A nature reserve (natural reserve, bioreserve, (natural/nature) preserve or (national/nature) conserve) is a protected area of importance for wildlife, flora, fauna or features of geological or other special interest, which is reserved and managed for conservation and to provide special opportunities for study or research. Nature reserves may be designated by government institutions in some countries, or by private landowners, such as charities and research institutions, regardless of nationality. Nature reserves fall into different IUCN categories depending on the level of protection afforded by local laws.
Cultural practices that roughly equate to the establishment and maintenance of reserved areas for animals date back to antiquity, with King Devanampiya Tissa of Sri Lanka establishing one of the world's earliest wildlife sanctuaries in the 3rd century BC. Early reservations often had a religious underpinning, such as the 'evil forest' areas of West Africa which were forbidden to humans, who were threatened with spiritual attack if they went there. Sacred areas taboo from human entry to fishing and hunting are known by many ancient cultures worldwide.
Wildlife traditionally refers to non-domesticated animal species, but has come to include all plants, fungi, and other organisms that grow or live wild in an area without being introduced by humans.
Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems. Deserts, forests, rain forests, plains, grasslands, and other areas including the most developed urban sites, all have distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that much wildlife is affected by human activities.
Humans have historically tended to separate civilization from wildlife in a number of ways including the legal, social, and moral sense. Some animals, however, have adapted to suburban environments. This includes such animals as domesticated cats, dogs, mice, and gerbils. Some religions have often declared certain animals to be sacred, and in modern times concern for the natural environment has provoked activists to protest the exploitation of wildlife for human benefit or entertainment.

In the Okapi Wildlife Reserve in Democratic Republic of Congo, I had my first surprising Okapi encounter. The Okapi are tame, but very shy and suspicious, so I was a bit surprised by this.

Honorable Mention Winner in the 2013 UN Forum on Forests Short Film Festival. For the forest-dwelling Mbuti pygmies of Congo's Okapi Wildlife Reserve, all life is made possible by the rainforest. But after surviving for thousands of years in the forest, the Mbuti are now up against forces that threaten their way of life. War, resource exploitation, and waves of land-hungry migrants have seriously reduced and degraded the forest. The Tribal Trust Foundation seeks to help the Mbuti by creating awareness about the Mbuti's culture and the threats it faces.
What kind of animal is the okapi? Okapi Conservation Project The gentle, mysterious okapi appears to be half-zebra but is actually the closest relative of the giraffe. Okapis, the last major mammal discovered in Africa, live only in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country known as much for its political strife as for its incredible biodiversity. The people of the DRC have chosen the okapi as the symbol of their country’s wildlife. Its image is used in the logo of the ICCN, the Congolese Wildlife Authority. The Okapi Wildlife Reserve is a World Heritage site that is home to more than 3,000 okapi and hundreds of other species. Although it is a national treasure, the reserve and its okapis are threatened by the insecurity of the DRC. Slash and burn agriculture, illegal gold mining and ...

There are 47 Wild Animals in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Finding all of them unlocks the "Conservation" trophy / achievement. Before doing this you must fully upgrade the Capture Cage to grade 4! There are three ways to extract wild animals. The one you'll use the most is the capture cage. It randomly catches animals that live around the area where you placed the cage. The second tactic you'll use quite a bit is Fulton extracting them (for bigger animals). And the third option is to stun and pick up smaller animals that cannot be fulton extracted. The golden rule for capture cages: Place all 8 of them in a circle next to each other and immediately leave the area via helicopter. When you begin at the landing zone, always call back the helicopter right away so you don't have to wa...
Live Cinema Festival 2014, Rome, Italy FRIDAY 19 SEPTEMBER (streaming recording) http://livecinemafestival.com/2014-rome/artists/okapi/performances/opera-riparata-tribute-to-bruno-munari/ Opera Riparata (Fixed Opera) is a tribute to Bruno Munari and to his Broken Opera (created with Davide Mosconi). Starting from the original text written in 1989 by Munari and Mosconi, the musician Økapi and the visual artist More*Tv*V-Unz de-structure and re-compose 40 famous Operas, following the contemporary framework of digital remix (cutting, breaking down, juxtaposing and overlapping). While Munari and Mosconi’s monumental game/engine forecasted several performers and the whole scenic equipment, the Fixed Opera re-handles the same elements of the Opera language using only digital audio and visual in...
