Two bikers ride from Mekhri circle,
Bangalore to
Yercaud, a hill station in the state of
Tamil Nadu.
Pristine and mostly untouched by tourism, unlike crowded
Ooty, Yercaud makes for a pleasant day outing, from Bangalore. The roads are currently in great shape, the moment you cross into Tamil Nadu via
Hosur.
The first break can be taken at
Shoolagiri or
Krishnagiri with plenty of eateries on the route as well as fuel stations
. Once we cross Dharmapuri, the road gets a bit more exciting, with long curves and a bit of ghats section before you reach the
Salem toll gate. Where one can take another break for snacks or tea if required.
Once you enter or bypass Salem, Yercaud is approximately 32kms from the base. Filled with a lot of S curves and hairpins, the journey is going to excite the driver or rider in you. Also, as you move upwards, the
Steel city of Salem is seen clearly.
The weather gets colder even during midday, as in the video.
The moment one enters Yercaud, you are greeted with a breathtaking view of the lake, where one can enjoy recreational activities like boating etc. There is a route to a waterfalls as well, which has been skipped in the video owing to the length. One has to park the vehicle and walk for a kilometer or so, to reach the falls.
Lunch can be had at the plethora of eateries along the lake side or a bit towards the interior
. In the video, the riders have visited the
Sweet Rascal cafe, which has a european side to its cooking. The place also had lot of pets, for kids to have fun with and pass the time.
Once lunch is over, the riders can now attempt the best stretch of corners called the Yercaud loop.
A 30 km long stretch of S curves that goes in a loop out from and back to Yercaud. With hardly any traffic, its safe for bikers to enjoy the corners without risking theirs or other road users lives.
After coming back to Yercaud, one can have some snacks and start back towards Salem. If riding, it is preferable to cross Salem and
Dharmapuri as long as there is daylight, to reduce risk. In a car, however, its an easy journey back to Bangalore all the way.
