My First Cutaway. During deployment I became unstable, and like an idiot thought I could make it work instead of getting back stable. My Epicene did great and gave me plenty of time to deal with the line twist. I just couldn't kick out. Thanks to Eddie Jeffries for the life save haha. We were able to recover my canopy a few hours later.
My first Cutaway Situation and lessons learned: After an uneventfull freefall, I pulled a bit lower than usual out of separation considerations. Should have pulled earlier! The main intitially came out normally but quickly evolved into a line twist situation and a spiral dive. I attempted to clear the twists but lost altitude awareness for a few seconds. Realising I was too low, I initiated emergency procedures at 550m (~1700 feet ) and the reserve was out by 400m (~1300 feet ) but it it came out twisted as well. I cleared the twists by 300m (1000 feet) and was able to land safely a bit outisde the airfield. First, I pulled lower than I should have. Second, I should have initiated emergency procedures much earlier, instead of trying to clear a worsening spiral dive situtation which b...
http://www.iLoveSkydiving.org is the #1 source for skydiving & BASE videos. _______________ If you can land safely after a cutaway that involves your reserve getting entangled with your main canopy and lines flying everywhere, I’d say that’s a good reason to crack a beer, change your underwear and call it a day. This mess happened to my friend (aptly nicknamed) Mali. Not only did her reserve entangle with the main canopy, but once the reserve finally inflated, it was also entangled with her camera helmet. The helmet cutaway system didn’t work as advertised, but she managed to release the helmet with the ratchets. The helmet remained caught on her lines and she landed on rear risers. Lost her GoPro, retrieved her main canopy from the lake, and luckily had another camera to capture this inte...
I honestly can't really believe I am ok after this; probably should be dead! Anyway, that didn't happen so you guys can at least laugh at me and talk shit, which is almost more fun. Anyway, stupid shit like this shouldn't happen with proper planning. I was being dumb for sure, mega fail points. However, this does have relevance to the base and skydiving communities. This accident was entirely my fault (most likely do to lack of gear maintenence), and I am lucky that there were a couple things that saved me. My slider held my cutaway riser, which held tension in my lines to give me 3 inflated cells to land under, as well as being able to see and brace for landing on the soft hill side seconds before impact. We learned a few things from this incident. After an accident, if you are goin...
4 Way team 'The Bombdigity' on a training jump at Australian Skydive, Bridgewater, when on exit Phil's cutaway handle somehow dislodged and flew off into the blue.
Tired, again
It's been a long day working, thinking
Just a servant of society
Stuck in paradise
And I'm trying hard to
See the brighter side of this
But serving all these idiots
It's hard to say that it's the best that I'll find
I gotta get out of this place
I don't wanna be here forever
I won't let it be my true fait
There has to be something better
Now I just gotta survive
Gotta keep food on the table
Gotta keep going nine to five
Holding on until I'm able to
Escape, Escape, holding onto this
Faint hope that this will not be it
I know a better life exists
Out there, somewhere one day I'll find
Escape, Escape, ignorance is bliss
Eyes open so it won't be missed
Don't know if I can handle this
Another day in this paradise of (mine)
Mine but, how much
Longer will I have to do this
This routine is getting old
One more hour till I get to go
Stuck in this cycle it seems
One day I'll finally be free
From this American dream
And I will live to see my
Escape, Escape, holding onto this
Faint hope that this will not be it
I know a better life exists
Out there, somewhere one day I'll find
Escape, Escape, ignorance is bliss
Eyes open so it won't be missed
Don't know if I can handle this
Another day in this paradise of mine
(Another day, it's all the same, again)
And everyday it's all the same
(Not stuck in this place, I can get out alive)
Expendable pawns in this game
(I gotta get out, I just gotta try this time)
And am I really the one to blame
(won't take me alive, I will survive this life)
I just wanna get out right now
Escape, Escape, won't give up this fight
I will not settle for this life
I'll make a dream out of my time
And I'll be free
Escape, Escape, holding onto this
Faint hope that this will not be it
I know a better life exists
Out there, somewhere one day I'll find
Escape, Escape, ignorance is bliss
Eyes open so it won't be missed
Don't know if I can handle this
Another day in this paradise of
(How much more of this can I take?
But it will get better I think)
Escape, Escape, won't give up this fight
I will not settle for this life
I'll make a dream out of my time
And I will finally be free
(This will not be the end of me
