The July 1,
2000, noon
Confederate battle flag "
Transfer Ceremony" — when the
Confederate flag was lowered from the
S.C. State House capitol dome. At the same time a Confederate flag was raised on a flagpole located on the lawn in front of the capitol building.
More than 20,
000 (plus) people gathered to witness the transfer of the
Confederate States of America's battle flag of
Northern Virginia at the S.C. State House. The flag was first used in 1861 — and was "not" the national flag of the
CSA; nor is it the "stars and bars" — a perpetuated misconception.
During this event Confederate flag defenders yelled racist epithets at anti-Confederate flag activists — who blew whistles and held yellow signs with the word "
Shame" printed on them.
* UNEDITED SEGMENT:
Tension in the crowd became hostile, volatile and unnerving requiring the S.C.
State Troopers to call for backup along with the (cold) deployment of the a
SWAT team.
The racist pronouncements are unambiguous and have not been edited out. They are coherent and clearly articulated.
Steadfast convictions are exposed that define the meaning of "heritage" associated with that Confederate battle flag.
