There are two main meanings for the word landscape: it can refer to the visible features of an area of land, or to an example of the genre of painting that depicts such an area of land. Landscape, in both senses, includes the physical elements of landforms such as (ice-capped) mountains, hills, water bodies such as rivers, lakes, ponds and the sea, living elements of land cover including indigenous vegetation, human elements including different forms of land use, buildings and structures, and transitory elements such as lighting and weather conditions.
Combining both their physical origins and the cultural overlay of human presence, often created over millennia, landscapes reflect a living synthesis of people and place that is vital to local and national identity. The character of a landscape helps define the self-image of the people who inhabit it and a sense of place that differentiates one region from other regions. It is the dynamic backdrop to people’s lives. Landscape can be as varied as farmland, a landscape park, or wilderness.

I travelled to Florida twice to link with Brad while filming for Outliers. Being from Atlanta, I have always been a big fan of Florida skateboarding. The scenes and skateboarders where always inspiring, so I was excited to head to Florida to hit it with Brad. I flew into West Palm Beach for the first mission. We stayed at Brad's folks' house. We linked with Pang, Joey Ragali and Brendan Carroll and skated a lot of amazing nugs in and around Jupiter, West Palm, and Lake Worth. From West Palm we all drove down to Miami and stayed in South Beach for a few days. The second mission in Florida with Brad was a Miami trip with Oliver Barton and the whole Outliers crew. Pang joined us again and held it down helping with the filming. We spent a week in Miami and it was one for the books. This edit i...

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B00EB8H4CO/book The capital of the U.s. Empire after World War Ii was not a city. It was an American suburb. In this innovative and timely history, Andrew Friedman chronicles how the Cia and other national security institutions created a U.s. imperial home front in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. In this covert capital, the suburban landscape provided a cover for the workings of U.s. imperial power, which shaped domestic suburban life. The Pentagon and the Cia built two of the largest office buildings in the country there during and after the war that anchored a new imperial culture and social world. As the U.s. expanded its power abroad by developing roads, embassies, and villages, its subjects also arrived in the covert capital ...

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B01D4OFSDC/book The Middle East is well-known for its historic gardens that have developed over more than two millenniums. The role of urban landscape projects in Middle Eastern cities has grown in prominence, with a gradual shift in emphasis from gardens for the private sphere to an increasingly public function. The contemporary landscape projects, either designed as public plazas or public parks, have played a significant role in transferring the modern Middle Eastern cities to a new era and also in transforming to a newly shaped social culture in which the public has a voice. This book considers what ties these projects to their historical context, and what regional and local elements and concepts have been used in their design.

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B0043M4I3G/book Preservation has traditionally focused on saving prominent buildings of historical or architectural significance. Preserving cultural landscapes-the combined fabric of the natural and man-made environments-is a relatively new and often misunderstood idea among preservationists, but it is of increasing importance. The essays collected in this volume-case studies that include the Little Tokyo neighborhood in Los Angeles, the Cross Bronx Expressway, and a rural island in Puget Sound-underscore how this approach can be fruitfully applied. Together, they make clear that a cultural landscape perspective can be an essential underpinning for all historic preservation projects. Contributors: Susan Calafate Boyle, National Par...

The landscapes of these New Communities contrast with nearby small cities that are home to longstanding Mexican-american communities, where different landscapes reveal a history of inequality of opportunity. Together these two landscape types illustrate how inequality can persist or abate through comprehensive descriptions of the three main types of Midwestern Mexican-american landscapes: Established Communities, New Communities, and Mixed Communities. Each is described in spatial and non-spatial terms, with a focus on one example city. Specific directives about design...

Cuba: The Accidental Eden, Nature Documentary, Astonishing and Wild Landscapes Cuba may have been restricted politically and economically for the past 50 years, but its borders have remained open to wildlife for which Cuba's undeveloped islands are an irresistible draw. While many islands in the Caribbean have poisoned or paved over their ecological riches on land and in the sea in pursuit of a growing tourist industry, Cuba's wild landscapes have remained virtually untouched, creating a safe haven for rare and intriguing indigenous animals, as well as for hundreds of species of migrating birds and marine creatures. Coral reefs have benefited, too. Independent research has shown that Cuba's corals are doing much better than others both in the Caribbean and around the world. Attribution:...

You were ought to stay, forever, away
Not to interfere within my landscapes
Did I not let you be?
Did I not leave you for me?
I can see a thousand rivers better than this one
I need a storm to blow me away
Who can see the brighter morning?
I have to wash this face away
