The moons of Saturn are numerous and diverse, ranging from tiny moonlets less than 1 kilometer across to the enormous Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury. Saturn has 62 moons with confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50 kilometers. Seven Saturnian moons are large enough to be ellipsoidal in shape, though only two of those, Titan and Rhea, are currently in hydrostatic equilibrium, as well as dense rings with complex orbital motions of their own. Particularly notable among Saturn's moons are Titan, the second-largest moon (after Jupiter's Ganymede) in the Solar System, with a nitrogen-rich Earth-like atmosphere and a landscape including hydrocarbon lakes and dry river networks; and Enceladus, which is seemingly similar in chemical makeup to comets, emits jets of gas and dust and may harbor liquid water under its south pole region.
Twenty-four of Saturn's moons are regular satellites; they have prograde orbits not greatly inclined to Saturn's equatorial plane. They include the seven major satellites, four small moons that exist in a trojan orbit with larger moons, two mutually co-orbital moons and two moons that act as shepherds of Saturn's F Ring. Two other known regular satellites orbit within gaps in Saturn's rings. The relatively large Hyperion is locked in a resonance with Titan. The remaining regular moons orbit near the outer edge of the A Ring, within G Ring and between the major moons Mimas and Enceladus. The regular satellites are traditionally named after Titans and Titanesses or other figures associated with the mythological Saturn.

NASA Cassini spacecraft's radar 'peeled back' the haze the envelops the moon to reveal a dark area named 'Shangr-la,' which includes sand dunes. The probe has "shown that dunes of this sort encircle most of Titan's equator," according to NASA's Jet Propulsion laboratory.
NASA's Cassini spacecraft has radar vision that allows it to peer through the haze that surrounds Saturn's largest moon, Titan. This video focuses on Shangri-la, a large, dark area on Titan filled with dunes. The long, linear dunes are thought to be comprised of grains derived from hydrocarbons that have settled out of Titan's atmosphere. Cassini has shown that dunes of this sort encircle most of Titan's equator. Scientists can use the dunes to learn about winds, the sands they're composed of, and highs and lows in the landscape. The radar image was obtained by the Cassini Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR) on July 25, 2016, during the mission's 122nd targeted Titan encounter. In part 1 of this new THORnews series I let the experts from NASA give us all the major clues we need to know to determine that there is in fact some form of life on Saturn's moon Titan. Are they humans? Are they Dinosaurs? Are they microbes? Or are they other? We don't know, but with all the lakes & liquids & volcanoes on the Moon & its internal heating & the external heating of Saturn, I'm pretty sure there is some form of life. One thing is Certain, Titan is way more interesting than Mars. God bless everyone, T @newTHOR on twitter https://www.facebook.com/thornewsgo
One day it will be an amazing scientific accomplishment when we colonize and bring life to a moon like Saturn's icy Enceladus. Subscribe for new videos weekly! 5. Triton Photographs and data sent back from the Voyager 2 spacecraft back in August of 1989 showed that the surface of Triton, Neptune’s largest moon, was made up of nitrogen ice and rock. The suspicion of liquid water being hidden beneath the surface was raised. Even though the moon has an atmosphere, it would be pretty much the same as if it didn’t have one because of how thin it is. The average temperature on the moon is an unbelievable -391 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the coldest body in the entirety of our solar system. 4. Mimas Also known as the “Death Star” moon and for good reason. Mimas is one of Saturn’s icy and ...
Launched three years before the new century... a spacecraft wound its way through the empty reaches of the solar system. On Earth, its progress was little noted, as it swung twice by the planet Venus, then our moon. And Earth. The asteroid belt. And Jupiter. Almost seven years later, on the first of July 2004, the Cassini probe entered the orbit of Saturn. It then began to compile what has become one of the greatest photographic collections of all time, of a giant gas planet, surrounded by colorful rings, guarded by a diverse collection of moons, and millions of tiny moonlets. Within this record, is a trail of clues... pointing to the energy sources and complex chemistry needed to spawn life. What are these mysterious worlds telling us about the universe, and Earth? In the outer reach...

Dr Courtney Brown, founder of the Farsight Institute works with a team of elite Remote Viewers. Dr Brown himself is an expert at remote viewing and in this over hour and a half interview, we will be discussing Superstructures and the Aliens that built them on Iapetus. A Moon that orbits the Outer Rings of Saturn. The information Dr Brown and his team uncover is nothing short of astonishing. Who knew hundreds of thousands of years ago Beautiful resorts were built across the solar system for the select aristocratic class to enjoy.
Hello and welcome to What Da Math. This is a somewhat long video of a potential terraforming project of Titan - the 2nd biggest moon in the Solar System orbiting around Saturn. We are also going to take a look at and discuss other major satellites of Saturn including Mimas, Rhea, Enceladus, Dione, Tethys and Iapetus Get the game here: http://universesandbox.com/ Thank you and please SUBSCRIBE Join me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/WhatDaMath
March 9, 2011 Dr. Chris McKay (NASA Ames Research Center) Titan, Saturn's largest satellite, is the only moon with a thick atmosphere. In many ways, Titan is a cold twin of the Earth, with liquid methane playing the same role there as water plays on our planet. Life on Earth is based on liquid water; could there be life on Titan based on liquid methane? Dr. McKay (co-investigator on the Huygens probe that landed on Titan) discusses the new picture we have of this alien world, with its lakes, its rivers, and its rocks made of water ice.
Saturn is the most beautiful planet in our Solar System. Famous for its bright yet ethereal rings, the gas giant has over sixty natural satellites in orbit around it -- and one artificial satellite: NASA's Cassini spacecraft, which provides many of the results and images that will be showcased in this talk. We shall explore the weather observed in the atmosphere of Saturn, the curious structures that develop within the rings, and its wide variety of moons -- from smog-shrouded Titan, two-sided Iapetus, to busy Prometheus, and the icy plumes erupting from frozen Enceladus. The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/a-voyage-round-saturn-its-rings-and-moons Gresham College has bee...
