Solis Lacus (85° W, 26° S) is a dark feature on Mars. It was once called "Oculus" and is still commonly called "The Eye of Mars" because with the surrounding light area called Thaumasia it resembles the pupil of one. Solis Lacus is known for the variability of its appearance, changing its size and shape when dust storms occur. Percival Lowell believed that it was the planetary capital of Mars due to the number of canals he claimed intersected at the region.

Unidentified Turkish Official: Istanbul Airport Attackers 'Russian, Uzbek And Kyrgyz'

An unnamed Turkish official has confirmed the nationalities of the three men who carried out Tuesday’s deadly attack on Istanbul’s airport as Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals, Turkish media and officials told various media outlets.Turkey believes Islamic State militants were behind the suicide gun and bomb attack killing 43 and wounding more than 230 people – many of them airport workers, BBC News reported Thursday....

(CNN)With just 38 days to go before the Rio Olympics kicks off, the situation in the host city just went from bad to worse. A beach goer Wednesday discovered mutilated human body parts that had washed up on the shore, right in front of the Olympic Beach Volleyball Arena on Rio's famed Copacabana beach. Rosetta comet probe given termination date

The Rosetta probe will be crash-landed on Comet 67P on Friday 30 September, the European Space Agency has confirmed. The manoeuvre, which is expected to destroy the satellite, will bring to an end two years of investigations at the 4km-wide icy dirt-ball. Flight controllers plan to have the cameras taking and relaying pictures during the final descent. Sensors that "sniff" the chemical environment will also be switched on ... @BBCAmos. ....
