Several historical bridges named London Bridge have spanned the River Thames between the City of London and Southwark, in central London. The current crossing, which opened to traffic in 1974, is a box girder bridge built from concrete and steel. This replaced a 19th-century stone-arched bridge, which in turn superseded a 600-year-old medieval structure. This was preceded by a succession of timber bridges, the first built by the Roman founders of London.
The current bridge stands at the western end of the Pool of London but is positioned 30 metres (98 ft) upstream from previous alignments. The traditional ends of the medieval bridge were marked by St Magnus-the-Martyr on the northern bank and Southwark Cathedral on the southern shore. Until Putney Bridge opened in 1729, London Bridge was the only road-crossing of the Thames downstream of Kingston-upon-Thames. Its importance has been the subject of popular culture throughout the ages such as in the nursery rhyme "London Bridge Is Falling Down" and its inclusion within art and literature.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Is this one fake, hoax? ISIS? PREDICTIVE PROGRAMMING Witnesses have said that armed officers are understood to be at the scene after a white van mounted the pavement before driving into people. The Metropolitan Police say they are dealing with an incident on the bridge. Transport for London said the bridge has been closed in both directions due to a "major police incident". Bus routes were being diverted. BBC reporter Holly Jones, who was on the bridge at the time of the incident, said the van was driven by a man and was "probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour". About five people were being treated for injuries after the vehicle mounted the pavement and hit them, she said. Time - 16:30 to 18:20 The evening rush hour at London Bridge, a request made by someone and I visit London Bridge in the afternoon. Also, the previous morning stay featured only Southeastern trains so this time it features Southern trains only (aside from a pair of Thameslink 377s on two Thameslink services). Since hardly any Thameslink services are not included and not for a while, I will visit London Bridge again to feature them. (Do not worry!) Also due to delays and congestion outside the station, I had to miss the Eastbourne 442s which I found out later was 20 minutes late. 442401 and 442424 are featured working the 17:57 to Brighton and they make some noise with those ex-4-REP motors!
Travel video about destination Tower of London & tower Bridge in England. The Tower Of London is the home of the Crown Jewels and one of the many historical sights of the United Kingdom’s capital city. Just as with the British Empire, the Tower has a colourful and dramatic past and it was originally designed as a fortress by William The Conqueror. Not far from the Tower’s original main entrance prisoners were taken through Traitors’ Gate into the notorious dungeons. In1843 the moat dried up but the old fortress and its towers have survived to the present day. It must have been a terrifying experience to be imprisoned there and few prisoners lived to tell the tale of the rigours of the Tower. Many members of the English royal family were executed in the Tower but there were times when offici...

"London Bridge Is Falling Down" (also known as "My Fair Lady" or simply "London Bridge") is a traditional English nursery rhyme and singing game, which is found in different versions all over the world. It deals with the depredations of London Bridge and attempts, realistic or fanciful, to repair it. It may date back to bridge rhymes and games of the late Middle Ages, but the earliest records of the rhyme in English are from the seventeenth century. The lyrics were first printed in close to its modern form in the mid-eighteenth century and became popular, particularly in Britain and the United States in the nineteenth century. I have decided to try out the London Gatwick Airport for once, so I got there by train from Central London. I took the 08:52 Southern Trains service from London Bridge, which only cost £9.50. This has got to be the cheapest way to get to Gatwick during peak times, since it costs £19.80 to use the Gatwick Express and the Oyster Pay as You Go Fare costs £14.20. I have taken a video of the entire train journey for your interest. The stations stopped at along the way are as follows, along with their timestamps: New Cross Gate (5:48) Norwood Junction (8:29) East Croydon (23:03) Purley (30:00) Coulsdon South (33:07) Merstham (38:09) Redhill (42:14) Earlswood (45:30) Salfords (48:51) Horley (52:30) Gatwick Airport (54:56) Please note that certain stations have short platforms. On June 3rd, 2017, London Metropolitan Police responded to reports of a white van mounting the pavement and plowing through a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge. The van then continued from London Bridge to nearby Borough Market where three terrorists exited the vehicle and began stabbing civilians with what were described “12-inch butcher knives.” The three attackers were shot and killed by police within eight minutes of the first call, seven innocent people died at the scene of the attack and another 48 injured were taken to five different hospitals. With the recent attacks in Westminster and Manchester, this incident marked the third major United Kingdom terrorist attack in less than three months.
