Otto Hahn,(8 March 1879 – 28 July 1968) was a German chemist and pioneer in the fields of radioactivity and radiochemistry who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery of nuclear fission. He is regarded as one of the most significant chemists of all time and especially as "the father of nuclear chemistry"
In nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry, nuclear fission is either a nuclear reaction or a radioactive decay process in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts (lighter nuclei). The fission process often produces free neutrons and photons (in the form of gamma rays), and releases a very large amount of energy even by the energetic standards of radioactive decay.
Nuclear fission of heavy elements was discovered on December 17, 1938 by German Otto Hahn and his assistant Fritz Strassmann, and explained theoretically in January 1939 by Lise Meitner and her nephew Otto Robert Frisch. Frisch named the process by analogy with biological fission of living cells. It is an exothermic reaction which can release large amounts of energy both as electromagnetic radiation and as kinetic energy of the fragments (heating the bulk material where fission takes place). In order for fission to produce energy, the total binding energy of the resulting elements must be less negative (higher energy) than that of the starting element.

A HIDDEN STORY OF SCIENCE, POLITICS AND WAR
Winston Churchill was a nuclear visionary, repeatedly warning before World War II that the nuclear age was imminent. Early in WWII, physicists in Britain showed that the Bomb could almost certainly be built. Prime Minister Churchill paid only fitful interest in the speculative weapon and the initiative soon passed to the US, which had the vast resources needed to realise the venture. British scientists played only a minor role in it. Churchill dismissed warnings from the Danish physicist Niels Bohr that Anglo-American nuclear policy would lead to an arms race. After the war, the US government declined to honour a personal agreement between Franklin Roosevelt and Churchill to share their countries’ nuclear research. After Churchill returned to power in 1951, during the Cold War, he became the first British leader to have nuclear weapons, and also commissioned the H-bomb. Appalled by the prospect of thermonuclear war, he ended his political career as pioneer of détente.

Churchill was interested in basic science – in 1926, he was captivated by atomic physics and chaired a talk seven years later on the epoch-making nuclear discoveries made at Ernest Rutherford’s Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge.

2. NUCLEAR VISIONARY
As a journalist in the 1920s and 1930s, Churchill wrote several widely-read articles speculating on the possibility of nuclear weapons and the prospect of nuclear power.

3. BRITISH FIRST TO SEE HOW TO MAKE THE BOMB
Shortly before Churchill became Prime Minister in May 1940, two ‘enemy aliens’ at Birmingham University – Otto Frisch and Rudi Peierls – the first understood how to make a nuclear weapon. British physicists developed their ideas, which were later fully realized in the Manhattan Project.

Jay Wechsler, who enlisted in the Army in 1943 and spent several months at Oak Ridge working as an Army construction engineer, was suddenly transferred to Los Alamos in the winter of '43 where he began working directly with Otto Frisch. Wechsler helped Frisch work on a large fission chamber that Frisch had originally designed in Denmark and later shipped to the United States. He recalls Frisch's brilliant intellect and knack for solving problems, and discusses their long-lasting friendship over the years. Wechsler also discusses his role as an explosives expert at Beta Site, testing what would later become the implosion system for the plutonium bomb. Wechsler also recounts details of Trinity Test and discusses his opinion on the use of the atomic bomb on Japan and the lasting impact of atomic weapons. After the war, Wechsler continued his weapons work for the government throughout the Cold War.

L' 8 ottobre alla Galleria Nazionale d'Arte moderna e contemporanea si inaugura la mostra di Shay Frisch campo 100535 B/N a cura di Achille Bonito Oliva.
La mostra sarà aperta al pubblico dal 9 ottobre 2012 al 27 gennaio 2013.
Il lavoro dell'artista israeliano consiste nella creazione di campi elettrici e nella loro interazione con lo spazio circostante. Il campo è generato dall'assemblaggio di moduli, conduttori di corrente elettrica, attraverso i quali passa l'energia che si fa "forma". Questi componenti industriali, che si trovano comunemente in commercio, mantengono all'interno una carica elettrica la cui perenne attività è rivelata da spie luminose.
Per l'occasione, al primo piano del museo l'artista presenta al pubblico un'installazione che si snoda all'interno di quattro sale.
Come scrive Achille Bonito Oliva: "Il sistema di più campi tesi fa vibrare un unico campo elettromagnetico che permea le sale della Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, che accolgono la mostra... si forma così nella prima sala una fascia nera continua, una superficie monocroma sotto cui cova l'elettricità, inizialmente senza lasciare sbocco e progressivamente con tagli, feritoie, squarci di luce in successione ravvicinata... Progressivamente l'idea di campo altera le diverse sale, cresce di misura dopo la prima e la seconda, per produrre nella terza una sorta di supernova, una esplosione di energia luminosa in un cosmo da camera con tagli orizzontali che rimandano alla lontananza dell'infinito. Nella quarta sala il campo si richiude su se stesso e avvolge lo spettatore, spostandolo nell'epicentro di un potente campo elettromagnetico...".

