Thomas Say

Thomas Say (June 27, 1787—October 10, 1834) was an American entomologist and conchologist. His definitive studies of insects and shells, numerous contributions to scientific journals, and scientific expeditions to Florida, Georgia, the Rocky Mountains, Mexico, and elsewhere made him an internationally-known naturalist. Say has been called the father of American descriptive entomology and American conchology. He served as librarian for the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, curator at the American Philosophical Society, and professor of natural history at the University of Pennsylvania.

Early life and education

Born in Philadelphia into a prominent Quaker family, Thomas Say was the great-grandson of John Bartram, and the great-nephew of William Bartram. His father, Dr. Benjamin Say, was brother-in-law to another Bartram son, Moses Bartram. The Say family had a house, "The Cliffs" at Gray's Ferry, adjoining the Bartram family farms in Kingessing township, Philadelphia County. As a boy, Say often visited the family garden, Bartram's Garden, where he frequently took butterfly and beetle specimens to his great-uncle William.

Say (Ryan Cabrera song)

"Say" is a selfwritten song by American pop singer Ryan Cabrera, produced by Daniel James, Leah Haywood for Cabrera's third studio album The Moon Under Water (2008). The track was released as the first single from the album in the first quarter of 2008. This song has won Star Shine magazine's independent song of the year.

Music video

Its accompanying music video features Cabrera performing the track and walking in the city. The video features a cameo appearance from Rob Dyrdek.

Reception

"Say" received positive responses from some critics, but the single flopped. Chuck Taylor of Billboard magazine described it as "the catchiest, coolest, most immediate release of the year."Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine referred to the song as a "near-incandescent pop tune almost worthy of Gregg Alexander."

Chart performance

In the United States, the song failed to chart on any of the Billboard charts.

Sayō, Hyōgo

Sayō (佐用町, Sayō-chō) is a town located in Sayō District, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.

As of March 31, 2008, the town has an estimated population of 20,939. The total area is 307.51 km².

On October 1, 2005 the towns of Kōzuki, Mikazuki and Nankō, all from Sayō District were merged into Sayō.

In August 2009 around a dozen people in Sayo are dead or missing as a result of flash floods, according to NHK. According to the Japan Times, 390 homes were flooded.

Pulse (app)

LinkedIn Pulse was an app for Android,iOS and HTML5 browsers, originally released in 2010. The app, in its original incarnation, was deprecated in 2015 and integrated into LinkedIn.

History

Pulse was originally released in May 2010 for the Apple iPad. The app was created by Ankit Gupta and Akshay Kothari (two Stanford University graduate students) as part of a course at the Institute of Design. The company they formed, Alphonso Labs, was one of the first to use Stanford's business incubator SSE Labs. Pulse received positive reviews for its easy to use interface.

On 8 June 2010, the app was temporarily removed from the App Store hours after it was mentioned by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at WWDC 2010, because The New York Times complained to Apple about the app pulling content from their feed, even though that feed was in use by other apps in the App Store. The app was approved once again and restored to the App Store later the same day after removing the The New York Times feed.

Pulse (physics)

In physics, a pulse is a single disturbance that moves through a medium from one point to the next point.

Pulse Reflection

Consider a pulse moving through a medium - perhaps through a rope or a slinky. When the pulse reaches the end of that medium, what happens to it depends on whether the medium is fixed in space or free to move at its end. For example, if the pulse is moving through a rope and the end of the rope is held firmly by a person, then it is said that the pulse is approaching a fixed end. On the other hand, if the end of the rope is fixed to a stick such that it is free to move up or down along the stick when the pulse reaches its end, then it is said that the pulse is approaching a free end.

Free End

A pulse will reflect off a free end and return with the same direction of displacement that it had before reflection. That is, a pulse with an upward displacement will reflect off the end and return with an upward displacement.

This is illustrated by figures 1 and 2 that were obtained by the numerical integration of the wave equation.

Megumi Hayashibara

Megumi Hayashibara (林原 めぐみ, Hayashibara Megumi, born March 30, 1967) is a Japanese voice actress, singer, radio personality, and lyricist from Tokyo. She is affiliated with Woodpark Office. She is best known for her roles in Love Hina, Saber Marionette J, Ranma ½, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Slayers, Detective Conan, Pokémon, All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku, Video Girl Ai, and Shaman King.

Biography

Megumi Hayashibara was born on March 30, 1967 in Tokyo, Japan. She studied at a Catholic school, and at one point was bullied in fifth grade. She was an active club member and participated in the Badminton, Biology, Broadcasting, Drama, and English clubs. She played the role of Alice in an English language production of Alice in Wonderland. Despite qualifying as a nurse, she has never been employed in a nursing position.

On March 30, 1998, she married. On January 10, 2004, she announced on her radio show that she was pregnant with her first child. On June 28 of the same year, she gave birth to her daughter.

Prayers (rock duo)

Prayers is an electronic rock duo founded in 2013 by Rafael Reyes and Dave Parley. Prayers are the first musicians/artists use the term Cholo goth to define their genre of music which lyrically explores the harsh realities of gang and street life over throbbing beats and swirling synthesizers.

Prayers is influenced by Christian Death, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Pet Shop Boys and other Gothic rock and dark 80s music, as well as by Reyes' life as gang member in the Sherman Grant Hill Park 27 gang, one of San Diego's oldest gangs, also known as Sherman 27. He was jumped into the gang as a teenager. Prayers' music, lyrics and image breaks down stereotypes within the Goth and Cholo subcultures.

Prior to forming Prayers, Reyes, who was born Cotija, Michoacán and came San Diego as young child, had created two other bands, Baptism of Thieves and Vampire, and performed in a solo project, Nite Ritual. Reyes and Parley, a Tijuana native, began recording immediately upon meeting. In three days they had recorded their first CD, SD KILLWAVE which they released independently on first as a CD and download and then on vinyl.
