This video may seem grim, but it is dog fighting is a reality that rarely gets talked about. In the summer of 2013, we were hired to produce a documentary series about animal welfare in Chicago. To get a full perspective, we were given an anonymous tip to a few dog fighters on Chicago's west side. Some were active, others were not. We also interviewed Chicago Cease Fire founder Tio Hardiman on the subject. The following is an unbiased edit with what we captured.
This video is about the dog fighting over dominance. The dominance fights are more likely to happen when there is a female in heat. In presence of a female dog in heat, pretty much everything that your dog has learnt will go out of the window. Your dog will actively pursue or seek out the female, and this might include running off when unsupervised, refusing to return when called, and escaping from the home or garden to go off and find the female. Male dogs will go to great lengths to try to get to a female dog in season, and will have extra motivation to find them. They may jump fences, dig their way out of the garden, or chew through a tether or lead securing them in order to get on their way. There might be a dramatic change in the behavior of your dog and this may lead them to act weirdly. This can further lead to a very annoying behavior such as constant barking, howling and trying their best to get out of the house. This kind of behavior will continue as long as they can smell a female around. If they can't smell or the female goes off season then the dog will start acting normally again. As you can see in the video the most of these dogs are pet dogs that have escaped their owner's house for a female on heat. Now obviously, in situations like this your own dog will not going to be the only male in the neighborhood who is affected by the presence of a female dog in heat, or can be the dominant one. There will be a lot of dogs involved with different blood lines and this can be very dangerous for your pet dogs. When two un-neutered male dogs will come face to face while the scent of a female dog in heat is in the air are likely to be aggressive, and this can lead to deadly fights in some cases. The best solution is to neuter your dogs and this will keep them calm and away from the dangers lurking out in the streets.

A Texas pet owner whose four dogs killed her neighbor's beagle is now suing the victim’s family for a million dollars.
The Baker’s 10-year-old dog, Bailey was in their backyard on October 27th when Emerald White’s four pit bulls broke into their backyard and attacked their puppy.
When Tiffany Baker’s daughter heard their four legged family member barking they couldn’t believe their eyes.
White’s four pit bulls gruesomely attacked the beagle killing him in their backyard.
White says she intervened when the dogs were fighting, but claims she was attacked by little Bailey.
White says her dogs were just defending their owner.
Since the incident, White says she suffered serious injuries and is forever dramatized from the dog attack.
Her attorney says one million dollars is enough to cover the price of being attacked by the animal.
White has since moved from the home, but will not drop the lawsuit.
The Baker’s say suing White will not bring back their little Bailey, but are outraged by the amount of money that she is trying to receive.

Caught on camera by 45-year-old General Manager, Hans Schuring, he tells LatestSightings.com how this sighting played out: “After camping for twenty-two days in the Kruger National Park, we were on our way home with an early start from Satara camp, heading towards Phabeni gate. As always, we had mixed feelings, a bit sad to leave, but anxious to see one more amazing sighting.

At around 6:50 we were coming around a bend, on the H1-2, heading towards the H12, with the caravan running happily behind our vehicle, when suddenly we saw movement to the right of the road. As we came closer we saw a wild dog standing over an impala that was lying next to the road. Initially, we were a bit disappointed that we’d missed the actual catch by a matter of maybe seconds, but the following moments were very intense and emotional. The impala was still alive trying to get to his feet as the wild dog was biting and tearing away the flesh from the stomach area.
The wild dog continued to bite and pull on the impala so strongly, that the impala managed to get to his feet again, and for a moment we were in disbelief and shock when we saw that the impala’s intestines were hanging outside his body while he was still alive and fending off the wild dog.
The emotions in the vehicle soon changed to a deep sadness for the brave impala, hoping that his misery will end soon. It was heart-breaking to watch, he put up a very brave stand-off against the wild dog but it felt like hours before the rest of the pack began to arrive whilst the wild dog was circling its prey and calling them to join in the kill.
Once the rest of the pack arrived the impala made a last attempt to fend off the pack but they were on him in a matter of seconds and bringing him down, and he finally died. It was brutal and fierce, typical wild dog hunting behaviour, but this is nature at its best and why we love to come back to Kruger Park year after year. In less than ten minutes the pack devoured the impala, side by side, giving each other an opportunity to eat.
This was truly an amazing sighting for us. We have seen wild dogs before in the park, laying under trees, or trotting down the road or in the veld, but never with a kill. We were mesmerized during the 10-15 minutes with all the interaction, only afterwards fully realizing what we had witnessed.
We were only two or three vehicles who saw the whole ordeal, one car just driving past, looking the other way…
Kruger park is really an amazing place, you never know what you will find around the next corner.