En física nuclear, la fisión es una reacción nuclear, lo que significa que tiene lugar en el núcleo atómico. La fisión ocurre cuando un núcleo pesado se divide en dos o más núcleos pequeños,
Los fisicos Enrico Fermi, Otto Hahn, Lita Meitner, Robert Frisch y Niels Bohr involucrados en el descubrimiento que puso en manos de la humanidad la mayor fuente de energia jamás conocida hasta entones. Su primera aplicacion llevará a la fabricación de bombas atómicas. A partir de entonces el potencial destructivo disponible amenaza por primera vez la supervivencia de la especie humana y la estabilidad del planeta.
Fermi observó varios de estos casos. Tras estudiarlos, tuvo por fuerza que preguntarse qué ocurriría al bombardear uranio con neutrones. Sus isótopos ¿aumentarían también en número atómico -en este caso de 92 a 93? En caso afirmativo la cosa se pondría muy interesante, porque el uranio tenía el número atómico más alto de toda la escala. Nadie había descubierto jamás ninguna muestra del elemento número 93, pero quizá pudiera uno formarlo en el laboratorio.
Entre aquellos que estaban trabajando en el problema figuraban Otto Hahn y su colaboradora Lise Meitner, una física austríaca. Uno de los portadores potenciales que añadieron al sistema era el elemento bario, que tiene un número atómico de 56; y comprobaron que una parte considerable de la radiactividad se la llevaba efectivamente consigo este elemento. La conclusión natural era que los isótopos que producían la radiactividad pertenecían a un elemento químicamente muy similar al bario. Las sospechas recayeron inmediatamente sobre el radio (número atómico 88), que, en lo referente a propiedades químicas, era realmente muy parecido al bario.
Meitner y su sobrino, Robert Otto Frisch, que se hallaba a la sazón en Copenhague (Dinamarca), escribieron un artículo en el que sugerían que era este proceso el que realmente estaba ocurriendo. El trabajo fue publicado en enero de 1939. Frisch se lo pasó al físico danés Niels Bohr, con quien estaba trabajando. (Albert) Einstein era el científico de más prestigio en aquel momento, y se pensó que una carta suya dirigida al Presidente de los Estados Unidos sería lo más persuasivo. Einstein firmó la carta, en la que se explicaba la posibilidad de fabricar una bomba atómica y se urgía a que los Estados Unidos no permitieran que un enemigo potencial se hiciera antes con ella. En gran parte como resultado de esta carta se reunió en los Estados Unidos un gigantesco equipo de investigación, al cual contribuyeron también otros países occidentales y con un solo objetivo: fabricar la bomba nuclear.
El Proyecto Manhattan fue el nombre en clave de un proyecto científico llevado a cabo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por los Estados Unidos con ayuda parcial del Reino Unido y Canadá. El objetivo final del proyecto era el desarrollo de la primera bomba atómica antes de que la Alemania nazi la consiguiera. La investigación científica fue dirigida por el físico Julius Robert Oppenheimer mientras que la seguridad y las operaciones militares corrían a cargo del general Leslie Richard Groves. El proyecto se llevó a cabo en numerosos centros de investigación siendo el más importante de ellos el Distrito de Ingeniería Manhattan situado en el lugar conocido actualmente como Laboratorio Nacional Los Álamos.
El primer ensayo atómico exitoso ocurrió en el desierto de Alamogordo, en Nuevo México el 16 de julio de 1945. El test se llamó Trinity y el dispositivo detonado se denominó con nombre en clave Gadget.

