Tyranny and Mutation (on the album cover: THE BLVE ÖYSTER CVLT: TYRANNY AND MVTATION) was the second album by the American hard rock band Blue Öyster Cult, released on February 11, 1973.
The album was recorded from songs written while touring in support of their eponymous debut album. Blue Öyster Cult continued to develop their style of "intelligent heavy metal" on this record.
"Baby Ice Dog" features lyrics by poet Patti Smith, who would ultimately make several more lyrical contributions to the band's repertoire over their career.
The song "The Red and the Black" is a re-titled, re-recorded version of "I'm on the Lamb But I Ain't No Sheep" from their previous album. The lyrics are a reference to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On the LP version, one side had the original black text-on-red background style for the label of side 1 (called "The Black") where side 2 ("The Red") had the opposite – a black background with red text. On the 2001 remasters of this album and of Blue Öyster Cult, this red-on-black style is used on the disc. (Secret Treaties and Agents of Fortune use the black-on-red style.)

BOC's encore at Game Changer World in Allentown, Pa. on May 26, 2017. It was the grand opening night for Game Changer World at this location (they have a similar business in NJ), which is primarily a family fun center. The band struggled to get there from their show the night before in Maine and didn't go on until 11 PM but despite the delays and some problems with their sound, they still rocked as they always do!
Blue Öyster Cult performs Hot Rails to Hell as an encore at the second set from the Beach Boardwalk Santa Cruz Ca July 25th, 2008. Special thanks to the hearing impaired interpreter, she did a great job! ...and yes Eric said the "BEST AUDIENCE OF THE SUMMER" WE ROCK!

Waves, cold waves
Are splashing on rocks,
Vertical rocks, which spread to heaven
Seagulls are flying around
Over the cold sea
Which calls me there
Where I wasn't before, to heaven.
I run away in my heart
Heaven is my wreath
I run there
Where is the way to heaven?
I rise up my eyes
God, my God, listen to me
I want to fly above the sea
I want to go to heaven.
Moon, the moon that rose up
Suspended above the sea
Cold sea
That is playing with the wind
Waves are reflecting
Light from heaven
Glowing light that falls from heaven
Where the moon is flying, to heaven.
God, listen to me
I call you
I want to fly above the waves
Take me, my God
To heaven (4)