Dogfight
A dogfight, or dog fight, is an aerial battle between fighter aircraft, conducted at close range. Dogfighting first appeared during World War I, shortly after the invention of the airplane. Until at least 1992, it was a component in every major war, despite beliefs after World War II that increasingly greater speeds and longer range weapons would make dogfighting obsolete. Modern terminology for air-to-air combat is air combat maneuvering (ACM), which refers to tactical situations requiring the use of individual basic fighter maneuvers (BFM) to attack or evade one or more opponents. This differs from aerial warfare, which deals with the strategy involved in planning and executing various missions.
Etymology
The term dogfight has been used for centuries to describe a melee; a fierce, fast-paced battle between two or more opponents. The term gained popularity during World War II although its origin in air combat can be traced to the latter years of World War I. The first written reference to the modern day usage of the word comes from Fly Papers, by A. E. Illingworth, in 1919, “The battle develops into a ‘dog-fight’, small groups of machines engaging each other in a fight to the death.” The term fighter ace generally applies to any pilot who eliminates five opponent craft in the air (or, in Germany during World War I, ten aircraft), although not necessarily in a dogfight.

This video may seem grim, but it is dog fighting is a reality that rarely gets talked about. In the summer of 2013, we were hired to produce a documentary series about animal welfare in Chicago. To get a full perspective, we were given an anonymous tip to a few dog fighters on Chicago's west side. Some were active, others were not. We also interviewed Chicago Cease Fire founder Tio Hardiman on the subject. The following is an unbiased edit with what we captured.

This video is about the dog fighting over dominance. The dominance fights are more likely to happen when there is a female in heat. In presence of a female dog in heat, pretty much everything that your dog has learnt will go out of the window. Your dog will actively pursue or seek out the female, and this might include running off when unsupervised, refusing to return when called, and escaping from the home or garden to go off and find the female. Male dogs will go to great lengths to try to get to a female dog in season, and will have extra motivation to find them. They may jump fences, dig their way out of the garden, or chew through a tether or lead securing them in order to get on their way. There might be a dramatic change in the behavior of your dog and this may lead them to act weirdly. This can further lead to a very annoying behavior such as constant barking, howling and trying their best to get out of the house. This kind of behavior will continue as long as they can smell a female around. If they can't smell or the female goes off season then the dog will start acting normally again. As you can see in the video the most of these dogs are pet dogs that have escaped their owner's house for a female on heat. Now obviously, in situations like this your own dog will not going to be the only male in the neighborhood who is affected by the presence of a female dog in heat, or can be the dominant one. There will be a lot of dogs involved with different blood lines and this can be very dangerous for your pet dogs. When two un-neutered male dogs will come face to face while the scent of a female dog in heat is in the air are likely to be aggressive, and this can lead to deadly fights in some cases. The best solution is to neuter your dogs and this will keep them calm and away from the dangers lurking out in the streets.

White’s four pit bulls gruesomely attacked the beagle killing him in their backyard.
White says she intervened when the dogs were fighting, but claims she was attacked by little Bailey.
White says her dogs were just defending their owner.
Since the incident, White says she suffered serious injuries and is forever dramatized from the dog attack.
Her attorney says one million dollars is enough to cover the price of being attacked by the animal.
White has since moved from the home, but will not drop the lawsuit.
The Baker’s say suing White will not bring back their little Bailey, but are outraged by the amount of money that she is trying to receive.

Caught on camera by 45-year-old General Manager, Hans Schuring, he tells LatestSightings.com how this sighting played out: “After camping for twenty-two days in the Kruger National Park, we were on our way home with an early start from Satara camp, heading towards Phabeni gate. As always, we had mixed feelings, a bit sad to leave, but anxious to see one more amazing sighting.

At around 6:50 we were coming around a bend, on the H1-2, heading towards the H12, with the caravan running happily behind our vehicle, when suddenly we saw movement to the right of the road. As we came closer we saw a wild dog standing over an impala that was lying next to the road. Initially, we were a bit disappointed that we’d missed the actual catch by a matter of maybe seconds, but the following moments were very intense and emotional. The impala was still alive trying to get to his feet as the wild dog was biting and tearing away the flesh from the stomach area.
The wild dog continued to bite and pull on the impala so strongly, that the impala managed to get to his feet again, and for a moment we were in disbelief and shock when we saw that the impala’s intestines were hanging outside his body while he was still alive and fending off the wild dog.
The emotions in the vehicle soon changed to a deep sadness for the brave impala, hoping that his misery will end soon. It was heart-breaking to watch, he put up a very brave stand-off against the wild dog but it felt like hours before the rest of the pack began to arrive whilst the wild dog was circling its prey and calling them to join in the kill.
Once the rest of the pack arrived the impala made a last attempt to fend off the pack but they were on him in a matter of seconds and bringing him down, and he finally died. It was brutal and fierce, typical wild dog hunting behaviour, but this is nature at its best and why we love to come back to Kruger Park year after year. In less than ten minutes the pack devoured the impala, side by side, giving each other an opportunity to eat.
This was truly an amazing sighting for us. We have seen wild dogs before in the park, laying under trees, or trotting down the road or in the veld, but never with a kill. We were mesmerized during the 10-15 minutes with all the interaction, only afterwards fully realizing what we had witnessed.
We were only two or three vehicles who saw the whole ordeal, one car just driving past, looking the other way…
Kruger park is really an amazing place, you never know what you will find around the next corner.

