Ireland Trip:Dublin/Waterford/Cork

In Order of appearance: Dublin- we only stayed one night here (don’t worry we come back at the end) Blooms Hotel, Temple Bar- Besides the cool mural on the wall, the modern rooms, and extremely friendly staff, the location is in Temple Bar so you can walk to everything. The only bad thing about it were the loud doors that would slam shut in the morning waking us up. Vat House (http://vathouse.ie) (Bar attached to the Blooms Hotel)- You get a voucher for a free (half pint) Guinness when you stay at the Blooms so we (eventually) took advantage of this. The beer flights feature big glasses filled with Irish staple beers along with a few craft beers, you’ll need to venture further to find more of Ireland’s craft beer. We ate some killer Irish Oysters; Kyle doesn’t usually like Oysters but really enjoyed these. Johnstown Castle in Wexford (http://www.irishagrimuseum.ie/johnstown-castle-gardens/)- We decided to checkout our first castle on the way to Waterford. If you use your GPS, you’ll probably end up going in the wrong way (like we did), but everyone is very friendly in Ireland so don’t worry. You aren’t allowed to enter the castle but the grounds are very pretty. As a bonus we were visited by an extremely friendly (must be Irish) peacock. Oskars in Waterford (http://www.oskars.ie)- We met up with Kieth the manager here and talked beer. They have a cool wall of beer so we asked if we could add an American to it: Dogfish Punk’n (one of our favorite pumpkin ales). Eight Degrees Brewing in Michelstown (http://www.eightdegrees.ie)- They do not currently offer public tours so don’t show up here unannounced! This is were we hooked up with Caroline Hennessy for our Irish Craft Beer interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX6K1PHh0Xw). Caroline showed us the facility where they brew and introduced to us to her Husband Scott(one of the owners and brewers). Then we saw the new building which they hope to move into soon. Great beers coming out of this place! Tullys in Waterford (https://twitter.com/tullyswaterford)- We head back to Waterford in search for Tullys. This is a great bar for the beer lover! They have a good selection, but what makes it great is the friendly staff that will talk beer with you all day. We met Geraldine and Billy and they couldn’t have been more welcoming. We also took advantage of the nice weather in their outdoor beer garden area. Now just to clarify: Kyle was drinking the Yankee White IPA by Rascal’s Brewing Co (http://rascalsbrewing.com) and Shirley was drinking Bohemian Barefoot from Eight Degrees (http://www.eightdegrees.ie) and then we started to speak about Eight Degrees when she says “Amazing people” not that the people at Rascal’s aren’t amazing we just didn’t get to meet them. Rock of Cashel in Cashel (http://cashel.ie)- We got here too late to actually get to explore it but I would highly recommend a visit it you can. There is so much history here. Anyways we snuck over the fence (don’t tell anyone) and took some beautiful pictures while some drunk teens walked past us. Cork- We stayed here two nights an loved it. You can get great food as long as you do it before 10pm!!! The beer scene is great too if you know where to look. Bodega at St. Peter’s Market in Cork (http://www.bodegacork.ie)- We at some greta food here and drank some beers from the Rising Sons Brew pUb across the street. Friendly staff, cool interior, nice place to eat. Rising Sons Brewpub (https://www.facebook.com/RisingSONSbrewery/)- This place was cool even though they make their own beer they feature other breweries on their tap. They have big screen to watch the game and a nice selection of beers on tap. Bierhouse in Cork (http://thebierhauscork.com) This place was awesome, it reminded me a lot of Blind Tiger NYC (http://www.blindtigeralehouse.com). The beers seemed endless, if you want to try Irish or English beers, or if you want to stay American, come here!
