Hatton Garden London's Jewellery Quarter and UK Diamond Centre
The area around Hatton Garden, has been the centre of Londons jewellery trade since way back in the mists of medieval time.
History tells us that the old City of London had certain streets, or quarters, dedicated to specific types of business, and the area around Hatton Garden has since developed its international reputation as one of the worlds finest and renowned centre for jewellers and jewellery.

We're issuing CCTV footage from a fight at a railway station in Birmingham to help identify two men we'd like to speak to about the incident.
A man - who ended up on the tracks - was taken to hospital with a head injury following the altercation, which happened at the Jewellery Quarter station.
He was waiting with a friend on platform one when they were approached by a group of four men.
Two of the men in the group began to argue with the friends, resulting in punches being thrown and the man falling onto the line.
The two men are then believed to have boarded a service to Wolverhampton.
The injured man was knocked unconscious and his friend was also hurt during the incident, which happened just before 11pm on 11 June.
Such violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we are determined to identify all those involved.
We believe two men in the footage - one in a long-sleeved red shirt and the other in a checked shirt may have more information about what happened, and we'd appeal to anyone who knows their identity to contact us.

An excellent talk from the Birmingham Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, 75-80 Vyse Street, Hockley, Birmingham, B18 6HA. This part of the tour talk was shot in the Jeweller's Workshop. This was the 12:00 talk, and was excellent from start to finish.
First impressions of visiting the place were rather tainted by the lady at the admission / information desk who had obviously got out of bed the wrong side, but this sillyness notwithstanding I was happy to have stayed around long enough to get just a small flavour of this vital part of Birmingham's heritage.
The chap featured in this talk was superb, and the practical demonstrations given brought the Smith & Pepper company back to life (if only for a few moments, and in a health and safety friendly way).

This museum is a worthwhile place for anyone interested in British industrial history to visit. Make sure you book a tour upon admission though, as you will be unable to visit the workshop unless you are part of a group.

Jewellery Quarter

The Jewellery Quarter is an area of Birmingham, England. Situated in the south of the Hockley area of the city centre, there is a population of around 3,000 people in a 1.07-square-kilometre (264-acre) area.
The Jewellery Quarter is Europe's largest concentration of businesses involved in the jewellery trade, which produces 40% of all the jewellery made in the UK. It is also home to the world's largest Assay Office, which hallmarks around 12 million items a year. Historically the Jewellery Quarter has been the birthplace of many pioneering advancements in industrial technology.
At its peak in the early 1900s the Jewellery Quarter employed over 30,000 people, however due to foreign competition and lack of demand, the industry declined throughout the 20th century. The area is now being transformed into an urban village and hub for creative businesses, whilst maintaining its urban fabric. Its historical importance has led to numerous conservation schemes and it is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Hatton Garden
Hatton Garden is a street and area in the district of Holborn in the London Borough of Camden. It is most famous for being London's jewellery quarter and centre of the UK diamond trade, but the area is also now home to a diverse range of media and creative businesses.
The name 'Hatton Garden' is derived from the garden of the London residence of the Bishop of Ely called Ely Place, which was given to Sir Christopher Hatton by Elizabeth I in 1581, during a vacancy of the see.
The area surrounding Hatton Garden has been the centre of London's jewellery trade since medieval times. The old City of London had certain streets, or quarters, dedicated to types of business, and the area around Hatton Garden became a centre for jewellers and jewellery.
Nearly 300 of the businesses in Hatton Garden are in the jewellery industry and over 55 shops represent the largest cluster of jewellery retailers in the UK. The largest of these companies is De Beers, the international family of companies that dominate the international diamond trade. De Beers has its headquarters in a complex of offices and warehouses just behind the main Hatton Garden shopping street. The area also plays host to a large number of media, publishing and creative businesses, including Blinkbox, Cyber-Duck and Grey Advertising.

Jewellery
Jewellery or jewelry (/ˈdʒuːᵊlᵊri/) consists of small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Jewellery may be attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers for example. For many centuries metal, often combined with gemstones, has been the normal material for jewellery, but other materials such as shells and other plant materials may be used. It is one of the oldest type of archaeological artefact – with 100,000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells thought to be the oldest known jewellery. The basic forms of jewellery vary between cultures but are often extremely long-lived; in European cultures the most common forms of jewellery listed above have persisted since ancient times, while other forms such as adornments for the nose or ankle, important in other cultures, are much less common. Historically, the most widespread influence on jewellery in terms of design and style have come from Asia.