En física nuclear, la fisión es una reacción nuclear, lo que significa que tiene lugar en el núcleo atómico. La fisión ocurre cuando un núcleo pesado se divide en dos o más núcleos pequeños, Los fisicos Enrico Fermi, Otto Hahn, Lita Meitner, Robert Frisch y Niels Bohr involucrados en el descubrimiento que puso en manos de la humanidad la mayor fuente de energia jamás conocida hasta entones. Su primera aplicacion llevará a la fabricación de bombas atómicas. A partir de entonces el potencial destructivo disponible amenaza por primera vez la supervivencia de la especie humana y la estabilidad del planeta. Fermi observó varios de estos casos. Tras estudiarlos, tuvo por fuerza que preguntarse qué ocurriría al bombardear uranio con neutrones. Sus isótopos ¿aumentarían también en número atómico -en este caso de 92 a 93? En caso afirmativo la cosa se pondría muy interesante, porque el uranio tenía el número atómico más alto de toda la escala. Nadie había descubierto jamás ninguna muestra del elemento número 93, pero quizá pudiera uno formarlo en el laboratorio. Entre aquellos que estaban trabajando en el problema figuraban Otto Hahn y su colaboradora Lise Meitner, una física austríaca. Uno de los portadores potenciales que añadieron al sistema era el elemento bario, que tiene un número atómico de 56; y comprobaron que una parte considerable de la radiactividad se la llevaba efectivamente consigo este elemento. La conclusión natural era que los isótopos que producían la radiactividad pertenecían a un elemento químicamente muy similar al bario. Las sospechas recayeron inmediatamente sobre el radio (número atómico 88), que, en lo referente a propiedades químicas, era realmente muy parecido al bario. Meitner y su sobrino, Robert Otto Frisch, que se hallaba a la sazón en Copenhague (Dinamarca), escribieron un artículo en el que sugerían que era este proceso el que realmente estaba ocurriendo. El trabajo fue publicado en enero de 1939. Frisch se lo pasó al físico danés Niels Bohr, con quien estaba trabajando. (Albert) Einstein era el científico de más prestigio en aquel momento, y se pensó que una carta suya dirigida al Presidente de los Estados Unidos sería lo más persuasivo. Einstein firmó la carta, en la que se explicaba la posibilidad de fabricar una bomba atómica y se urgía a que los Estados Unidos no permitieran que un enemigo potencial se hiciera antes con ella. En gran parte como resultado de esta carta se reunió en los Estados Unidos un gigantesco equipo de investigación, al cual contribuyeron también otros países occidentales y con un solo objetivo: fabricar la bomba nuclear. El Proyecto Manhattan fue el nombre en clave de un proyecto científico llevado a cabo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por los Estados Unidos con ayuda parcial del Reino Unido y Canadá. El objetivo final del proyecto era el desarrollo de la primera bomba atómica antes de que la Alemania nazi la consiguiera. La investigación científica fue dirigida por el físico Julius Robert Oppenheimer mientras que la seguridad y las operaciones militares corrían a cargo del general Leslie Richard Groves. El proyecto se llevó a cabo en numerosos centros de investigación siendo el más importante de ellos el Distrito de Ingeniería Manhattan situado en el lugar conocido actualmente como Laboratorio Nacional Los Álamos. El primer ensayo atómico exitoso ocurrió en el desierto de Alamogordo, en Nuevo México el 16 de julio de 1945. Otto Hahn,(8 March 1879 – 28 July 1968) was a German chemist and pioneer in the fields of radioactivity and radiochemistry who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery of nuclear fission. He is regarded as one of the most significant chemists of all time and especially as "the father of nuclear chemistry"
In nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry, nuclear fission is either a nuclear reaction or a radioactive decay process in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts (lighter nuclei). The fission process often produces free neutrons and photons (in the form of gamma rays), and releases a very large amount of energy even by the energetic standards of radioactive decay.
Nuclear fission of heavy elements was discovered on December 17, 1938 by German Otto Hahn and his assistant Fritz Strassmann, and explained theoretically in January 1939 by Lise Meitner and her nephew Otto Robert Frisch. Frisch named the process by analogy with biological fission of living cells. It is an exothermic reaction which can release large amounts of energy both as electromagnetic radiation and as kinetic energy of the fragments (heating the bulk material where fission takes place). In order for fission to produce energy, the total binding energy of the resulting elements must be less negative (higher energy) than that of the starting element.

A HIDDEN STORY OF SCIENCE, POLITICS AND WAR
Winston Churchill was a nuclear visionary, repeatedly warning before World War II that the nuclear age was imminent. Early in WWII, physicists in Britain showed that the Bomb could almost certainly be built. Prime Minister Churchill paid only fitful interest in the speculative weapon and the initiative soon passed to the US, which had the vast resources needed to realise the venture. British scientists played only a minor role in it. Churchill dismissed warnings from the Danish physicist Niels Bohr that Anglo-American nuclear policy would lead to an arms race. After the war, the US government declined to honour a personal agreement between Franklin Roosevelt and Churchill to share their countries’ nuclear research. After Churchill returned to power in 1951, during the Cold War, he became the first British leader to have nuclear weapons, and also commissioned the H-bomb. Appalled by the prospect of thermonuclear war, he ended his political career as pioneer of détente.

Churchill was interested in basic science – in 1926, he was captivated by atomic physics and chaired a talk seven years later on the epoch-making nuclear discoveries made at Ernest Rutherford’s Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge.

3. BRITISH FIRST TO SEE HOW TO MAKE THE BOMB
Shortly before Churchill became Prime Minister in May 1940, two ‘enemy aliens’ at Birmingham University – Otto Frisch and Rudi Peierls – the first understood how to make a nuclear weapon. British physicists developed their ideas, which were later fully realized in the Manhattan Project.

Wechsler also discusses his role as an explosives expert at Beta Site, testing what would later become the implosion system for the plutonium bomb. Wechsler also recounts details of Trinity Test and discusses his opinion on the use of the atomic bomb on Japan and the lasting impact of atomic weapons. After the war, Wechsler continued his weapons work for the government throughout the Cold War.

