Návštěvníci (The Visitors) is a Czechoslovak sci-fi TV series filmed between 1981 and 1983 by Czech director Jindřich Polák. The 15 parts were co-produced with television-companies of the Federal Republic of Germany (West-Germany at that time), Switzerland and France. As an additional 16th part for Germany a "Making Of" was produced under the title "Besuch bei den Besuchern" (Visiting the Visitors). In West-Germany the series got the title Die Besucher (The Visitors), in the German Democratic Republic it was called Expedition Adam 84.

Plot

In the 25th century—more precisely, in the year 2484—people live in a peaceful world. Thus, mankind is horrified when CML (Central Brain of Mankind), the main supercomputer managing the fate of humankind and Earth, announces an upcoming disaster. It has spotted a huge space object on a collision course with Earth. The impact is unavoidable, and the prediction is that a significant part of the Earth will be destroyed.

But there is hope. Professor Filip, biographer of the greatest physicist ever, Adam Bernau, offers a plan to save mankind — a time travel to the past. Adam Bernau was a genius mathematician and physicist of the 20th and 21st centuries, and winner of the Nobel prize. In his memoirs, Bernau stated that in his childhood he wrote down in his notebook a short formula that would allow the moving of whole continents, worlds and planets. This can save the Earth.

The Visitors (opera)

The Visitors is an opera in three acts and a prologue composed by Carlos Chávez to an English libretto by the American poet Chester Kallman. The work was Chávez's only opera. Its first version, with the title Panfilo and Lauretta, premiered in New York City in 1957. The final version with the title The Visitors was premiered in Guanajuato, Mexico in 1999, twenty years after the composer's death. The story is set in 14th century Tuscany during the time of the Black Death. The libretto (like those for Pagliacci and Ariadne auf Naxos) uses the device of a play within a play to reflect and intensify the relationships between the protagonists, who in this case are loosely based on characters in The Decameron.

Performance history

The Visitors was originally commissioned in 1953 by Lincoln Kirstein, with the intention of premiering it in 1954 in New York City. Chávez began working on the score with the provisional title of The Tuscan Players in the spring of 1953 and continued working on it until 1956. The opera finally premiered with the title Panfilo and Lauretta on 9 May 1957 in the Brander Matthews Theatre at Columbia University, conducted by Howard Shannet. It was then presented on three occasions in Mexico, conducted by the composer: in October 1959 (in English) in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City; in 1963, again at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, but in a Spanish translation by Noel Lindsay and Eduardo Hernández Moncada with the title El amor propiciado (Love Propitiated); and in 1968 with the title of Los Visitantes (The Visitors) as part of the cultural programme for the XIX Olympic Games.

Pull (Mr. Mister album)

Pull is the fourth studio album by American pop band Mr. Mister, and the only album not to feature founding guitarist Steve Farris, who had departed the band in 1989. It was recorded from 1989 to 1990, but the record company refrained from releasing this more introspective album. Due to the band's being left without a record company – and subsequent breakup – the album was left unreleased until 2010, when it was remixed and released. In the intervening time, bootleg copies of the album (along with various fan-made album cover images) could be found on the Internet. In 2010, the album was finally released by Richard Page's own Little Dume Recordings label.

The album was made available as a physical CD plus digital download.

No singles were released from this album, although one track ("We Belong to No One") was offered as a free download from the Little Dume website while the album was being prepped for release. Also, "Waiting in My Dreams" was first featured on the band's The Best of Mr. Mister album.

Arcwelder

Arcwelder is an American punk band which formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1988. The band, a perennial local favorite, consists of brothers Rob and Bill Graber and Scott Macdonald, all of whom share in the tasks of songwriting and singing.

Under their original name Tilt-A-Whirl, the band released their first album This in 1990 on the small Minneapolis label Big Money, Inc. As the record was being released, the band was sued for trademark infringement by Sellner Manufacturing, the manufacturer of the Tilt-A-Whirl amusement ride. Rather than go to court, the band changed their name to Arcwelder, the title of an instrumental on the record. The initial release of This had a disclaimer sticker noting the lack of affiliation between the ride's manufacturer and the band.

Arcwelder has toured the U.S. with such bands as the Jesus Lizard, Jawbox, and Tar, and has played shows with such artists as Dirty Three, Pegboy, Caspar Brötzmann, and Cows.

In 1992, the song "Favor", from the album Jacket Made in Canada, appeared at number 32 on John Peel's "Festive Fifty".
