is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy... with its elegant medieval and
Renaissance palaces, its fine piazzas...did we mention its shopping! We will make Verona our home for 7 nights, so there will be plenty of time to sample all that this enticing city has to offer.
The departure date for the 8-12 day trip is
October 1, 2013 (we are finalizing the details). For those who wish to spend a bit more time in Italy, there is an extension excursion to
Milan and
Lake Como. Milan is one of Italy's most fashionable cities and one of the richest cities in
Europe but it also holds several historic and artistic attractions, including the largest
Gothic cathedral in the world, the
Last Supper painting, and the famous
La Scala Opera House.
Travelers to Milan will find a fast-paced, glamorous city with a thriving cultural scene and a top city for shopping.
Lake Como has been a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since
Roman times, and a very popular tourist attraction with many artistic and cultural gems. It recently earned fame as home to
Hollywood star George Clooney. But celeb-spotting aside, it's known for jaw-dropping natural beauty, elegant old villas—and the scenic towns surrounding the lake.