L' 8 ottobre alla Galleria Nazionale d'Arte moderna e contemporanea si inaugura la mostra di Shay Frisch campo 100535 B/N a cura di Achille Bonito Oliva.
La mostra sarà aperta al pubblico dal 9 ottobre 2012 al 27 gennaio 2013.
Il lavoro dell'artista israeliano consiste nella creazione di campi elettrici e nella loro interazione con lo spazio circostante. Il campo è generato dall'assemblaggio di moduli, conduttori di corrente elettrica, attraverso i quali passa l'energia che si fa "forma". Questi componenti industriali, che si trovano comunemente in commercio, mantengono all'interno una carica elettrica la cui perenne attività è rivelata da spie luminose.
Per l'occasione, al primo piano del museo l'artista presenta al pubblico un'installazione che si snoda all'interno di quattro sale.
Come scrive Achille Bonito Oliva: "Il sistema di più campi tesi fa vibrare un unico campo elettromagnetico che permea le sale della Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, che accolgono la mostra... si forma così nella prima sala una fascia nera continua, una superficie monocroma sotto cui cova l'elettricità, inizialmente senza lasciare sbocco e progressivamente con tagli, feritoie, squarci di luce in successione ravvicinata... Progressivamente l'idea di campo altera le diverse sale, cresce di misura dopo la prima e la seconda, per produrre nella terza una sorta di supernova, una esplosione di energia luminosa in un cosmo da camera con tagli orizzontali che rimandano alla lontananza dell'infinito. Nella quarta sala il campo si richiude su se stesso e avvolge lo spettatore, spostandolo nell'epicentro di un potente campo elettromagnetico...".

Nadie había descubierto jamás ninguna muestra del elemento número 93, pero quizá pudiera uno formarlo en el laboratorio.
Entre aquellos que estaban trabajando en el problema figuraban Otto Hahn y su colaboradora Lise Meitner, una física austríaca. Uno de los portadores potenciales que añadieron al sistema era el elemento bario, que tiene un número atómico de 56; y comprobaron que una parte considerable de la radiactividad se la llevaba efectivamente consigo este elemento. La conclusión natural era que los isótopos que producían la radiactividad pertenecían a un elemento químicamente muy similar al bario. Las sospechas recayeron inmediatamente sobre el radio (número atómico 88), que, en lo referente a propiedades químicas, era realmente muy parecido al bario.
Meitner y su sobrino, Robert Otto Frisch, que se hallaba a la sazón en Copenhague (Dinamarca), escribieron un artículo en el que sugerían que era este proceso el que realmente estaba ocurriendo. El trabajo fue publicado en enero de 1939. Frisch se lo pasó al físico danés Niels Bohr, con quien estaba trabajando. (Albert) Einstein era el científico de más prestigio en aquel momento, y se pensó que una carta suya dirigida al Presidente de los Estados Unidos sería lo más persuasivo. Einstein firmó la carta, en la que se explicaba la posibilidad de fabricar una bomba atómica y se urgía a que los Estados Unidos no permitieran que un enemigo potencial se hiciera antes con ella. En gran parte como resultado de esta carta se reunió en los Estados Unidos un gigantesco equipo de investigación, al cual contribuyeron también otros países occidentales y con un solo objetivo: fabricar la bomba nuclear.

They send the results on to their physicist colleague Lise Meitner, who was in Sweden having escaped Nazi persecution. She and her visiting nephew, Copenhagen physicist Otto Frisch, quickly develop a physical model of the nucleus-splitting, or "fission", process and begin measuring it. Initial results are published in January 1939. Meitner and Frisch's interpretation appears in Nature in February.

EBR-I was not designed to produce electricity but to validate the breeder reactor concept.
On June 26, 1954, at Obninsk, Russia, the nuclear power plant APS-1 with a net electrical output of 5 MW was connected to the power grid, the world's first nuclear power plant that generated electricity for commercial use.
On August 27, 1956 the first commercial nuclear power plant, Calder Hall 1, England, with a net electrical output of 50 MW was connected to the national grid.
As of Jan 19, 2011 in 30 countries 442 nuclear power plant units with an installed electric net capacity of about 375 GW are in operation and 65 plants with an installed capacity of 63 GW are in 16 countries under construction.
As of end 2009 the total electricity production since 1951 amounts to 64,600 billion kWh. The cumulative operating experience amounted to 14,174 years by September 2010.

