Jahleel Hoskins' mother yelled at the defendant's cousin to shut up as Redford banged his gavel, demanding order.
January 6, 2014 Grand Rapids, Michigan (WOOD/MLive) -- The tragic drama surrounding the murder of Latrice Maze, a mother of five, only intensified Monday when the man convicted of killing her violently erupted in the courtroom upon learning his sentence.
Jahleel Hoskins did offer a weeping apology to the family of the woman he killed last March. He talked of how the victim's body was disposed of in a trash dumpster, yet told her family and the judge that he loved Maze and her murder was unintentional.
But when Hoskins was handed a 50-to-100-year prison term, the handcuffed man threw the podium toward the bench of Kent County Circuit Court Judge James Robert Redford and lumbered forward until court deputies dragged him from the courtroom with his eyes bugging out in fury.
Even as the 26-year-old was being muscled out of the courtroom, the family of Hoskins began screaming at the family of the victim, which included the victim's mother and father, who made emotional statements to the court earlier.
While one especially vocal woman who described herself as a cousin of Hoskins yelled at the victim's family, Maze supporters began to react loudly as well, The two groups surged toward each other as additional court deputies began to enter the courtroom to separate the groups.
Hoskins' distraught mother yelled at the defendant's cousin to shut up as Redford banged his gavel, demanding order.
The events of the sentencing followed by a few weeks the equally dramatic, if less violent, actions of Hoskins who halted his trial on Dec. 11 by pleading to second-degree murder in the midst of testimony.
But Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Kellee Koncki told the judge that his confession should not result in any benefit for Hoskins and called on the judge to craft a sentence that would guarantee a virtual lifetime behind bars.
Hoskins killed Maze at her apartment at 47 Burton St. SW and then placed her body in a dumpster outside a Wyoming apartment complex.
Koncki argued that Hoskins killed Maze because she was going to talk to police about an assault by Hoskins against the father of two of Maze's children.
"After you killed her, you had a party in her house," Rose said. "What kind of person are you?"
Hoskins told the judge and the families that his slaying of Maze was unintentional and the result of an argument that got out of hand.
Koncki argued that Hoskins' act was a premeditated murder, a slow and violent strangulation.

Antonio Beatty, 21, showed no remorse as he stared, smiled, and even stuck his tongue out at the victim's family.
Whitley's fiancee, daughter, and sister were all present. They were furious about Beatty's actions.

A courtroom is the actual enclosed space in which a judge regularly holds court.
The schedule of official court proceedings is called a docket; the term is also synonymous with a court's caseload as a whole.
The judge generally sits behind a raised desk, known as the bench. Benches in U.S. federal courtrooms and some state courtrooms are usually bullet-resistant to protect judges from courtroom shootouts. Behind the judge are the great seal of the jurisdiction and the flags of the appropriate federal and state governments. Judges usually wear a plain black robe (a requirement in many jurisdictions). An exception was the late U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who broke tradition by adorning his robe with four gold stripes on each sleeve.
Adjacent to the bench are the witness stand and the desks where the court clerk and the court reporter sit. The courtroom is divided into two parts by a barrier known as the bar. The bar may be an actual railing, or an imaginary barrier. The bailiff stands (or sits) against one wall and keeps order in the courtroom.

