Romance (love)

Romance is the expressive and pleasurable feeling from an emotional attraction towards another person often associated with sexual attraction. It is eros rather than agape, philia, or storge.

In the context of romantic love relationships, romance usually implies an expression of one's strong romantic love, or one's deep and strong emotional desires to connect with another person intimately or romantically. Historically, the term "romance" originates with the medieval ideal of chivalry as set out in its chivalric romance literature.

Humans have a natural inclination to form bonds with one another through social interactions, be it through verbal communication or nonverbal gestures.

General definitions

The debate over an exact definition of romantic love may be found in literature as well as in the works of psychologists, philosophers, biochemists and other professionals and specialists. Romantic love is a relative term, but generally accepted as a definition that distinguishes moments and situations within intimate relationships to an individual as contributing to a significant relationship connection.

John Coltrane

John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967), was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.

As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant saxophonists in music history. He received many posthumous awards and recognitions, including canonization by the African Orthodox Church as Saint John William Coltrane and a special Pulitzer Prize in 2007. His second wife was pianist Alice Coltrane and their son Ravi Coltrane is also a saxophonist.

Chuck Loeb

Chuck Loeb (born December 7, 1955 in Nyack, New York) is a guitarist who performs numerous styles of music, most notably jazz. His own solo projects have generally been commercially successful crossover jazz, such as "contemporary" or "smooth" jazz.

Background and career

Chuck Loeb was born Dec. 7 1955 in Nyack, New York, in the New York City region, where he was first introduced to music. He originally came from a musical background of pop and rock rather than jazz, listening to 1960s rock acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. According to a 2005 JazzTimes article, the first song he learned on the guitar was Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone which he would later play at a guest appearance with Dylan himself. It was until he was 16 years old that he discovered jazz and learning about artists such as Wes Montgomery, George Benson, John McLaughlin and Pat Martino. It was then that Loeb chose to become musician and "never thought of doing anything else".