Apparently, by April 1945, House of Bernadotte had managed to produce Uranium-235 at the Halden Reactor in Norway, which Maria Quisling, Hauge & Co supplied to the Manhattan Project in exchange for 'Safe Haven' for Hitler (Ørland AB) and Jonas Lie (Bakehuset Ubåtbyen Bergen) -- Kriegsmarine U-234 departed Kristiansand for Japan on 15 April 1945, running submerged at snorkel depth for the first 16 days. The voyage proceeded without incident; the first sign that world affairs were overtaking the voyage was when the Kriegsmarine 's Goliath transmitter stopped transmitting, followed shortly after by the Nauen station. Fehler did not know it, but Germany's naval HQ had fallen into Allied hands.
Then, on 4 May, U-234 received a fragment of a broadcast from British and American radio stations announcing that Admiral Karl Dönitz had become Germany's head of state following the death of Adolf Hitler. U-234 surfaced on 10 May in the interests of better radio reception and received Dönitz's last order to the submarine force, ordering all U-boats to surface, hoist black flags and surrender to Allied forces. Fehler suspected a trick and managed to contact another U-boat (U-873), whose captain convinced him that the message was authentic.
Cargo
The cargo to be carried was determined by a special commission, the Marine Sonderdienst Ausland, established towards the end of 1944, at which time the submarine's officers were informed that they were to make a special voyage to Japan. When loading was completed, the submarine's officers estimated that they were carrying 240 tons of cargo plus sufficient diesel fuel and provisions for a six- to nine-month voyage.[4]
The cargo included technical drawings, examples of the newest electric torpedoes, one crated Me 262 jet aircraft, a Henschel Hs 293 glide bomb and what was listed on the US Unloading Manifest as 560 kg of uranium oxide. As evidenced by Hirschfeld and Brooks in the 1997 book Hirschfeld, Wolfgang Hirschfeld reportedly watched the loading into the boat's cylindrical mine shafts of about 50 lead cubes with 23 centimetres (9.1 in) sides, with "U-235" painted on each. According to cable messages sent from the dockyard, these containers held "U-powder". Author and historian Joseph M. Scalia, stated that he discovered a formerly secret cable at Portsmouth Navy Yard, the uranium oxide had been stored in gold-lined cylinders; this document is discussed in Hitler's Terror Weapons. The exact characteristics of the uranium remain unknown; it has been suggested by Scalia, and historians Carl Boyd and Akihiko Yoshida that it may not have been weapons-grade material and was instead intended for use as a catalyst in the production of synthetic methanol for aviation fuel.[5][6] When the cargo had been loaded, U-234 carried out additional trials near Kiel, then returned to the northern German city where her passengers came aboard.

Lise Meitner war Physikerin mit Leib und Seele, doch ihre Lebensumstände verwehrten ihr fast die verdiente Karriere. Als Frau und Jüdin musste sie um den Zugang zur Wissenschaft kämpfen. Dabei lieferte sie die Theorie zur Kernspaltung.
Ein ungewöhnlicher Wunsch für ein Mädchen, das 1878 in Wien geboren wird. Doch Lise Meitner, die aus einer jüdischen Familie stammt, kämpft um die Aufnahme in eine männliche Wissenschaftswelt. Sie studiert Mathematik, Physik und Philosophie in Wien. 1907 veröffentlicht sie Arbeiten über Alpha- und Betastrahlen und wechselt zu Max Planck nach Berlin. Auch dort wird sie zunächst mehr geduldet als gefördert. In Berlin beginnt ihre lange und erfolgreiche Arbeit mit dem Chemiker Otto Hahn. Dann kommt der 1. Weltkrieg und Lise Meitner geht als Röntgenschwester an die Front.
Nach ihrer Rückkehr setzt sie die Arbeit mit Hahn fort. Sie habilitiert in Wien, bekommt eine Professur in Berlin und etabliert sich als Expertin auf dem Gebiet der Strahlen- und Kernphysik. 1938, nach der Machtübernahme der Nazis und dem Anschluss Österreichs, muss Lise Meitner als Jüdin nach Schweden fliehen. Mit Otto Hahn und seinem Assistenten Straßmann verbindet sie weiterhin ein reger Briefwechsel. So schreibt ihr der Chemiker im Dezember 1938 auch von seinen Kernspaltungsversuchen mit Uran und Thorium, deren Ergebnisse er aber nicht interpretieren kann. Diese theoretische Deutung liefert ihm Lise Meitner, gemeinsam mit ihrem Neffen Otto Robert Frisch, per Post.
1944 erhält Otto Hahn den Nobelpreis für Chemie für die Entdeckung der Kernspaltung. Lise Meitner wird nicht einmal erwähnt. Erst später wird anerkannt, wie herausragend ihre wissenschaftlichen Leistungen waren.

