A wife is a female partner in a marital relationship. The rights and obligations of the wife regarding her spouse(s) and others, and her status in the community and in law, varies between cultures and has varied over time.
The word is of Germanic origin, from Proto-Germanic *wībam, "woman". In Middle English it had the form wif, and in Old English wīf, "woman or wife". It is related to Modern German Weib (woman, female), and may derive ultimately from the Indo-European root ghwībh- "shame; pudenda" (cf. Tocharian B kwīpe and Tocharian A kip, each meaning "female pudenda", with clear sexual overtones) The original meaning of "wife" as simply "woman", unconnected with marriage, is preserved in words like "midwife" and "fishwife".
The term "wife" seems to be a close term to bride, the latter is a female participant in a wedding ceremony, while a wife is a married woman after the wedding, during her marriage. Historically, her male partner was known as the bridegroom during the wedding, and within the marriage is called her husband. Traditionally, the bride or her family may have brought her husband a dowry, or the husband or his family may have needed to pay a bride price to the family of his bride, or both were exchanged between the families; the dowry not only supported the establishment of a household, but also served as a condition that if the husband committed grave offenses upon his wife, the dowry had to be returned to the wife or her family; for the time of the marriage, they were made inalienable by the husband. A former wife whose spouse is deceased is a widow, and may be left with a dower (often a third or a half of his estate[citation needed]) to support her as dowager. A wife may, in some cultures and times, share the title of her husband, without having gained that title by her own right.[citation needed]

Plot: A young couple on the brink of a happy life loses it all when her military husband is deployed and fails to return. Locked in the bittersweet torture of her last memory of him, she travels like a wraith through the land of the living, mourning her loss, waiting for the return of her love -- which will never come. Loneliness, grief, and denial coalesce into the urge to pour her soul onto paper, to write one final letter to the man who fills her dreams, echoes in her memory, and whose absence colors the landscape of her future in muted shades of gray. Directed by John C. Sheetz, Departure, is a story about the destructive power love can have on the person left behind.

This is your five minute call five minutes ladies and gentlemen thank you
Where's my lunch?
Where's my fucking lunch?
Big big tears
By the bright blue sea
As deep as forever
Oh Shirley, Shirley Valentine
If only mother found
What you found
I wouldn't be here, dreaming
Salutations dear listener
This is a comedy in three acts
Breakfast, lunch and tea
And they better not be late
Here he comes
Through the bordello doors
I kowtow to my pimp
I'm a good little whore
Hello wall
Nice to see you wall
Good day at the office wall
Your dinner's on the floor darling
And scrape me off the ceiling
Well I'm a mercenary wife
Where it complies
I compromise
I only wear this skin
'Cos I sinned in m'past life
I want war
And you want me
I want war
And you want breakfast, lunch and tea
On stage please, on stage, thank you.
Sweat drips off my brow
I know my lines, my moves
My place in life
And it's ticking away
I'm not going on tonight
That insecure feeling
A void of nothing-ness
I'm dripping away
Well I'm a mercenary wife
I want what money buys
I only wear this skin
Cos I sinned in m'past life
I want war
And you want me
I want war
