The Jewellery Quarter is an area of Birmingham, England. Situated in the south of the Hockley area of the city centre, there is a population of around 3,000 people in a 1.07-square-kilometre (264-acre) area.
The Jewellery Quarter is Europe's largest concentration of businesses involved in the jewellery trade, which produces 40% of all the jewellery made in the UK. It is also home to the world's largest Assay Office, which hallmarks around 12 million items a year. Historically the Jewellery Quarter has been the birthplace of many pioneering advancements in industrial technology.
At its peak in the early 1900s the Jewellery Quarter employed over 30,000 people, however due to foreign competition and lack of demand, the industry declined throughout the 20th century. The area is now being transformed into an urban village and hub for creative businesses, whilst maintaining its urban fabric. Its historical importance has led to numerous conservation schemes and it is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
Hatton Garden is a street and area in the district of Holborn in the London Borough of Camden. It is most famous for being London's jewellery quarter and centre of the UK diamond trade, but the area is also now home to a diverse range of media and creative businesses.
The name 'Hatton Garden' is derived from the garden of the London residence of the Bishop of Ely called Ely Place, which was given to Sir Christopher Hatton by Elizabeth I in 1581, during a vacancy of the see.
The area surrounding Hatton Garden has been the centre of London's jewellery trade since medieval times. The old City of London had certain streets, or quarters, dedicated to types of business, and the area around Hatton Garden became a centre for jewellers and jewellery.
Nearly 300 of the businesses in Hatton Garden are in the jewellery industry and over 55 shops represent the largest cluster of jewellery retailers in the UK. The largest of these companies is De Beers, the international family of companies that dominate the international diamond trade. De Beers has its headquarters in a complex of offices and warehouses just behind the main Hatton Garden shopping street. The area also plays host to a large number of media, publishing and creative businesses, including Blinkbox, Cyber-Duck and Grey Advertising.
Jewellery or jewelry (/ˈdʒuːᵊlᵊri/) consists of small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Jewellery may be attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers for example. For many centuries metal, often combined with gemstones, has been the normal material for jewellery, but other materials such as shells and other plant materials may be used. It is one of the oldest type of archaeological artefact – with 100,000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells thought to be the oldest known jewellery. The basic forms of jewellery vary between cultures but are often extremely long-lived; in European cultures the most common forms of jewellery listed above have persisted since ancient times, while other forms such as adornments for the nose or ankle, important in other cultures, are much less common. Historically, the most widespread influence on jewellery in terms of design and style have come from Asia.

We're issuing CCTV footage from a fight at a railway station in Birmingham to help identify two men we'd like to speak to about the incident. A man - who ended up on the tracks - was taken to hospital with a head injury following the altercation, which happened at the Jewellery Quarter station. He was waiting with a friend on platform one when they were approached by a group of four men. Two of the men in the group began to argue with the friends, resulting in punches being thrown and the man falling onto the line. The two men are then believed to have boarded a service to Wolverhampton. The injured man was knocked unconscious and his friend was also hurt during the incident, which happened just before 11pm on 11 June. Such violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we are determine...
An excellent talk from the Birmingham Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, 75-80 Vyse Street, Hockley, Birmingham, B18 6HA. This part of the tour talk was shot in the Jeweller's Workshop. This was the 12:00 talk, and was excellent from start to finish. First impressions of visiting the place were rather tainted by the lady at the admission / information desk who had obviously got out of bed the wrong side, but this sillyness notwithstanding I was happy to have stayed around long enough to get just a small flavour of this vital part of Birmingham's heritage. The chap featured in this talk was superb, and the practical demonstrations given brought the Smith & Pepper company back to life (if only for a few moments, and in a health and safety friendly way). We took great care to choose the right shots and create a quirky, atmospheric place to live, with all the modern conveniences. Filmed on Canon DSLR 60d.

I recently stayed at The Copthorne Hotel, just outside of Birmingham City Centre's Paradise Forum and close to the Jewellery Quarter. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was comfortable, although for such a high profile hotel in the City it was a little dated in terms of decor. It needs modernising, and the rooms need to have air conditioning, at present they have rotating fans. With that said I did enjoy my stay here, although for the price may explore other options in future. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. This review includes external shots of the hotel, a detailed bedroom review, the lift, reception area, bar, restaurant and breakfast buffet.

Travel video about destination Singapore. Singapore is a city of gardens and the heart of South East Asia. Its history began in 1819 with Thomas Stamford Raffles, a young official who worked for the British East India Company. Raffles estimated that the natural harbor was perfect for trading ships, so he bought the land from the Sultan of Johor and founded a trading settlement. As a free port, Singapore attracted trading ships from all over the world and today, 4 million people live here on an area that covers 640 square kilometres. In June each year, there is an exciting boat race in Marina Bay known as the Dragon Boat Race, that features magnificently painted dragon boats with hand-carved heads and tails accompanied by the sound of frenetic drumbeats. Not much silverware is seen on dining tables nowadays, but in the past it was extremely popular -- particularly during the Edwardian era. This film follows each step in the production of a typical product - a Chippendale-pattern candlestick, first produced in 1914. It was largely filmed on site at the former J.W. At first glance, the Birmingham in Streets of Myth looks a lot like ours. The buildings look about right. The clothes are the same. ' ▸▸ http://j.mp/28YLjbl ▸▸ The kids listen to hip-hop and hard rock. Birmingham's neighbourhoods are roughly the same too: Aston, Digbeth, Nechells, The Jewellery Quarter & more. But instead of a city, they are a loose collection of gangs and petty rivalries, tied together and policed by the weakened and corrupt forces of The Crown. These gangs aren't quite like our gangs though. They don't have guns. They have swords, spears and the ancient martial traditions of the Far East. Each neighbourhood has their own power structure, their own laws and their own fighting style. '(Next Video) Porno & Liberta (Documentary-2O15) ' ▸▸ http://bit.ly/1O0zUsW ▸▸ -Porno & li...

Sometimes the skills I lack are just the things that
hold me back but
That's the type of things that make me laugh the most,
Can't we just carry on cause I got the jist of holding
on to you, try holding onto me.
And I made my bed today with the hope that you might
jump right in it,
Though I don't with a lot I say, when I said I liked
you I really meant it.
And although all the perfume that you wear has a
tendency to make me feel slightly ill
The fact its on my pillow still, is an encouraging
sign.
I will quickstep over the rooftops to get to your
house,
It's my heart that you're stealing and that sounds
appealing to me now.
I will quickstep over the rooftops to get to your
house,
It's my heart that you're stealing and that sounds
appealing to me now.
And no I'm not prepared to sit through all the icy
stares cause,
That's thee type of looks that get to me the most,
Can't we just get along cause I've got the jist of
holding on for you, try holding on for me.
And I'm even toying with the idea this could be
forever,
I suppose all that depends on you if it's something you
endeavour.
And these feelings spill out randomly
I have a tendency to run away with myself,
Can't think of nothing else, but making you mine.
I will quickstep over the rooftops to get to your
house,
It's my heart that you're stealing and that sounds
appealing to me now.
I will quickstep over the rooftops to get to your
house,
It's my heart that you're stealing and that sounds
appealing to me now.
I still want you, nothing's changed after all this time
I still want you, nothing's changed after all this time
I still need you, nothing's changed after all this time
I still need you, nothing's changed after all this time
I will quickstep over the rooftops to get to your
house,
It's my heart that you're stealing and that sounds
appealing to me now.