Sie studiert Mathematik, Physik und Philosophie in Wien. 1907 veröffentlicht sie Arbeiten über Alpha- und Betastrahlen und wechselt zu Max Planck nach Berlin. Auch dort wird sie zunächst mehr geduldet als gefördert. In Berlin beginnt ihre lange und erfolgreiche Arbeit mit dem Chemiker Otto Hahn. Dann kommt der 1. Weltkrieg und Lise Meitner geht als Röntgenschwester an die Front.
Nach ihrer Rückkehr setzt sie die Arbeit mit Hahn fort. Sie habilitiert in Wien, bekommt eine Professur in Berlin und etabliert sich als Expertin auf dem Gebiet der Strahlen- und Kernphysik. 1938, nach der Machtübernahme der Nazis und dem Anschluss Österreichs, muss Lise Meitner als Jüdin nach Schweden fliehen. Mit Otto Hahn und seinem Assistenten Straßmann verbindet sie weiterhin ein reger Briefwechsel. So schreibt ihr der Chemiker im Dezember 1938 auch von seinen Kernspaltungsversuchen mit Uran und Thorium, deren Ergebnisse er aber nicht interpretieren kann. Diese theoretische Deutung liefert ihm Lise Meitner, gemeinsam mit ihrem Neffen Otto Robert Frisch, per Post.
1944 erhält Otto Hahn den Nobelpreis für Chemie für die Entdeckung der Kernspaltung. Lise Meitner wird nicht einmal erwähnt. Erst später wird anerkannt, wie herausragend ihre wissenschaftlichen Leistungen waren.

Bereits zum 14. mal finden auf Initiative des Hanseatischen Köcheclubs Wismarbucht die Wismarer Heringstage statt. Am 12. Juli 2014 folgten rund 200 Gäste der Einladung der Familie Almer zu einem besonderen Abend mit den d'Phi(e)lsaitig'n und ihren Freunden den Schachermuih-Musikanten. Im ausverkauften Stadl des Gasthauses Sterrer in Bachmanning wurde zu einem schmackhaften 3Gänge-Menü zünftige Wirtshausmusik auf Basis traditioneller Volksmusik dargebracht. Die Schachermuih-Musikanten hatten für ihre altbairische Wirtshausmusik vollste Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums. Ihre frechen Lieder und Münchner Couplets, die überwiegend aus eigener Feder stammen, begeisterten ebenso, wie der gemeinsame Instrumentalauftritt mit den Phi(e)lsaitig'n. Insgesamt ein kurzweiliger und unterhaltsamer Abend, der nach einer Wiederholung im nächsten Jahr ruft. -

Der Schriftsteller erinnert sich an das Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges. In einem Gespräch in Berzona im Jahr 1985 fragt Literaturredaktor Hans Ulrich Probst Max Frisch nach seinen Erlebnissen aus dieser Zeit. 1945 war der 34jährige Max Frisch Grenzsoldat. In den folgenden Monaten und Jahren gehörte er zu den ersten, die umfangreiche Reisen in die zerstörten Städte des Kontinents unternehmen konnten. Darüber hat er auch geschrieben. Die Zeugnisse dazu finden sich in seinem berühmten "Tagebuch 1946-1949".

