This initiative which will take place twice a year( June and December) aims to help orphanages in Goa. The idea is to collect as much food ( non perishable) and utilities as possible, that is used in everyday life. The money saved in these products by the institutions, can be invested to give the children a better education. With time we aim to collaborate with banks, rotary clubs, supermarkets, pharmacies etc to help us make this a large scale initiative so that we can easily cover all the orphanages in Goa and meet their needs. Food Bank 2013 The first Food bank organized by Communicare Trust In December 2013 was a success. 1 ton food and 109 toothbrushes was the procurement of this 2-days long initiative. Two teams of our volunteers awaited the regular customers of Magsons supercenter in Miramar and Magsons Hymart in Caculo Mall with a shopping list ambitiously looking forward to contribute to 4 orphanages of Goa: Care & Compassion Children's Home at Altinho, Mother Teresa's Roses at Parra, Bethesda Life Centre at St.Cruz and Little Angels at Chorao. All that was asked of the customers was to buy one extra item along with their regular shopping and contribute it to our food bank. The response from our people was magnanimous. An average of 40% of the clients did drop inCommunicare Trust's cart a packet of rice, wheat flour, a toothpaste or a simple packet of biscuits, which proves that Goans are generous by nature. Even though the main aim of this trust is to teach as many languages as possible under one roof, it decided to extend a helping hand to a few orphanages in Goa and not just because it is Christmas. The idea is to organize this food bank twice in a year and the next one is already scheduled to be organized some time before the monsoons arrive.