We're issuing CCTV footage from a fight at a railway station in Birmingham to help identify two men we'd like to speak to about the incident.
A man - who ended up on the tracks - was taken to hospital with a head injury following the altercation, which happened at the Jewellery Quarter station.
He was waiting with a friend on platform one when they were approached by a group of four men.
Two of the men in the group began to argue with the friends, resulting in punches being thrown and the man falling onto the line.
The two men are then believed to have boarded a service to Wolverhampton.
The injured man was knocked unconscious and his friend was also hurt during the incident, which happened just before 11pm on 11 June.
Such violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we are determined to identify all those involved.
We believe two men in the footage - one in a long-sleeved red shirt and the other in a checked shirt may have more information about what happened, and we'd appeal to anyone who knows their identity to contact us.
Anyone with info can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text us on 61016 ref 611 of 11/06/16.
Alternatively, details can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

An excellent talk from the Birmingham Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, 75-80 Vyse Street, Hockley, Birmingham, B18 6HA. This part of the tour talk was shot in the Jeweller's Workshop. This was the 12:00 talk, and was excellent from start to finish.
First impressions of visiting the place were rather tainted by the lady at the admission / information desk who had obviously got out of bed the wrong side, but this sillyness notwithstanding I was happy to have stayed around long enough to get just a small flavour of this vital part of Birmingham's heritage.
The chap featured in this talk was superb, and the practical demonstrations given brought the Smith & Pepper company back to life (if only for a few moments, and in a health and safety friendly way).

This museum is a worthwhile place for anyone interested in British industrial history to visit. Make sure you book a tour upon admission though, as you will be unable to visit the workshop unless you are part of a group.

Review: The Copthorne Hotel, Birmingham, England - July 2014
I recently stayed at The Copthorne Hotel, just outside of Birmingham City Centre's Paradise Forum and close to the Jewellery Quarter. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was comfortable, although for such a high profile hotel in the City it was a little dated in terms of decor. It needs modernising, and the rooms need to have air conditioning, at present they have rotating fans. With that said I did enjoy my stay here, although for the price may explore other options in future. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. This review includes external shots of the hotel, a detailed bedroom review, the lift, reception area, bar, restaurant and breakfast buffet.

Alcudia (Puerto Alcudia) is one the most popular resorts in Majorca located on the north east corner of Majorca in Spain. Alcudia is located about 59 km. from the capital city Palma de Mallorca.
Puerto Alcudia (Port d’Alcudia) is the port, beach, tourist and accommodation area of Alcudia town and it is located about 1,8 km. from the old town of Alcudia.
Alcudia, with its port area, has a population of ten thousand, which in summer swells to ten times that figure. A superb stretch of beach and good hotel facilities account for this growing summer influx.
Alcudia´s historic city centre
The centre of Alcudia still preserves the character of a historic town, having said that the name Alcudia derives from the former Muslim Al Kudi, and although the first settlements date back to the Pretalaiotic period (2.000 - 1200 BC) the city was founded in 1325 by King Jaume II on the site of the mentioned islamic farmstead. A highlight of its history was the prosperous ancient Roman city of Pol-lentia (123 BC), situated only a few metres from the old town, which is indeed worth a visit. Today´s city preserves the medieval street layout, define by its wll enclosure. The streets house numerous buildings of high architectual value are narrow ans irregular-a testimony of the city´s history.
The small alleys all over the old town is the best attraction of Alcudia. Most of them are peaceful and will give you great photo opportunities although some of them are very narrow and there will be always someone coming the other way :)

The old town of Alcudia used to have 3 different gates and hopefully you can still see 2 of them.
Coming from Palma we parked the car outside and walked inside the walled city through the main gate (puerta Principal). The massive towers gives you a picture of how this old town was anyway centuries before when during the 14th century when King Jaume II founded the new town of Alcucia.
Xara Gate(or Portal de Moll) is on the south side, probably a bit more photogenic as it is cut off from the walls with two palm trees in front of the gate. We saw this gate (the old harbour gate) in many postcards as it is some kind of symbol for Alcudia.
There is a market in front of Xara gate (at plaza Carlos V) on Tuesday and Sunday mornings (9.00am to 15.00) although during summer months it may also go inside the city walls too. The main part of the market is focusing on products by local farmers but also plenty of shoes, clothing, handbags and souvenirs.
You can walk around the city walls and actually see parts of the wall along the way as the can be followed on the inside along ronda muralla or outside.

Every Tuesday and Sunday morning there is a market. It is situated beside the city walls, but during the tourist season, it is also inside the walls, in some of the narrow streets. It starts about 9.00 am and carries on usually until 2.00 pm or even later.
You will find 2 sections, the main one dedicated to the local farmers where they sell their products.
The second section has plenty of stalls where they sell absolutely everything: shoes, bags, handbags, football shirts, souvernirs…
The things to buy on the market include locally produced fruit and vegetables, shoes, handbags, jewellery, clothing and souvenirs.