Fermi observó varios de estos casos. Tras estudiarlos, tuvo por fuerza que preguntarse qué ocurriría al bombardear uranio con neutrones. Sus isótopos ¿aumentarían también en número atómico -en este caso de 92 a 93? En caso afirmativo la cosa se pondría muy interesante, porque el uranio tenía el número atómico más alto de toda la escala. Nadie había descubierto jamás ninguna muestra del elemento número 93, pero quizá pudiera uno formarlo en el laboratorio.
Entre aquellos que estaban trabajando en el problema figuraban Otto Hahn y su colaboradora Lise Meitner, una física austríaca. Uno de los portadores potenciales que añadieron al sistema era el elemento bario, que tiene un número atómico de 56; y comprobaron que una parte considerable de la radiactividad se la llevaba efectivamente consigo este elemento. La conclusión natural era que los isótopos que producían la radiactividad pertenecían a un elemento químicamente muy similar al bario. Las sospechas recayeron inmediatamente sobre el radio (número atómico 88), que, en lo referente a propiedades químicas, era realmente muy parecido al bario.
Meitner y su sobrino, Robert Otto Frisch, que se hallaba a la sazón en Copenhague (Dinamarca), escribieron un artículo en el que sugerían que era este proceso el que realmente estaba ocurriendo. El trabajo fue publicado en enero de 1939. Frisch se lo pasó al físico danés Niels Bohr, con quien estaba trabajando. (Albert) Einstein era el científico de más prestigio en aquel momento, y se pensó que una carta suya dirigida al Presidente de los Estados Unidos sería lo más persuasivo. Einstein firmó la carta, en la que se explicaba la posibilidad de fabricar una bomba atómica y se urgía a que los Estados Unidos no permitieran que un enemigo potencial se hiciera antes con ella. En gran parte como resultado de esta carta se reunió en los Estados Unidos un gigantesco equipo de investigación, al cual contribuyeron también otros países occidentales y con un solo objetivo: fabricar la bomba nuclear.
El Proyecto Manhattan fue el nombre en clave de un proyecto científico llevado a cabo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por los Estados Unidos con ayuda parcial del Reino Unido y Canadá. El objetivo final del proyecto era el desarrollo de la primera bomba atómica antes de que la Alemania nazi la consiguiera. La investigación científica fue dirigida por el físico Julius Robert Oppenheimer mientras que la seguridad y las operaciones militares corrían a cargo del general Leslie Richard Groves. Los fisicos Enrico Fermi, Otto Hahn, Lita Meitner, Robert Frisch y Niels Bohr involucrados en el descubrimiento que puso en manos de la humanidad la mayor fuente de energia jamás conocida hasta entones. Su primera aplicacion llevará a la fabricación de bombas atómicas. A partir de entonces el potencial destructivo disponible amenaza por primera vez la supervivencia de la especie humana y la estabilidad del planeta.
Fermi observó varios de estos casos. Tras estudiarlos, tuvo por fuerza que preguntarse qué ocurriría al bombardear uranio con neutrones. Sus isótopos ¿aumentarían también en número atómico -en este caso de 92 a 93? En caso afirmativo la cosa se pondría muy interesante, porque el uranio tenía el número atómico más alto de toda la escala. Nadie había descubierto jamás ninguna muestra del elemento número 93, pero quizá pudiera uno formarlo en el laboratorio.
Entre aquellos que estaban trabajando en el problema figuraban Otto Hahn y su colaboradora Lise Meitner, una física austríaca. Uno de los portadores potenciales que añadieron al sistema era el elemento bario, que tiene un número atómico de 56; y comprobaron que una parte considerable de la radiactividad se la llevaba efectivamente consigo este elemento. La conclusión natural era que los isótopos que producían la radiactividad pertenecían a un elemento químicamente muy similar al bario. Las sospechas recayeron inmediatamente sobre el radio (número atómico 88), que, en lo referente a propiedades químicas, era realmente muy parecido al bario.
Meitner y su sobrino, Robert Otto Frisch, que se hallaba a la sazón en Copenhague (Dinamarca), escribieron un artículo en el que sugerían que era este proceso el que realmente estaba ocurriendo. El trabajo fue publicado en enero de 1939. Frisch se lo pasó al físico danés Niels Bohr, con quien estaba trabajando. (Albert) Einstein era el científico de más prestigio en aquel momento, y se pensó que una carta suya dirigida al Presidente de los Estados Unidos sería lo más persuasivo. Einstein firmó la carta, en la que se explicaba la posibilidad de fabricar una bomba atómica y se urgía a que los Estados Unidos no permitieran que un enemigo potencial se hiciera antes con ella. En gran parte como resultado de esta carta se reunió en los Estados Unidos un gigantesco equipo de investigación, al cual contribuyeron también otros países occidentales y con un solo objetivo: fabricar la bomba nuclear.
El Proyecto Manhattan fue el nombre en clave de un proyecto científico llevado a cabo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por los Estados Unidos con ayuda parcial del Reino Unido y Canadá. El objetivo final del proyecto era el desarrollo de la primera bomba atómica antes de que la Alemania nazi la consiguiera. La investigación científica fue dirigida por el físico Julius Robert Oppenheimer mientras que la seguridad y las operaciones militares corrían a cargo del general Leslie Richard Groves. Wien ist eine der wenigen Millionenstädte, die über einen Nationalpark in der Stadt verfügen. Die Universum-Dokumentation "Wildnis am Strom - Nationalpark Donau-Auen" am Dienstag, den 14. September um 20.15 Uhr in ORF 2 zeigt die Vielfalt und den Artenreichtum dieses Lebensraum.
Über 2 Jahre lang haben Regisseur Franz Hafner und das Universum-Team die einzigartige Flussauenlandschaft des Nationalpark Donau-Auen dokumentiert. Bei jedem Wetter und zu jeder Jahreszeit waren sie unterwegs, um die Besonderheiten und die Dynamik der Natur zu erfassen.
Alles fließt, alle Dinge sind einem ständigem Wandel unterworfen. Das gilt besonders für die Auen entlang der Donau. Zerstörung und Aufbau, Werden und Vergehen sind unabdingbarer Bestandteil und Grundlage für diese Landschaft. Doch der Mensch hat die Kraft und Dynamik der Flüsse gebändigt und in Schranken gewiesen. Flüsse wurden verbaut, begradigt und die Gewässerdynamik zerstört.
Doch entlang der Donau, zwischen Wien und Bratislava, hat ein letztes Stückchen Au die Zeit überdauert. Dort kann die Kraft des Wassers auch heute noch neue Lebensräume gestalten: Hochwasser hinterlassen frisch angerissene Steilufer, Schotterbänke und Inseln wachsen aus dem Strom, Wälder werden abgetragen und entstehen von Neuem.
Diese natürliche Dynamik ist eine große Kostbarkeit, eine einzigartige Flussdynamik, wie sie sonst in Mitteleuropa nicht mehr zu finden ist. Die Donau-Auen östlich von Wien bergen die letzte Wildnis am Strom.
Seit 1996 ist diese außerordentliche Landschaft durch einen Nationalpark geschützt. Die Lebensader des Nationalparks ist die Donau. Auf über 36 km Länge kann sie hier noch frei fließen, neben der Wachau befindet sich hier die letzte freie Fließstrecke in Österreich.
Beeindruckend ist die Vielfalt an Lebensräumen und die außergewöhnliche Zahl der Tiere, die hier überleben können. Eisvögel brüten in den Steilufern, Flussregenpfeifer auf den Schotterbänken und Seeadler im Auwald. Die Altarme werden von Europäischen Sumpfschildkröten und Bibern besiedelt und im Unterholz ziehen Rothirsche ihre Jungen groß.
Die letzten Jahrhunderte hat sich aber am Fluss vieles verändert. Die Donau wurde begradigt, befestigt und viele Nebenarme vom Strom abgeschnitten. Es bestand und besteht die Gefahr, dass der Auwald austrocknet, die Altarme verlanden und die Au stirbt. Die Gewässerdynamik der Donau selbst aber ist erhalten geblieben und das ist die große Chance für das Schutzgebiet.
Seit der Gründung des Nationalparks wurde daher versucht, die Au wieder stärker an die Donau anzubinden: Ufer wurden rückgebaut, Altarme mit einander verbunden, Treppelwege gesenkt. Diese Maßnahmen zeigen Wirkung, und die Au ist wieder mit dem mächtigen Strom verbunden.
Der Film "Wildnis am Strom - Nationalpark Donau-Auen" berichtet von der neuen, alten Aulandschaft und vor allem vom steten Wandel, der allein das Überleben der Au ermöglicht.

