Displaced.
Since 1994, the North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo has suffered under constant instability. Even thought the reasons for that instability may have varied, the local civilian populations have always been the ones who suffered.
Since 2007, with the fighting between CNDP rebels and the Congolese army starting again,800,00 persons were displaced.
They ran away from the atrocities that they endured in their villages and their homes (looting rapes, forced recruitment especially for children).
Being displaced, these people lost their food and seed supplies. They can no longer cultivate their fields, and meet their needs, especially for food.

Fighting between mutineers from the M23 rebel group and the FARDC (Congolese army) has caused population, the FARDC and their families to flee from their villages in North Kivu province.
As the fighting intensified, more and people have been fleeing toward Goma the capital of North Kivu.
UN peace-keepers from the Indian, Uruguayan and South Africa army have deployed to several towns and villages to protect the civilians. Last week, two Indian soldiers were killed in the cross fire between the rebels and the FARDC.
The rebels have been advancing on key towns within the province as a weak FARDC started fleeing the fighting.

Her goal is to witness the devastating impact of the recent fighting, which has let to an estimated 300,000 displaced people in the last three months. The total number of internally displaced is around one million, or 20 per cent of the entire North Kivu population.
I have come here to better understand how people are coping with this crisis and what needs to be done, Ms. Farrow said. Its comforting coming with NGOs UNICEF is here doing their level best to sustain people, and that gives you hope. Coming without them, you might be more depressed, because what can you do?

Goma - Democratic Republic of the Congo. On September 30 - 4 October, 2014, with the generous support of Irish Aid, 25 Congolese journalists were trained by MRG on how to report on indigenous groups. The training that took place in Goma - the capital of North Kivu Province, also saw the journalists visit a Bambuti community in Kingi, located in the dense forests. Kivu was the name for a large "Region" in the Democratic Republic of Congo under the rule of Mobutu Sese Seko that bordered Lake Kivu. It included three "Sub-Regions" ("Sous-Regions" in French): Nord-Kivu, Sud-Kivu and Maniema, corresponding to the three current provinces created in 1986. The capital of the Kivu Region was in Bukavu, and the capitals of the three Sub-Regions were in Goma, Uvira and Kindu.
Kivu is also the name for the entire region surrounding Lake Kivu, including the portions in Rwanda which contain the vast majority of the lake area's population (the contiguous towns of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo and Gisenyi, Rwanda, with a combined population approaching 1,000,000, form the largest urbanised area in the Lake Kivu area) . The area is characterized by lush vegetation and an extended growing season due in part to its high altitude (1500 m or 4900 ft at the lakeshore) and the volcanic nature of its soil. The Kivu region represents the high point of the East African Rift Valley.

North Kivu (Nord-Kivu in French) is a province bordering Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Its capital is Goma.
North Kivu borders the provinces of Orientale to the north and northwest, Maniema to the southwest, and South Kivu to the south. To the east it borders the countries of Uganda and Rwanda.
The province consists of three cities—Goma, Butembo and Beni—and six territories—Beni, Lubero, Masisi, Rutshuru, Nyiragongo and Walikale. The province is home to the Virunga National Park, a World Heritage Site containing the endangered Mountain Gorillas.
North Kivu was formerly a "sub-region" in the region of Kivu.
The region was the scene of much fighting during the Second Congo War (1998–2003), and the Kivu conflict (2004–present).

Fighting between mutineers from the M23 rebel group and the FARDC (Congolese army) has caused population, the FARDC and their families to flee from their villages in North Kivu province.
As the fighting intensified, more and people have been fleeing toward Goma the capital of North Kivu.
UN peace-keepers from the Indian, Uruguayan and South Africa army have deployed to several towns and villages to protect the civilians. Last week, two Indian soldiers were killed in the cross fire between the rebels and the FARDC.
The rebels have been advancing on key towns within the province as a weak FARDC started fleeing the fighting.

This is a very short chronicle of my recent 6 day media trip to Rwanda, courtesy RwandAir & the Rwandan Development Board (RDB), in which I went around the country and learned a lot about Rwandan Culture and Tourism. Rwanda has come a long way from its history of Genocide, turning what could have been the most crippling part of its' story into a triumphant one, with developments in Agriculture, Infrastructure, and of course, Tourism, which has become a big revenue source for the nation.
