"THE THREE VILLAGES" (2) - ATTARD
"The Three Villages" in Malta are made up of Lija, Attard and Balzan. This photo-video looks at Attard's places of interest.
Onf of them is Ta' Qali which used to be a military aerodrome and a station for the RAF shortly after WWII.
Today, Ta' Qali is renowned for its recreational area, including sports and motor racing venue, whilst Ta' Qali Crafts Village is located within the old RAF barracks, offering varieties of souvenirs & crafts.
An Aviation Museum is found near the National Stadium and Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre. In winter, a huge Sunday flea market is held at Ta' Qali.
Attard became a Parish in 1575 after it broke off from Birkirkara. By 1579, it had its first parish priest and the population then was 665 residents.
The Parish church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and was designed and built by Tommaso Dingli (1613-1616). A belfry was added in 1718 otherwise, the church is exactly what Dingli had built.
The titular statue of the Assumption of Mary was made in Paris in 1874.

One day visiting Mosta, Rabat, Mdina and Attard in Malta. Mosta has a very impressing dome. In Rabat on can visit the St. Paul's Grotto, the ww2 shelters, the catacombs and the Wignacourt Collegiate Museum. Mdina as a whole is a historic town. In Attard there is the San Anton Garden. Everything is very impressing. Malta is very rich in attractions.

A walk through the beautiful and historic San Anton Gardens
San Anton Palace is a palace located in Attard, Malta. It is the official residence of the President of Malta, and is surrounded by both private and public gardens.
The public gardens of San Anton, open to the public since 1882, are laid out in a formal manner, with graceful walkways, sculptures, ornamental ponds, families of ducks and swans, and a small aviary. They contain a large variety of trees and flowers from around the world, including a variety of palm trees, cypress, jacarandas, araucarias and other exotic plants, some of them over three centuries old. For many years it has been customary for visiting Heads of State to plant a tree in memory of their stay in Malta. The gardens also contain an orangery, and it was once the practice of incumbent Governors to give baskets of oranges grown in the palace gardens as gifts at Christmas time.
A number of significant annual events are held at San Anton Gardens, including the Malta Horticultural Show, and open-air theatre, dance and musical performances.

San Anton Gardens provide a shady spot in Attard surrounding the beautiful Presidential Palace.
The San Anton Gardens is located in Attard and is one of the most beautiful gardens in Malta with a large variety of beautiful flowers and plants.
This garden has been open to the public since 1882 and it was built by Grand Master Antoine de Paule to complement his summer residence, San Anton Palace, which today is the residence of the Maltese President.
The garden has several walkways that take you through the green gardens where you will discover fountains, ponds with families of ducks and several plants and flowers such as roses, Bougainvillea, Norfolk, Araucarias as well as other trees from all over the world some of them over three centuries old.
The San Anton Gardens are surrounded by walls giving the park a rustic and private atmosphere.

Attard (Maltese: Ħ'Attard) is a village at the centre point of the island of Malta. Together with Balzan and Lija it forms part of "the Three Villages" and has been inhabited since the Classical Period. It has a population of 10,134 as of March 2011. Attard's traditional Latin motto is Florigera rosis halo ("I perfume the air with my blossoms") due to its many flower gardens and citrus orchards. Attard is abundant with public gardens, including ornamental trees and flowers, maintained by the Local Council. The inhabitants of Attard are known as saraċini.
The name of 'Attard' is thought to have been derived from a surname. Maybe the first person who lived in the village was surnamed Attard. Nobody knows really what the word 'Attard' means. Some say it means blossoms as the word 'Attar' means fresh oil of the flowers.
As a municipality with its own local government structure since 1994, Attard covers a surface area of about seven square kilometers. Its population, including the modern estate of Misrah Kola and surrounding environs, is around 10,000. It comprises to its North, facing the city of Mdina, the flat expanse called Ta' Qali. Beneath it the area known as Ta' l-Idward joins with Misrah Kola, across from Wied San Martin (St Martin's Valley), Wied Inċita (Valley of Instigation) and Wied Irmiedi (Valley of Ashes), on the Żebbuġ side.

A walk through the beautiful and historic San Anton Gardens
San Anton Palace is a palace located in Attard, Malta. It is the official residence of the President of Malta, and is surrounded by both private and public gardens.
The public gardens of San Anton, open to the public since 1882, are laid out in a formal manner, with graceful walkways, sculptures, ornamental ponds, families of ducks and swans, and a small aviary. They contain a large variety of trees and flowers from around the world, including a variety of palm trees, cypress, jacarandas, araucarias and other exotic plants, some of them over three centuries old. For many years it has been customary for visiting Heads of State to plant a tree in memory of their stay in Malta. The gardens also contain an orangery, and it was once the practice of incumbent Governors to give baskets of oranges grown in the palace gardens as gifts at Christmas time.
A number of significant annual events are held at San Anton Gardens, including the Malta Horticultural Show, and open-air theatre, dance and musical performances.
