Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, also known as Madame de Pompadour (29 December 1721 – 15 April 1764, French pronunciation: [pɔ̃.pa.duːʁ]), was a member of the French court and was the official chief mistress of Louis XV from 1745 to her death. She took charge of the king’s schedule and was a valued aide and advisor, despite her frail health and many political enemies. She secured titles of nobility for herself and her relatives, and built a network of clients and supporters. She was particularly careful not to alienate the Queen, Marie Leszczyńska. She was a major patron of architecture and decorative arts such as porcelain. She was a patron of the philosophes of the Enlightenment, including Voltaire. Hostile critics at the time generally tarred her as a malevolent political influence, but historians are more favourable, emphasizing her successes as a patron of the arts and a champion of French pride.
Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, otherwise known as Reinette ("little queen") to her friends, was born on 29 December 1721 in Paris to François Poisson (1684–1754) and his wife Madeleine de La Motte (1699–1745). It is suspected that her biological father was either the rich financier Pâris de Montmartel or the tax collector (fermier général) Le Normant de Tournehem. Le Normant de Tournehem became her legal guardian when François Poisson was forced to leave the country in 1725 after a scandal over a series of unpaid debts, a crime at that time punishable by death. (He was cleared eight years later and allowed to return to France.) Her younger brother was Abel-François Poisson de Vandières, who later became the Marquis de Marigny.

Plot: Dashing through the streets of Venice, slipping from the clutches of the law, darting across Europe in search of new challenges, Giacomo Casanova races through life with irrepressible energy. Violinist, writer, soldier, spy, gambler, adventurer - it is as a lover that he unbridles the full force of his energy. A charmer and seducer, he, too, is charmed by the beauty of women, seduced by their passion, intrigued by their mystery. For the young Casanova, life may be one dazzling Venetian carnival, but in love there are no masks or disguises: this is where he is at his most genuine, most vulnerable, most naked. The son of an actress, Giacomo Casanova grows up surrounded by the magic and artifice of theater. As the protégé of the French ambassador to the Venetian Republic, he begins his ascent in society - and his conquest of its most beautiful women. Betrayed by his jealous benefactor, Casanova is thrown into prison. Fifteen months later, he escapes and flees to Paris, where he beguiles Louis XV's mistress, Madame de Pompadour.

Plot: Witty narration follows the history of Versailles Palace; founded by Louis XIII, enlarged by autocratic Louis XIV, whose personal affairs and amours, and those of his two successors, are followed in more detail to the start of the Revolution, after which the story is brought rapidly up to date. A huge cast plays mainly historical persons who appear briefly.

Genres: Comedy, Drama,Oh you sweet thing
Sirens sing your name
Sailors say that I’m to blame
Broken on the waves, O save me
Dance your fingertips
On this sinking ship
Dare the deep black sea
With motets and litanies and casting off precious things,
A lesson
Devil knows how to row
Lash me to the mast, Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing my name,
Nobody else to blame
Lash me to the mast
Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing your name
There’s nobody else to blame
Oh you sexy beast
From the distant east
I’ve played all your games
But no word’s safe enough to save me from perdition’s flames
Bluebird, hear my prayer
Save me from despair
Bind me to her heart
Scylla and Charybdis won’t never keep us apart
A lesson
Swingin’ low, here we go
Lash me to the mast, Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing my name,
Nobody else to blame
Lash me to the mast
Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing your name
And everybody knows that
Ghostly rain and hurricanes and
Stormy seas may roll
But I’m the Captain of my Fate
And Master of my Soul
Seven Spanish ships set sail
Down to the water in a long black veil
But you, my dear Reinette Poisson
Kept me strong enough to get back home
Lash me to the mast, Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing my name,
Nobody else to blame
Lash me to the mast
Madame Pompadour
Madame Pompadour
Sirens sing your name
And then somebody sang
My cherie Rose,
Je t’aime, j’adore
Madame Pompadour
Sirènes chantent votre nom
Je ne serai jamais le même
My cherie Rose,
Je t’aime, j’adore
Madame Pompadour
Sirènes chantent votre nom
