The Alpini (English: "Alpini"), in fact Mountain Troops, are an elite mountain warfare military corps of the Italian Army. They are currently organized in two operational brigades, which are subordinated to the Alpine Troops Headquarters. Established in 1872, the Alpini are the oldest active mountain infantry in the world. Their original mission was to protect Italy's northern mountain border with France and Austria. In 1888 the Alpini deployed on their first mission abroad, in Africa, a continent where they returned on several occasions and during various wars of the Kingdom of Italy. They emerged during World War I as they fought a three-year campaign on the Alps against Austro-Hungarian Kaiserjäger and the German Alpenkorps in what has since become known as the "War in snow and ice". During World War II, the Alpini fought alongside the Axis forces, mainly across the Eastern Front and in the Balkans Campaigns. After the end of the Cold War, the Italian Army was reorganised in the 1990s. Three out of five Alpini brigades and many support units were disbanded. Currently, the Alpini are deployed in Afghanistan. Gli Alpini sono la fanteria da montagna dell'Esercito Italiano anche se questo nome è di fatto esteso a tutte le specialità da montagna delle varie armi/corpi dell'Esercito Italiano. Queste truppe, specializzate nella guerra sui terreni montani, sono attualmente organizzate sostanzialmente su due brigate operative inquadrate nel Comando truppe alpine. Costituiti ad opera del capitano Giuseppe Perrucchetti, in Napoli con regio decreto legge del 15 ottobre 1872, gli Alpini sono il più antico corpo di fanteria da montagna attivo nel mondo, originariamente creato per proteggere i confini montani settentrionali dell'Italia con Francia, Impero austro-ungarico e Svizzera. Nel 1888 gli Alpini furono inviati alla loro prima missione all'estero, in Africa, continente nel quale sono tornati più volte nella loro storia, per combattere le guerre coloniali del Regno d'Italia. Essi si sono distinti durante la prima guerra mondiale, quando furono impiegati nei combattimenti al confine nord-est con l'Austria-Ungheria, dove per tre anni dovettero confrontarsi con le truppe da montagna austriache e tedesche, rispettivamente Kaiserschützen e Alpenkorps, in quella che da allora è diventata nota come la "guerra in alta quota". Als Alpini bezeichnet man die italienischen Gebirgsjäger. Sie wurden im Jahr 1872 gegründet und gelten als die älteste aktive Gebirgsjägertruppe der Welt. Die Alpini sind als Gebirgsjäger eine Untergattung der Infanterie des italienischen Heeres. Zusammen mit der Gebirgsartillerie, den Gebirgspionieren und weiteren auf das Gebirge spezialisierten Truppen anderer Waffengattungen bilden sie die italienischen Gebirgstruppen (truppe alpine). Ihnen gemeinsam ist eine besondere Kopfbedeckung, der sogenannte „Alpini-Hut", der Ausdruck eines starken Korpsgeistes ist. Les Alpins (en italien : les Alpini) sont les troupes de l'armée italienne spécialisées pour le combat en zone montagneuse. Elles sont rattachées à l'Infanterie et composées, actuellement de deux brigades. Formées en 1872, ces unités se trouvent être les plus anciennes des troupes de montagnes actuelles. Leur mission d'origine était de défendre les frontières montagneuses du nord de l'Italie face à la France et l'Autriche. En 1888, les Alpins effectueront leur premier déploiement outre-mer, en Afrique. Ils se signaleront durant le premier conflit mondial en combattant pendant trois ans dans les Alpes, s'opposant aux troupes de montagne allemandes et autrichiennes. Durant le second conflit mondial, ils seront principalement engagés sur le Front de l'Est et dans les Balkans. Alpini är den italienska arméns alptrupper. Huvuddelen av alptrupperna utgörs av alpjägare, en förbandstyp som grundades 1872 och därför anses vara världens äldsta bergstrupper. Till alptrupperna hör även bergsartilleriet och andra alpint specialiserade delar av andra truppslag. Gemensamt för alptrupperna är den särskilda huvudbonaden, en hatt med örnfjäder.