Bereits zum 14. mal finden auf Initiative des Hanseatischen Köcheclubs Wismarbucht die Wismarer Heringstage statt. Kein anderer Fisch als der Hering hatte jemals eine solche wirtschaftliche Bedeutung als der Hering. Noch bis heute ist der Hering der bekannteste und am meisten verzehrte Speisefisch und in allen Meeren zu Hause. Der Ostseehering ist dabei der kleinste und zarteste und aüßerst wohlschmeckend.
Am 05.März 2016 um 10 Uhr begrüßte der Köcheclub die zahlreich erschienenen Einheimischen und Gäste am Alten Hafen zur Abholug des frisch angelandeten Herings. Danach ging es gemeinsam mit tatkräftiger Unterstützung von Landrätin Anne-Kathrin Werth und Senator Michael Berkhahn und musikalischer Begleitung durch das Blasorchester Dorf Mecklenburg, Richtung Marktplatz, wo dann die Heringstage von Michael Berkhahn offiziell eröffnet wurden. Der Shantychor " Blänke " aus Wismar unter der musikalischen Leitung von Peter Herchenbach begleitete danach eine Stunde die zahlreichen Gäste beim verspeisen der frisch gebratenen Heringe.

unser eigenes Transportunternehmen und schlüpfen in die Haut des Fahrers Otto,
welcher manchmal einen seiner zahlreichen Brüder zu Gast hat.
Wir schwingen uns also hinters Steuer, lauschen den Gitarrenriffs von „Radio CCC“
und starten unsere Tour. Mit jedem abgeschlossenen Auftrag erhalten wir unsere Bezahlung.
Diese haben wir auch dringend nötig, denn Unfälle sind hier keine Seltenheit.
Der LKW dankt einem dies unter anderem mit der berüchtigten Motorfehlfunktion. XD
Ebenso perfekt wie wir Einparken, fahren wir natürlich auch.
Denn genauso wie man immer alle anderen nicht fahren können außer man selbst,
hören auch ausnahmslos alle Trucker immer nur Country und Rock. ^^

Spore ist ein von Maxis entwickeltes Computerspiel nach einer Idee von Will Wright, dem Erfinder der Sims-Spiele. Ziel des Spiels ist es, eine Spezies in verschiedenen Phasen von einem einzelnen Einzeller bis zu hoch entwickelten Raumfahrern zu spielen. Man beginnt mit dem Einzellerstadium in einem Pac-Man-ähnlichen Spielprinzip in 2D. Am 12. Juli 2014 folgten rund 200 Gäste der Einladung der Familie Almer zu einem besonderen Abend mit den d'Phi(e)lsaitig'n und ihren Freunden den Schachermuih-Musikanten.
Im ausverkauften Stadl des Gasthauses Sterrer in Bachmanning wurde zu einem schmackhaften 3Gänge-Menü zünftige Wirtshausmusik auf Basis traditioneller Volksmusik dargebracht.
Die Schachermuih-Musikanten hatten für ihre altbairische Wirtshausmusik vollste Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums. Ihre frechen Lieder und Münchner Couplets, die überwiegend aus eigener Feder stammen, begeisterten ebenso, wie der gemeinsame Instrumentalauftritt mit den Phi(e)lsaitig'n.
Insgesamt ein kurzweiliger und unterhaltsamer Abend, der nach einer Wiederholung im nächsten Jahr ruft.
