• New Video | Job Fair Attracts Aspiring Women

      Over 20,000 young women and men participated in a mega job fair held in Maharashtra which brought together private sector companies, vocational training providers and government with aspiring candidates in the Amravati region of the state. The event was organized by the Government of Maharashtra's Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to raise awareness about various skilling initiatives that young people could avail of to improve their job prospects. UNDP supported the event as part of its Disha project, to ensure the job fair was women-friendly, with priority given to women aspirants, and women career counsellors who could address the specific issues faced by women in the job market.

      In May 2016, the National Mission for Clean Ganga, India’s Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, and the Jharkhand state government announced a partnership to rejuvenate the Ganga through improved sanitation and sustainable livelihoods. The partnership is supported by the United Nations Development Programme.

      System of Rice Intensification technology, introduced by UNDP and Government of Maharashtra, has affected an increase of rice yield per gram by nearly 40-80 percent while reducing the need for irrigation by up to 40 percent. The farming technology is also increasing family incomes from INR 20,000 to 70,000 per season.

    • Women Farmers Combat Land Degradation in Nagaland

      A UNDP partnership with the government of Nagaland has reduced soil erosion and increased vegetation cover on 30,000 hectares of land in 70 villages. The partnership in the North Eastern Himalayan state has empowered 7,000 women farmers to adopt farming practices that can protect soil fertility, diversify livelihoods and strengthened market linkages.
