NBC has learned the man behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler that led authorities on a pursuit through several North Texas counties Wednesday was the trucker assigned to drive that big rig.
But the company that owns the truck told police that driver, identified as 60-year-old David Allen Arnold, was more than 1,000 miles where he was supposed to be.
The pursuit began when a Kaufman County state trooper ran a license plate check and the plate came back stolen because more than a day prior, the shipping company told police they couldn't find the truck or the man hired to drive it.
Pulling a trailer full of produce, Arnold rolled through three counties with police chasing behind.
Driver Arrested After Truck Chase, Standoff
The company that owns the 18-wheeler reported it stolen, telling police the driver was more than 30 hours overdue for a delivery in Maryland.
"For a still undetermined reason, the driver of the truck made the decision to not stop for our trooper and continued towards Dallas," said Sgt. Lonny Haschel, with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A transportation industry source tells NBC the driver had also stopped responding to calls from the shipping company.
What's unclear is why.
Haschel said he was not aware if the driver was providing any answers to investigators.
Troopers said Arnold is from Virginia, where state court records show a David Arnold with the same date of birth was convicted of stealing a car almost 20 years ago.
In 1998 he was ordered to serve six years probation for taking a Nissan along with some property from the man who owned the car.
Now, Arnold is accused of making off with a much larger set of wheels.
Two different companies own the tractor and the trailer. Management of those companies did not immediately respond to our calls for comment.
A dispatcher at the company that owns the tractor told NBC Wednesday everyone was tied up dealing with the situation.
Fortunately, the pursuit and ensuing standoff with police ended with no one hurt.
The dog that was riding in the tractor trailer involved the pursuit is safe and was taken to the Greenville Animal Control Shelter.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (often referred to as just Big Rigs) is a 2003 third-person racing video game developed by Stellar Stone and published by GameMill Publishing for the PC. The box for Big Rigs states that the main objective of the game is to race a semi-trailer truck "Big Rig" to safety in order to deliver illegal cargo being carried by the truck, while avoiding the police. In actuality, there are no police in the game, no such objectives are presented within the game itself and there is no load attached to the truck!
Most of the game instead centers on the player racing their truck against fellow drivers to the finish line; however, the player's computer-controlled opponent vehicles have no AI and never move from the starting position. In addition, due to a lack of collision detection, there are no obstacles to negotiate within the game, and the laws of physics are thrown out the window!
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing received extremely negative reviews when it came out. Reasons being - lack of collision detection, frequent bugs, poor visuals, and severe lack of functionality. As a result, the game is now widely regarded as one of the worst video games of all time.. and the Nerd is here to show it to you!

Semi-trailer truck
A semi-trailer truck is the combination of a tractor unit and one or more semi-trailers to carry freight. It is variously known as a transport (truck) in Canada; semi or single in Australia; semi, tractor-trailer, big rig, or eighteen-wheeler in the United States; articulated lorry, abbreviated artic, in Britain and Ireland.
A semi-trailer attaches to the tractor with a fifth wheel hitch, with much of its weight borne by the tractor. The result is that both tractor and semi-trailer will have a distinctly different design than a rigid truck and trailer.
Regional configurations
North America
In North America, the combination vehicles made up of a powered truck and one or more detachable trailers, are known as semi-tractor-trailers, tractor-trailers, semis, big rigs, semi trucks or eighteen-wheelers.
Trucks
The tractors, or powered trucks, typically have two or three axles; those built for hauling heavy-duty commercial-construction machinery may have as many as four or five axles, some often being lift axles.

His best friend Stevenson (Jason Schaver) takes him out to a local bar to cheer him up by getting him laid. This is where he learns about Justin's gift, which is really just his psychology education, but to Stevenson it's the most amazing ability known to man. After weeks of going out night after night and getting laid, Justin is exhausted and has to go back to work. He jokingly tells Stevenson if he wants to continue to go out all the time he needs to find a way to get paid for it. Taking it literally, Stevenson, who is a self proclaimed "Social Media Expert", finds a group of socially inept men that are more than willing to hand over the $$$ in order to learn the art of being a successful Wingman... and thus Wingmen Incorporated is born!

NBC has learned the man behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler that led authorities on a pursuit through several North Texas counties Wednesday was the trucker assigned to drive that big rig. But the company that owns the truck told police that driver, identified as 60-year-old David Allen Arnold, was more than 1,000 miles where he was supposed to be. NBC has learned the man behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler that led authorities on a pursuit through several North Texas counties Wednesday was the trucker assigned to drive that big rig.
But the company that owns the truck told police that driver, identified as 60-year-old David Allen Arnold, was more than 1,000 miles where he was supposed to be.
The pursuit began when a Kaufman County state trooper ran a license plate check and the plate came back stolen because more than a day prior, the shipping company told police they couldn't find the truck or the man hired to drive it.
Pulling a trailer full of produce, Arnold rolled through three counties with police chasing behind.
Driver Arrested After Truck Chase, Standoff
The company that owns the 18-wheeler reported it stolen, telling police the driver was more than 30 hours overdue for a delivery in Maryland.
"For a still undetermined reason, the driver of the truck made the decision to not stop for our trooper and continued towards Dallas," said Sgt. Lonny Haschel, with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A transportation industry source tells NBC the driver had also stopped responding to calls from the shipping company.
What's unclear is why.
Haschel said he was not aware if the driver was providing any answers to investigators.
Troopers said Arnold is from Virginia, where state court records show a David Arnold with the same date of birth was convicted of stealing a car almost 20 years ago.
In 1998 he was ordered to serve six years probation for taking a Nissan along with some property from the man who owned the car.
Now, Arnold is accused of making off with a much larger set of wheels.
Two different companies own the tractor and the trailer. Management of those companies did not immediately respond to our calls for comment.
A dispatcher at the company that owns the tractor told NBC Wednesday everyone was tied up dealing with the situation.
Fortunately, the pursuit and ensuing standoff with police ended with no one hurt.
The dog that was riding in the tractor trailer involved the pursuit is safe and was taken to the Greenville Animal Control Shelter.