Puerto Alcudia (Port d’Alcudia) is the port, beach, tourist and accommodation area of Alcudia town and it is located about 1,8 km. from the old town of Alcudia.
Alcudia, with its port area, has a population of ten thousand, which in summer swells to ten times that figure. A superb stretch of beach and good hotel facilities account for this growing summer influx.
Alcudia´s historic city centre
The centre of Alcudia still preserves the character of a historic town, having said that the name Alcudia derives from the former Muslim Al Kudi, and although the first settlements date back to the Pretalaiotic period (2.000 - 1200 BC) the city was founded in 1325 by King Jaume II on the site of the mentioned islamic farmstead. A highlight of its history was the prosperous ancient Roman city of Pol-lentia (123 BC), situated only a few metres from the old town, which is indeed worth a visit. Today´s city preserves the medieval street layout, define by its wll enclosure. The streets house numerous buildings of high architectual value are narrow ans irregular-a testimony of the city´s history.
The small alleys all over the old town is the best attraction of Alcudia. Most of them are peaceful and will give you great photo opportunities although some of them are very narrow and there will be always someone coming the other way :)

The old town of Alcudia used to have 3 different gates and hopefully you can still see 2 of them.
Coming from Palma we parked the car outside and walked inside the walled city through the main gate (puerta Principal). The massive towers gives you a picture of how this old town was anyway centuries before when during the 14th century when King Jaume II founded the new town of Alcucia.
Xara Gate(or Portal de Moll) is on the south side, probably a bit more photogenic as it is cut off from the walls with two palm trees in front of the gate. We saw this gate (the old harbour gate) in many postcards as it is some kind of symbol for Alcudia.
There is a market in front of Xara gate (at plaza Carlos V) on Tuesday and Sunday mornings (9.00am to 15.00) although during summer months it may also go inside the city walls too. The main part of the market is focusing on products by local farmers but also plenty of shoes, clothing, handbags and souvenirs.
You can walk around the city walls and actually see parts of the wall along the way as the can be followed on the inside along ronda muralla or outside.

Every Tuesday and Sunday morning there is a market. It is situated beside the city walls, but during the tourist season, it is also inside the walls, in some of the narrow streets. It starts about 9.00 am and carries on usually until 2.00 pm or even later.
You will find 2 sections, the main one dedicated to the local farmers where they sell their products.
The second section has plenty of stalls where they sell absolutely everything: shoes, bags, handbags, football shirts, souvernirs…
The things to buy on the market include locally produced fruit and vegetables, shoes, handbags, jewellery, clothing and souvenirs.

I recently stayed at The Copthorne Hotel, just outside of Birmingham City Centre's Paradise Forum and close to the Jewellery Quarter. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was comfortable, although for such a high profile hotel in the City it was a little dated in terms of decor. It needs modernising, and the rooms need to have air conditioning, at present they have rotating fans. With that said I did enjoy my stay here, although for the price may explore other options in future. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive.

She deposits it to Rohit, which he safely locks in his safe.
Since Rohit feels it’s not safe for her to wait at the platform he offers to drop her at his quarters, near by and she readily agrees to it.
It’s so obvious that she’s running away from someone and Rohit feels she must have stolen the jewellery but she denies the accusation. She tells him that she inherited them from her mother but there are goons behind her because of it. And she’s escaping from them. He buys the story and assured that she’s safe and comfortable there, he goes back to the station.
Sitting on his chair in his office, he goes back in time and lives in flashback for a while thinking about how he first came across Rashmi (Zeenat Aman).
He’s riding a motorcycle on his way to his uncle’s (Asit Sen) house for his cousin’s wedding. On the road he sees a car ahead of him and they have a race. After a while, Rashmi’s car runs out of petrol. Attempting to help her and also not wanting to lose an opportunity of spending some time with a lovely dame, he empties all the petrol from his motorcycle into Rahmi’s car and decides to travel along in her car. But before he can get in, she drives off. With no petrol, he gets stuck and finally manages to get a lift in a lorry. They meet a couple of times during his stay there and they fall in love.
Her father, Diwan Sardarilal (Hari Shivdasani), is looking for an assistant for Moti Babu (Prem Chopra), her brother-in-law, who has been looking after the business now. And Diwan feels Moti Babu is over-burdened with work and responsibilities. Rashmi presents Rohit to Diwan and he agrees to hire him. Rashmi has a hunch that Moti Babu is not as honest as he appears to be and tells Rohit about it. Rohit immediately begins auditing the records and discovers that the entries are not correct and a huge sum of money has been missing.
