This song is about the clash of the Allied convoy ONS-92 and the wolf pack "Hecht" (pike) of the German Kriegsmarine on May 12th 1942, when 7 ships of the convoy were sunken in the North Atlantic. "Gleaves" and "Ingham" are the names of 2 American warships. The British rescue ship "Bury" was equipped with the new HF/DF-technology whose inadequate use in part explained the disaster.

Patterson to the those involved in the production of tanks and to the men and women of automotive industries to show them the combat performance of the vehicles they have built. What it took to get a mechanized convoy through in the North African campaign serves as an illustration. The film portrays an American truck convoy ambushed by German tanks and rescued by group of United States medium tanks. Compares the mechanized strengths of the Axis powers versus those of the United States.

Once again volunteers from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, acting as Operation Sabre UK, transfer some out of service fire trucks to fire departments in Romania, where they will be used in the future and replace older units. On their way they always pass the city of Regensburg in the Free State of Bavaria, German. Either they steay for the night or just make a short afternoon stop before they proceed towards Austria

An interview with Bob Cowan, 93, from Chorlton Manchester. He describes what it was like to be in the Arctic Convoys and to have been rescued from the water after being on a ship (HMS Mashona) that was sunk. He also describes his experiences on the Malta convoys. Bob went on to serve in the Pacific campaign, to have been present at the surrender of Japan and to have walked through Hiroshima shortly after the Atomic Bomb.
The campaign to have the Arctic Convoy veterans contribution to the defence of this country in WWs is described in a clip from his interview with Granada TV in October 2013. This campaign which was supported and promoted by Bob's friends at Chorlton Good Neighbours, was successful when the Prime Minister in PM Questions Time in December 2013, announced the awarding of an Arctic Convoy medal for the remaining veterans

Well, here it is. In yet another confounding contradiction of Posse Comitatus, I pick up where the last military patrol left off. In this video, we first try to fly the C17 cargo plane over the biker camp WITH the Humvee in it, like I tried to do a while back in an another military patrol, except with the Titan plane. This time it works, except once it's time to go wheels up, I can't get in the Humvee. We have to do it the old-fashioned way on the ground, in a convoy. The squad pulls up to the outskirts of the biker gang camp/illegal drug HQ, and then I go search for evidence at sea in a boat with a dive team. When we get there, I figure out that the drug evidence is actually ON a cargo ship, not in the water near it, so we have to go on the boat. A skirmish ensues, we photograph the evidence, and have to jump off the boat when an armed enemy Buzzard shows up. I drive the boat to the water across from the gang camp, and we kick things off. The Humvee(s) roll in, and when it gets heated, I call in the AC130. Enjoy!

Why didn't they stop for the man who fell overboard?
Several reasons: (1) They were in a convoy going 10-12 knots. It would be absurd for a convoy, with anywhere from 10-50 ships, surrounded by 3-8 destroyers to stop in mid-ocean and mill around trying to find one man. Not only was a convoy required to stay on schedule; but stopping would put the whole convoy at risk for air and submarine attack. (2) Accordingly, standard naval procedure was for a transport that lost a man overboard to hoist a flag (or send message via other means) indicating man overboard. The last ships in the convoy and the trailing destroyers would then try to locate him and pick him up. In fact, usually one merchant ship or destroyer at the tail end of the convoy was given the task of trying to pick up any man overboard. (3) In real life, both Navy and Marine NCOs and Officers would have ordered the men not to hang off the rigging and put any violators on report. (4) The chances of surviving after falling off a ship in convoy were small despite the best of efforts. The ocean is big and one man insignificant. Pilots who ditched next to destroyers or carriers were often never found, despite men seeing them get out of their planes OK. According to the book "The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945" by John Toland, the man was in fact picked up by a following support ship.

Convoy rescue ship
During the Second World War designated convoy rescue ships accompanied some Atlantic convoys to rescue survivors from ships that had been attacked. Rescue ships were typically small freighters with passenger accommodations converted to rescue service. This involved enlarging galley and food storage areas and providing berthing and sanitary facilities for approximately 150 men. Preparation for service included the installation of scrambling nets along the sides, and the substitution of boats suitable for open sea work for normal lifeboats. Rescue ships normally included a small operating room for an embarked naval doctor and sick bay staff.
Service
The first specially-equipped rescue ship went into service in January 1941. When rescue ships were unavailable, large, ocean-going tugboats or converted trawlers were sometimes designated to perform rescue duty.
By the end of the war 30 rescue ships had been built or converted. They participated in 797 convoys and rescued 4,194 survivors from 119 ships. Six rescue ships were lost, five to enemy action (three to U-boats and two to aircraft).

