In April 2012, the then seventeen year old was driving her Mazda 3 in St. Michaels, Maryland when she decided to look down at a text message she received from her mother. Distracted by her phone, Liz did not realize that the tow truck in front of her had stopped with its left turn signal on. She crashed head on into the tow truck. 8: Katie Piper While not a total "accident", Katie Piper was left horrifically disfigured by an act of pure evil. The former television presenter was once a young woman who aspired to model and work a full-time media career. Katie lived an active social life online, and when approached on Facebook by a male fan, she was instantly attracted to him. Later on, the fan by the name of Daniel Lynch showed up at an event she was attending. The two exchanged phone numbers. The two seemed to hit it off, going on multiple dates and sharing affection for one another. But soon Katie started to pick up on signs that Lynch was less than desirable, and found out that he had a critical criminal history. She quickly decided to slow the relationship, and planned to break it off definitely. Thus began 7: Charla Nash Travis was a male chimpanzee who appeared regularly on American TV shows and commercials. He was owned by Sandra Herolds who raised him in her home in Connecticut. One day in 2009, Sandra's friend and employee Charla Nash came to visit. Then the unthinkable happened. The 200 pound chimp suddenly attacked Charla, mauling and ripping off her face in the process. He then went on to attack his owner, who had to call 911. When cops 6: Heldi Jaralomi Heldi was just a young girl from a small town in West Timor when her oil lamp exploded on her, causing extremely severe burns on her face and body. The then twelve year old was rushed to the local hospital with extensive third degree burns to 25 percent of her body, but was forced to leave after only two days due to her family’s state of poverty. With lack of proper medical care, her burns healed horribly, leaving her chin and lower lip shockingly 5: Lauren Scruggs Lauren Scruggs was a young model from Dallas, Texas whose career was on the up and up when a freak accident occurred. In December 2011, she took a short flight in a private two seater plane to see Christmas lights. After a smooth ride, Lauren stepped out and was instantly sucked into the plane's propeller. Witnesses recall seeing Lauren lying face down in a pool of blood 4: Daniel Pena Daniel Pena has very little recollection of his accident, but the disfigurement of his face reminds him each day of what he went through. Dreaming of owning a boat of their own, the avid fisherman and his wife saved up money for years, and finally bought a 30,000 dollar boat which he felt he was most comfortable with. In March 2016, Daniel went out on his new boat with his friend and two nephews. While cruising, the hydraulic line suddenly became loose, causing the boat to turn violently as Pena 3: Richard Lee Norris In a horrible shot-gun accident, twenty two year old Richard Lee Norris was left forever changed and disfigured. In 1997, Richard arrived home intoxicated and got caught up in an argument with his mother. Threatening to kill himself, he placed a shell in the chamber of a shotgun. That's when the weapon unexpectantly went off, shooting him in the face. Richard ended up with horrible disfigurements, losing his nose, mouth, and teeth. He had no sense of smell and was only able to taste with his partial tongue. He became a social recluse for fifteen years, hiding behind a mask and only going out at night. In 2012, at the age of 39, Richard became 2: Mitch Hunter Mitch Hunter was a twenty one year old, ex-US soldier who became terribly disfigured in a freak accident in 2001. The car he was riding smashed into a 10,000 volt utility pole full of electricity. Instead of saving himself, he immediately pushed the female passenger next to him out of the car. He then felt an intense surge of electricity pass through his feet all the way to his face. Within seconds 1: Zubaida Hasan Zubaida Hasan was a young girl living with her family in a tiny village in Afghanistan. One night in 2001, while carrying a kerosene lamp, the then 9 year old Zubaida tripped and caught herself on fire. The burns mutilated her body terribly, causing the lower half of her face to melt into her chest. She was unable to close her eyes and mouth, and her right arm was glued to her side, rendering it almost useless.