The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt, 42, owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks. Jahleel Hoskins' mother yelled at the defendant's cousin to shut up as Redford banged his gavel, demanding order.
January 6, 2014 Grand Rapids, Michigan (WOOD/MLive) -- The tragic drama surrounding the murder of Latrice Maze, a mother of five, only intensified Monday when the man convicted of killing her violently erupted in the courtroom upon learning his sentence.
Jahleel Hoskins did offer a weeping apology to the family of the woman he killed last March. He talked of how the victim's body was disposed of in a trash dumpster, yet told her family and the judge that he loved Maze and her murder was unintentional.
But when Hoskins was handed a 50-to-100-year prison term, the handcuffed man threw the podium toward the bench of Kent County Circuit Court Judge James Robert Redford and lumbered forward until court deputies dragged him from the courtroom with his eyes bugging out in fury.
Even as the 26-year-old was being muscled out of the courtroom, the family of Hoskins began screaming at the family of the victim, which included the victim's mother and father, who made emotional statements to the court earlier.
While one especially vocal woman who described herself as a cousin of Hoskins yelled at the victim's family, Maze supporters began to react loudly as well, The two groups surged toward each other as additional court deputies began to enter the courtroom to separate the groups.
Hoskins' distraught mother yelled at the defendant's cousin to shut up as Redford banged his gavel, demanding order.
The events of the sentencing followed by a few weeks the equally dramatic, if less violent, actions of Hoskins who halted his trial on Dec. 11 by pleading to second-degree murder in the midst of testimony.
But Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Kellee Koncki told the judge that his confession should not result in any benefit for Hoskins and called on the judge to craft a sentence that would guarantee a virtual lifetime behind bars.
Hoskins killed Maze at her apartment at 47 Burton St. SW and then placed her body in a dumpster outside a Wyoming apartment complex.
Koncki argued that Hoskins killed Maze because she was going to talk to police about an assault by Hoskins against the father of two of Maze's children.
"After you killed her, you had a party in her house," Rose said. "What kind of person are you?"
Hoskins told the judge and the families that his slaying of Maze was unintentional and the result of an argument that got out of hand.
Koncki argued that Hoskins' act was a premeditated murder, a slow and violent strangulation.

Tacoma, WA -- (July 13, 2013) Officials have just released video of a wild brawl that occurred last month in a Tacoma, WA courthouse. The video shows police escorting a 20-year-old murder defendant, Marsele Henderson, through the halls when friends of the deceased victim storm past a guard, rush the defendant, and start beating him. Police eventually subdue the attackers, but only after using stun guns. Henderson was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Victor Schwenke in November 2008.
Cuyahoga County, Ohio -- (August 22, 2012) A highly-recruited Ohio basketball star collapsed in court after a judge sentenced him to prison for assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend. Courtroom news cameras caught the shock on hot college prospect Tony Farmer's face as Cuyahoga County Court Judge Pamela Barker gave him three years for kidnapping in the April incident. "I got three years?" the stunned 18-year-old asked his lawyer. Barker continued with sentencing, slapping the 6-7, 220-pound star with two years for felonious assault and two years for robbery. Convinced he was headed to prison for seven years, Farmer collapsed in a heap at his lawyer's feet, as anguished supporters cried out and fled the courtroom.
Charleston, S.C. -- (11/4/2011) A Charleston courtroom was the setting for a bizarre scene when two lesbian lovers collapsed, wailed uncontrollably and hyper-ventilated after hearing they would serve life for killing a three-year-old girl. Erica Mae Butts and Shanita Latrice Cunningham had to be picked off the floor by court officials and held in chairs as they were wheeled out of the room. The mother of Butts was physically thrown out by three staff members after shouting loudly at her daughter to, 'Get up!' then screaming, 'I can't leave my baby like this, my baby is out!'
Bartow, Florida - (October 28, 2010) Circuit Judge J. Michael Hunter declared a mistrial today in the murder trial of Leon Davis Jr. Davis is charged with three counts of First Degree Murder for the killings in Lake Wales in 2007. Investigators say Davis threw gasoline on 23-year-old Juanita Luciano -- who was six months pregnant -- and her 26-year-old sister-in-law, Yvonne Bustamante, then set them on fire. Both women died. Luciano's baby was delivered in an emergency c-section, but also died. Davis also faces another murder trial for the unrelated killings of two Polk County convenience store clerks.
MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (August 24, 2010) -- A wild brawl erupted in a South Carolina courtroom on Tuesday when the family members of a slain woman attacked the man charged in her death. A bond hearing was about to get started when two relatives of the dead woman jumped from their seats and attacked the suspect, punching him in the eye. It took six officers to control them. They were eventually arrested and led from the court. The judge has charged the two with contempt of court.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man convicted of killing his wife and twin 2-year-old sons was attacked in court by a family member of the victims Wednesday. Formal sentencing for Clayton Jerrod Ellington, 31, was set to begin at 10 a.m. The jury who convicted Ellington recommended a sentence of death.

With God to your front and Satan the prosecutor to your left

By the fourth, the devil seemed shook