In this video, we first try to fly the C17 cargo plane over the biker camp WITH the Humvee in it, like I tried to do a while back in an another military patrol, except with the Titan plane. This time it works, except once it's time to go wheels up, I can't get in the Humvee. We have to do it the old-fashioned way on the ground, in a convoy. The squad pulls up to the outskirts of the biker gang camp/illegal drug HQ, and then I go search for evidence at sea in a boat with a dive team. It would be absurd for a convoy, with anywhere from 10-50 ships, surrounded by 3-8 destroyers to stop in mid-ocean and mill around trying to find one man. We bring you the first attempt of this in this World War 2 scenario that Cody has made. We are the German forces and we need to escort a convoy out of Belgium. Somewhere along the way, enemies prepared an ambush for us. Will we reach our destination?

Commemorations at Albany, Western Australia, for 100th Anniversary of the sailing of the first convoy of ships from Australia and New Zealand for the First World War on 1st November, 1914. Commemorations included a Troop March up and down York Street, Albany by Current and Returned Servicemen, and a symbolic re-enactment of the sailing of the 1st Convoy by warships of the Australian, New Zealand and Japanese Navies sailing line astern into King George Sound. The Convoy headed to Egypt carrying troops and supplies and many of the troops then went on to Gallipoli and later France. Albany was the last port of call in Australia and the last many ever saw of their homeland. Flier reached Pearl Harbor from New London, Connecticut, on 20 December 1943, and prepared for her first war patrol, sailing 12 January 1944.[5] However, the submarine ran aground near Midway Island on 16 January. Macaw, a Chanticleer-class submarine rescue ship, attempted to pull Flier free but ran aground herself and sank. Flier was eventually saved by Florikan and towed to first Pearl Harbor and then the Mare Island Navy Yard for repairs.[6] On 21 May she sailed again for action, heading for a patrol area west of Luzon. She made her first contact on 4 June, attacking a well-escorted convoy of five merchantmen.[5] Firing three torpedoes at each of two ships, she sent the transport Hakusan Maru to the bottom and scored a hit on another ship, before clearing the area to evade countermeasures.
On 13 June 1944, Flier attacked a convoy of 11 ships, cargo carriers and tankers, guarded by at least six escorts. The alert behavior of the escorts during the attack resulted in a severe counterattack on Flier before she could observe what damage she had done to the convoy. On 22 June, she began a long chase after another large convoy, scoring four hits for six torpedoes fired at two cargo ships that day, and three hits for four torpedoes launched against another cargo ship of the same convoy the next day.
Flier put in to Fremantle, Australia, to refit between 5 July and 2 August 1944, then sailed on her second war patrol, bound for the coast of Indochina via the Lombok Strait, Macassar Strait and Balabac Strait. At about 2200 on 12 August, while transiting Balabac Strait on the surface, she struck a naval mine. She sank in about a minute, but 13 officers and men were able to clamber out. Eight of them reached the beach of Mantangula Island after 15 hours in the water. Friendly natives guided them to a coast-watcher, who arranged for them to be picked up by submarine, and on the night of 30--31 August, they were taken on board by Redfin.[5]
Flier received one battle star for World War II service on her single war patrol, designated "successful." She is credited with having sunk 10,380 tons of Japanese shipping. See also List of U.S. Navy losses in World War II.

HMS Curacoa, named after the island Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea, was a Ceres group C-class light cruiser. In 1942, she became one of the Royal Navy's major accidental losses during the Second World War.
► Collision
On 2 October 1942 about 60 km north of the coast of Ireland she was escorting the ocean liner RMS " Queen Mary " carrying 20,000 American troops of the 29th Infantry Division to join the Allied forces in Europe.
" Queen Mary " was steaming an evasive zig-zagging course. At 2:15 PM the " Queen Mary " started the starboard turn for the first leg of her zig-zag, cutting across the path of the " Curacoa " with insufficient clearance, striking her amidships at a speed of 28 knots and cutting her in two. The " Curacoa " sank in six minutes, about 100 yards from the " Queen Mary ". Acting under orders not to stop due to the risk of U-boat attacks, the " Queen Mary " did not assist in rescue operations and instead steamed onward with a damaged bow. Hours later, the convoy's lead escort, consisting of HMS " Bramham " and one other ship, returned to rescue 99 survivors from the Curacoa's crew of 338, including her captain, John Wilfred Boutwood. According to the HMS " Curacoa Roll of Honour ", 102 men were rescued from the " Curacoa ", 338 were lost. A number of graves of men of the Curacoa can be found at Lower Breakish in Skye, Arisaig and Morar.

On 9th November HMAS Sydney was dispatched from the Convoy to the Cocos Islands in response to a SOS radio call and engaged and sank the German raider SMS Emden. This was the first naval engagement of a ship of the fledgling Royal Australian Navy.
Video recorded on Canon 5D MkII, for the warship sequences using a Canon 100-400mm Telephoto Lens and monopod viewed from Mt Adelaide.
Apologise for the shakiness and wind noise. It was a bright sunny day with a strong wind blowing and it was difficult to see the images on the monitor screen.
