If you’d like to get around town easily but don’t want to rent a car, the Capital Bikeshare program will let you cruise around the city without wasting gas or getting stuck in traffic. Check out the Watergate Hotel and Kennedy Center when you stop at Foggy Bottom, then move on to Georgetown, the oldest district in D.C. It’s filled with 18th-century buildings and, of course, the university itself. After a stop at the National Cathedral, make your way to the Smithsonian National Zoo,...

The Seattle Times National champions! Washington women’s golf team takes title EUGENE, Ore. — Julianne Alvarez made sure Ying Luo’s incredible shot was not for naught. Alvarez, a freshman from New Zealand, won on the second extra hole Wednesday to give the fourth-seeded Washington women’s golf team the deciding point in a 3-2 win over defending champion Stanford for the program’s first national championship. UW seemed to have the title won at Eugene Country Club when on the final shot of Luo’s UW career, she holed out from 61 yards on the 18th hole for birdie, giving her a win in her match and the Huskies a 2-1 lead. “I imagined it going in,” said Luo, who thought about teammate Sarah Rhee holing out from the bunker on the 18th hole Tuesday to give UW a semifinal win. And when it found t...

Neil deGrasse Tyson gives a wonderful lecture at the University of Washington; covering Astronomy, Sociology, and Scientific development in an entertaining lecture. It is important that education passes through on all mediums to those who wish to learn - and thank you, the viewer, for seeking to expand your knowledge. Another Note: I was not physically present at this lecture. I am not the camera man. The Camera man did what he could to keep NDT on the camera while also paying attention to the slides. Sometimes he didn't catch the slides. If he focused on the slides only, there would be a crop of complainers that they never showed NDT. So before you add...
Meet this new relaxation video from www.beautifulwashington.com It was created to plunge viewers into the atmosphere of life at the University of Washington during this fabulous time of the year. Enjoy the views and even feel the smell of the iconic collection of cherry trees in the Quard, which is located in the northeast area of the main campus. Thousands of people flock to the University of Washington to see the pinkish-white flowers, take lots of pictures, and even have a picnic under the blooming branches of a cherry tree. YouTube compresses video, and the quality of the movie worsens significantly. If you want to enjoy the movie in fantastic 4K (UHD) quality , download it from http://www.beautifulwashington.com/shop/nature-relaxation-videos/cherry-blossom-relax.html Visit my Trave...
The Five Tribes of Machine Learning, and What You Can Take from Each: There are five main schools of thought in machine learning, and each has its own master algorithm – a general-purpose learner that can in principle be applied to any domain. The symbolists have inverse deduction, the connectionists have backpropagation, the evolutionaries have genetic programming, the Bayesians have probabilistic inference, and the analogizers have support vector machines. What we really need, however, is a single algorithm combining the key features of all of them. In this talk I will describe my work toward this goal, including in particular Markov logic networks, and speculate on the new applications that such a universal learner will enable, and how society will change as a result.
On Friday, March 7 2014, the University of Washington Bothell community was honored to host provocateur and best-selling author Dr. Cornel West. During his talk, West challenged students to mobilize and use success and privilege for something bigger than themselves.
