The Jura Mountains (French pronunciation: [ʒyʁa]) are a sub-alpine mountain range located north of the Western Alps, mainly following the course of the France–Switzerland border. The Jura separates the Rhine and Rhône basins, forming part of the watershed of each.
The name "Jura" is derived from juria, a Latinized form of a Celtic stem jor- "forest". The mountain range gives its name to the French department of Jura, the Swiss Canton of Jura, the Jurassic period of the geologic timescale, and the Montes Jura of the Moon.
The Jura Mountains are a distinct province of the larger Central European uplands.
In France, the Jura covers most of the Franche-Comté region, stretching south into the Rhône-Alpes region. The range reaches its highest point at Le Crêt de la Neige in the department of Ain and finds its southern terminus in the northwestern part of the department of Savoie. The north end of the Jura extends into the southern tip of the Alsace region. Roughly 1,600 square kilometers of the mountain range in France is protected by the Jura Mountains Regional Natural Park.
http://www.pinterest.com/barrywhitt/ This video is compiled from various photos posted on the boards of my Pinterest page. I must say I am very lucky to have been able to live and work in France as a British expatriate for over 40 years now. "Jura is one of four departments of the Franche-Comté region and is surrounded by the French departments of Doubs, Haute-Saône, Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire, and Ain, as well as the Swiss canton of Vaud on the east. The Jura mountains are wooded and rolling, not craggy and rocky like the Alps. Many lakes can be found throughout the Jura - the largest natural lake being Lac de Chalain, measuring 3 km long and 1 km wide. Lac de Vouglans was formed after the building of a hydro-electric dam. It is one of the largest man-made lakes in France." - Wikipedia ...
Haute Chaine du Jura This nature reserve is situated on the French-Swiss border at the foot of the Dole and the gorge of the Rhone. Its area covers 10 909 ha. The highest peaks of the Jura mountains are: Crêt (1718 m), Reculet (1717 m), Colomby de Gex (1688 m) and the Grand Cret d'Eau (1584 m).
A photograph slide show of the Swiss Jura mountain landscapes in the vicinity of Lake Geneva located in Western Switzerland. The Jura mountains extend along the Northern Swiss border between Geneva and Basel, and are great for hiking, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing. The area shown in the photographs is situated at and around the so-called "La Dôle" summit (alt. 1680 meters, introductory image), which is part of the protected "Parc naturel région Jura vaudois" (the Jura nature park in the Canton of Vaud). It is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the Lake Geneva region. Please consult the St. Cergue tourism office for more information at the following link: http://www.st-cergue-tourisme.ch/en/index.php Enjoy the show, and leave your comments. Greenleaf

On 31 August 2016 I flew from Montricher to the Saleve mountain east of Geneva. The easy part was the 65 km straigh-ahead leg just above the hot Jura forest. The tricky part was the transit on the Vuache ridge just under the Geneva TMA, where the altitude is severly limited due to inbound traffic to Geneva International Airport. The Vuache ridge is, however, very well oriented with hot cliffs already at noon, and provided lift as expected. The arrival at the Saleve was too early for good lift, since the westerly oriented cliffs don't heat up before mid-afternoon. I therefore gained some height in the good thermal located just above the motorway tunnel exit south of the Saleve.
The Bruno Jura Hound likes to explore new and fascinating terrains that they have never come across before. These dogs absolutely fit for those people whose interests are hiking and exercising since they will enjoy going out with their owners. Additionally, these dogs also make great friends to children and they’re not extremely aggressive when it comes to strangers. But, this depends on how well they are being handled. When training these hounds to become hunting partners, the process is very simple because they have extraordinarily brilliant hunting techniques. Having them as a hunting partner will be very beneficial for the owner since they are incredibly gentle and affectionate. Also, these dogs are even-tempered and because they are very loyal, they will defend their masters in any ki...
The Vuache ridge is located just under the glide path for landing at the Geneva International Airport from the south. The altitude for sailplanes is limited here to 3500 feet (1066 m) above sea level, whereas the highest peak of the Vuache is 3625 feet (1105 m). Fortunately the safety margin of 1000 feet (305 m) above ground (measured vertically) permits flying a bit higher just above the ridge, which makes it tight but feasible to cross from the Jura to the Alps at this location. Video recorded on 31 August 2016 from Antares 20E HB-2454. Early in the video the river Rhone is crossed, and the Fort l'Ecluse can be seen.

[jyu1 lo4] "JURA MOUNTAINS OF EASTERN FRANCE" in Cantonese (侏羅) - Flashcard. Additional information about the word: Jura mountains of eastern France and extending into Switzerland.
The Bruno Jura hound is a domestic dog, developed in the Middle Ages for hunting in the Jura Mountains on the Swiss-French border. They are found in a variety of colors and have a broad head and heavy wrinkles, which differentiate them from the other Swiss hounds. It is known for hunting fox, hare, and sometimes even small deer. The Bruno Jura Hound is a skilled scent follower and is capable of following the slightest trace of a scent over the rough terrain of the Jura mountains. It needs firm handling if kept solely for companionship. Its size is similar to that of the Schweizer Laufhund, but it differs in the broadness of its head. It is related to the Bloodhound. The life expectancy of Bruno Jura hound is 12–13 years. An adult hound can weigh anywhere from 34 to 44 pounds (15.5–20 kg) a...

Very colorful session. I show you the Jura Mountains and specifically close-ups of the Laplace Promontory. I also show you where Luna 24 landed (the last Soviet lander from 1976) and discuss the water it found on the moon. I finish the session up showing you the Doloris Mountains at the edge of the Montes Apenninus (the Alps)... BTW I misnamed Tycho - which is actually another larger crater called Vallis Snellius. Usually Tycho is the brightest crater we see but tonight it was Vallis Snellius...

Description, We talk about the Jura Mountains, the crater Gassendi and debunk the Lunar Wave.
Absinth production was legalised in Switzerland in 2005. Before this time, one had to distill in secret, like family Martin did. Today, father and son are producing Green Fairy together, while wife and daughter try delicious recipes with absinth. The Jura is the mountain range that runs as a natural boarder between France and Switzerland. This is where wormwood grows, which has been used to make absinth for the past 200 years. Francis Martin has been producing the liquor for decades, back in the day when it was forbidden. A few years ago he could officially ‘open’ his distillery, and his son Philippe is now taking over the family business. When not busy with their Swiss fondue the Martins flavour their soufflés with absinth, as well as salami and trout. What's cookin' is about tradition...
Jean-Claude Bonnot's Blog: http://www.alesiadesmandubiens.com/ Following to the release of this video, a new element was discovered to consolidate my beliefs that in light of this swastika and the original myth described here, Buddhism and the Sanskrit language did not come from the Orient, but rather from the Celtic peoples of Europe—and why not from Alésia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarim_mummies Indeed, we can see that human mummies of European type were discovered in China. What underlies the peddling of the Celtic-Aryan culture in the Far-East, where the presence of the Swastika is attested? We also noticed the name of the dynasty "Manchu," and in Chinese language "Mandarin!" We meet the radical MAND, related to the MANDUBIENS, the inhabitants of Alésia, including the name of a ci...
