The Clash were an English punk rock band that formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk. Along with punk, their music incorporated elements of reggae, dub, funk, ska and rockabilly. For most of their recording career the Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, lead vocals), Paul Simonon (bass guitar, vocals) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drums, percussion). Headon left the group in 1982, and internal friction led to Jones's departure the following year. The group continued with new members, but finally disbanded in early 1986.
The Clash achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom with the release of their debut album, The Clash, in 1977. Their third album, London Calling, released in the UK in December 1979, earned them popularity in the United States when it was released there the following month. It was declared the best album of the 1980s a decade later by Rolling Stone magazine. In 1982 they reached new heights of success with the release of Combat Rock, which spawned the US top 10 hit "Rock the Casbah", helping the album to achieve a 2× Platinum certification there. Their final album, Cut the Crap, was released in 1985.

A documentary film is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction or maintaining a historical record. Such films were originally shot on film stock—the only medium available—but now include video and digital productions that can be either direct-to-video, made into a TV show or released for screening in cinemas. "Documentary" has been described as a "filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception" that is continually evolving and is without clear boundaries.
In popular myth, the word documentary was coined by Scottish documentarian John Grierson in his review of Robert Flaherty's film Moana (1926), published in the New York Sun on 8 February 1926, written by "The Moviegoer" (a pen name for Grierson).
Grierson's principles of documentary were that cinema's potential for observing life could be exploited in a new art form; that the "original" actor and "original" scene are better guides than their fiction counterparts to interpreting the modern world; and that materials "thus taken from the raw" can be more real than the acted article. In this regard, Grierson's definition of documentary as "creative treatment of actuality" has gained some acceptance, with this position at variance with Soviet film-maker Dziga Vertov's provocation to present "life as it is" (that is, life filmed surreptitiously) and "life caught unawares" (life provoked or surprised by the camera).
An atom is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties of a chemical element. Every solid, liquid, gas, and plasma is composed of neutral or ionized atoms. Atoms are very small; typical sizes are around 100 pm (a ten-billionth of a meter, in the short scale). However, atoms do not have well-defined boundaries, and there are different ways to define their size that give different but close values.
Atoms are small enough that classical physics gives noticeably incorrect results. Through the development of physics, atomic models have incorporated quantum principles to better explain and predict the behavior.
Every atom is composed of a nucleus and one or more electrons bound to the nucleus. The nucleus is made of one or more protons and typically a similar number of neutrons (none in hydrogen-1). Protons and neutrons are called nucleons. More than 99.94% of an atom's mass is in the nucleus. The protons have a positive electric charge, the electrons have a negative electric charge, and the neutrons have no electric charge. If the number of protons and electrons are equal, that atom is electrically neutral. If an atom has more or fewer electrons than protons, then it has an overall negative or positive charge, respectively, and it is called an ion.

Music video by The Clash performing The Last Testament - The Making of London Calling. (C) 2009 Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited
Complete interview segment of the Clash backstage at the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto, Canada with the Undertones which was originally broadcast on CITY TV's New Music Program in 1979. The New Music was hosted by J.D. Roberts (aka CNN's John Roberts) and Jeanne Bekker (later host of Fashion Television). This clip includes the infamous concert aftermath with Cosmo Vinyl counting the ripped out seats at the venue. This rare interview was shown/re-broadcast during the Joe Strummer death coverage.
A Short Documentary about The Clash by Ian Rubbish (Fred Armisen). With Fred Armisen, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon.
The Clash, supposedly interviewed in New Zealand around February of 1982. This is possibly the last interview featuring Topper who leaves abruptly during the interview.
True story of the brutal clash between Hungary and USSR in the water polo pool at the 1956 Olympics. As the Soviet tanks were suppressing the peoples' uprising in Hungary, the Water Polo team decided to give the population something to cheer about by kicking the Soviets ass in the water polo pool. Narrated by Mark Spitz this wonderful film, with much archive footage, tells the story of that clash. It includes interviews with the surviving players and shows what the Hungarian people went through. The team gave the people at home the one thing that the USSR had tried to take away ..... HOPE. Everyone should see this film, not just sports buffs and I urge everyone, if they get the chance, to visit Budapest. Like a lot of Eastern Europe, it is a beautiful City and the people are most friendly....

At a recent event dedicated to Obey, David Gallardo was able to catch up with the world famous man behind the brand Shepard Fairey. While clothing is a rapidly expanding and still relatively new venture for Fairey, it seems he has a solid grasp creatively of where he thinks Obey is and where it ought to be. During the interview he offers up words of wisdom in that while all fashion designers look to one another for trends, at the end of the day collections are and should be filtered through ones own sensibilities. On a less philosophical note he discusses things like his love for food trucks and his perennial musical interest in the first Clash album, all of which contribute to a light-hearted yet insightful discussion. http://hypebeast.com/2012/01/agenda-a-conversation-with-shepard-faire...

The film features interviews and unseen footage from the Rock Against Racism movement of the 1970's including The Clash, X-Ray Spex, The Specials, Misty In Roots, and Sham 69. The documentary tracks the rise of racism and the National Front in Britain during the 70's and shows how a generation, black and white, fought back against the Nazi threat.

After the Occupy Wall Street movement made its way to Austin, I headed over to take photos and document the movement in a more obscure part of the country. While the majority of stories about the Occupy movement have focused on the people and police clashes, I found that the signs had the most to say, whereas a standard conversation with a protestor went something along the lines of: "It’s about standing up for our rights, making our voices, the 99% heard, for once...and...hey man, you got a cigarette?" That said, I ran into a man who summarized the Austin movement better than I could have imagined. His interview, paired with the photos of the demonstration, paint a tremendously incisive portrait of Occupy Austin.

In Between takes on a daring and controversial subject (even more so in the current electoral climate in Belgium): is a multicultural society something desirable – or even feasible? In Between is a portrait of multiculturalism in Flanders – possibly even in Europe. In doing so, it also gives us a look at the "clash of civilizations" the whole world seems to be grappling with today. Epicity Pictures uses a series of interviews to uncover questions about this issue. All sides of the issue are covered, the most moderate of which are Dirk Tieleman (Flemish television journalist and author) and the rap/hip-hop artist from the inner city in Ghent, Fatih. The movie's soundtrack is from Fatih's album "Contradictio In Terminis." // In Between is een film die het aandruft direct het meest contro...

As scientists delved deep into the atom, into the very heart of matter, they unravelled nature's most shocking secrets. I've tried and tried to run and hide
To find a life that's new
But wherever I go I always know
I can't escape from you
A jug of wine to numb my mind
But what good does it do?
The jug runs dry and still I cry
I can't escape from you
These wasted years are souvenirs
Of love I thought was true
Your memory is chained to me
I can't escape from you
There is no end, I can't pretend
That dreams will soon come true
A slave too long to a heart of stone
I can't escape from you
