Manipal: Personnel of Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) of Karnataka were given a first-aid training at a workshop conducted by Melaka Manipal Medical College, Manipal University, here on Thursday. In all, 80 police personnel were present in a first- of-its-kind association between the anti-naxal force, who work in extreme conditions combating naxal menace, and medical and para-medical staff for the day-long workshop.
They were provided hands-on training in job-related medical perils, including snake bite, heart attack, gunshot injury and basic life support, which would come in handy in their operations in rough and demanding terrain of Western Ghats.
Dr H Vinod Bhat, vice-chancellor, Manipal University, inaugurated the workshop. Annamalai K, superintendent of police, Udupi, was part of arranging the workshop.
Resource persons for programme included microbiologist Shobha K L, orthopaedic surgeon Suresh Shenoy, medicine specialist Seema Shetty and faculty members of Manipal College of Nursing. Vishnuvardhan, DySP, Udupi; Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, Manipal University; and Dr Annamma Kurien, associate dean, MMMC; were among those present.
