Babasaheb Neelkanth Kalyani is an Indian businessman who served as the chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge, the flagship company of the Kalyani Group and the world's second-largest forgings manufacturer after ThyssenKrupp of Germany.
Baba Kalyani was born on 7 January 1949 to Sulochana and Neelakanth Kalyani, a Pune based technocrat and maker of auto components. He completed his high school from Rastriya Military School Belgaum/Belgavi, formerly King George Royal Indian Military College. He attended BITS Pilani, from where he earned a BE(Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering in 1970, and later in Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned an MS degree.
Baba Kalyani joined Bharat Forge in 1972 when the company's annual turnover was about US $1.3 million; it was then a global company with 11 manufacturing facilities spread across India, USA, Germany, Sweden, and China.
Kalyani pioneered the export of automobile components from India to China in 2002. Bharat Forge was the country's largest exporter of automotive components for eight consecutive years, with exports contributing almost 50% to total sales. Every second heavy truck manufactured in USA runs on a "Made by Bharat Forge, India" front axle beam. Bharat Forge’s global customer base comprises 38 automobile manufacturers besides several tier suppliers to the industry.

Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), is a Pune-based Indian multinational company involved in automotive, power, oil and gas, construction & mining, locomotive, marine and aerospace industries.
The company was founded by Nilkanthrao Kalyani in 1961. The current chairman of the company is his son, Baba Kalyani. It is part of the Kalyani Group, which is a USD 2.5 billion conglomerate with 10,000 global work force.
Bharat Forge has signed a Joint Venture with France-based power generation company Alstom for turbines and generators. The Alstom holds 51% of the shares and Bharat Forge 49% in the joint venture. Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd also has started its manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat.
In 2015, Bharat Forge had total sales of over US$ 1.3 Billion and has a market capitalisation of over US$4.5 billion. It was rated as one of the best companies in Asia by the Forbes magazine because of its high growth rate.
SEZ- Bharat Forge's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) named as Khedcity is the biggest SEZ in Pune spread over 1,000 hectares (4200Acre) of notified land in Khed taluka.

"It is a gun of great quality" exclaims Chiramn of Kalyani Group, Baba Kalyani as he walks through his manufacturing unit of Bharat Forge in Pune. He says that as compared to the earlier 39 caliber Bofors gun his company has developed a much advanced 52 caliber gun which has a range of up to 41 kilometres. He also adds that things are chaining with the introduction of a new law which makes the government, PSUs and ordinance factories to have taxes at the same level as the private sector. Mr Kalyani says he believes that "We (India) are still the largest producers of basic artillery" and ends by saying "I'm a born optimist plus I'm a shop floor guy."
