As part of the UK Amateur Radio Foundation syllabus, candidates are required to demonstrate that they can use a VHF/UHF transceiver, and then make a short QSO. Here's an example of the Foundation VHF QSO practical in action. More at www.essexham.co.uk/train
CX4BW in Montevideo, Uraguay in SSB DX QSOs with stations in North America during an opening on the 15 Meters Ham Radio band. CX4BW was checking propagation on 15 Meters in preparation for the 2010 CQWW SSB contest. These DX QSOs were recorded at ham radio station WE5I with a Yaesu FT-950 transceiver and a Hustler 4BTV vertical antenna. The distance from WE5I to CX4BW is approximately 5550 miles.
Had a nice QSO on 80m SSB with KF5WJB. QSO starts at approximately 3:20. Before that I'm just calling CQ! Was using this to test the YouTube Hangouts on the Air streaming function... I'm a fan! Notes: -This is captured using the AF out on my Yaesu FT2K - Early in the video, I'm using the 2200hz transmit bandwith setting, which you'll hear in the narrow representation of my voice - At approximately 1:50 in the video I change the transmit bandwidth to the 2900hz setting and then down to the 2800hz setting for the rest of the video which you'll hear in the richer audio
This is a demonstration of a basic QSO or conversation using Morse code. Joe (N3HEE) is a Morse code instructor for CWops CW Academy. http://www.cwops.org/cwacademy.html Joe also maintains his own Morse code learning web site at www.morsecodemasters.com
Links below for gear and associated websites. Another fun day with the 10-meter band! I made my first contact with Japan. I heard a lot of activity on 10 meters with Jamaica and South America. I was not able to break thru the pile ups with my 100 watts and Buddistick. Hard to compete with big quad beams and linear amplifiers, however, I heard a HAM in Japan calling CQ while tuning up and down the band. I quickly answered back and was rewarded with a nice QSO. I am running a Yaesu 857-D at 100watts barefoot into a Buddistick supported by a Buddipole Mast & Tripod on my front porch . . . so nothing special or fancy but a ton of fun! For those of us who have been licensed radio amateurs for a while, making a CQ call comes completely natural. However, if you are new to amateur radio then it can be quite daunting when it comes to making your first CQ call. I have made a short video which shows you how to locate a clear frequency and put out a simple CQ call.