In presence of a female dog in heat, pretty much everything that your dog has learnt will go out of the window. Your dog will actively pursue or seek out the female, and this might include running off when unsupervised, refusing to return when called, and escaping from the home or garden to go off and find the female. Male dogs will go to great lengths to try to get to a female dog in season, and will have extra motivation to find them. They may jump fences, dig their way out of the garden, or chew through a tether or lead securing them in order to get on their way. There might be a dramatic change in the behavior of your dog and this may lead them to act weirdly. This can further lead to a very annoying behavior such as constant barking, howling and trying their best to get out of the house. This kind of behavior will continue as long as they can smell a female around. If they can't smell or the female goes off season then the dog will start acting normally again. As you can see in the video the most of these dogs are pet dogs that have escaped their owner's house for a female on heat. Now obviously, in situations like this your own dog will not going to be the only male in the neighborhood who is affected by the presence of a female dog in heat, or can be the dominant one. There will be a lot of dogs involved with different blood lines and this can be very dangerous for your pet dogs. When two un-neutered male dogs will come face to face while the scent of a female dog in heat is in the air are likely to be aggressive, and this can lead to deadly fights in some cases. The best solution is to neuter your dogs and this will keep them calm and away from the dangers lurking out in the streets.

White’s four pit bulls gruesomely attacked the beagle killing him in their backyard.
White says she intervened when the dogs were fighting, but claims she was attacked by little Bailey.
White says her dogs were just defending their owner.
Since the incident, White says she suffered serious injuries and is forever dramatized from the dog attack.
Her attorney says one million dollars is enough to cover the price of being attacked by the animal.
White has since moved from the home, but will not drop the lawsuit.
The Baker’s say suing White will not bring back their little Bailey, but are outraged by the amount of money that she is trying to receive.

Caught on camera by 45-year-old General Manager, Hans Schuring, he tells LatestSightings.com how this sighting played out: “After camping for twenty-two days in the Kruger National Park, we were on our way home with an early start from Satara camp, heading towards Phabeni gate. As always, we had mixed feelings, a bit sad to leave, but anxious to see one more amazing sighting.

At around 6:50 we were coming around a bend, on the H1-2, heading towards the H12, with the caravan running happily behind our vehicle, when suddenly we saw movement to the right of the road. As we came closer we saw a wild dog standing over an impala that was lying next to the road. Initially, we were a bit disappointed that we’d missed the actual catch by a matter of maybe seconds, but the following moments were very intense and emotional. The impala was still alive trying to get to his feet as the wild dog was biting and tearing away the flesh from the stomach area.
The wild dog continued to bite and pull on the impala so strongly, that the impala managed to get to his feet again, and for a moment we were in disbelief and shock when we saw that the impala’s intestines were hanging outside his body while he was still alive and fending off the wild dog.
The emotions in the vehicle soon changed to a deep sadness for the brave impala, hoping that his misery will end soon. It was heart-breaking to watch, he put up a very brave stand-off against the wild dog but it felt like hours before the rest of the pack began to arrive whilst the wild dog was circling its prey and calling them to join in the kill.
Once the rest of the pack arrived the impala made a last attempt to fend off the pack but they were on him in a matter of seconds and bringing him down, and he finally died. It was brutal and fierce, typical wild dog hunting behaviour, but this is nature at its best and why we love to come back to Kruger Park year after year. In less than ten minutes the pack devoured the impala, side by side, giving each other an opportunity to eat.
This was truly an amazing sighting for us. We have seen wild dogs before in the park, laying under trees, or trotting down the road or in the veld, but never with a kill. We were mesmerized during the 10-15 minutes with all the interaction, only afterwards fully realizing what we had witnessed.
We were only two or three vehicles who saw the whole ordeal, one car just driving past, looking the other way…
Kruger park is really an amazing place, you never know what you will find around the next corner.

From the big, sleek, black ones (the scariest kind) to the tiny, fluffy, white ones (the most vicious kind), I hate dogs of every shape, size and cutesy cross-bred iteration ... There are dogs fighting; dogs playing - which looks much the same as fighting to the nervous passer-by; dogs on no leads suddenly darting across the path; dogs on leads so long that there's no way around them....
