National Geographic EXCLUSIVE: President Obama calls the National Parks "America's Best Idea" as he walks through Yosemite National Park with the National Geographic Channel's Explorer host Richard Bacon. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first national park in America. This weekend Obama traveled to Carlsbad Caverns and Yosemite, where he surprised a group of 4th-grade students who were visiting Yosemite as part of a White House program that offers free access to national parks for 4th graders and their families.

We begin our journey at Yellowstone Lake, and then check out the geothermal features in the Mud Volcano area.
We then witness the dramatic views of the Upper and Lower Falls.
We follow the grand canyon at Yellowstone to the open plains of Lamar Valley. Then we find more reasons why the park is a national treasure when we visit the Mammoth Hot Springs.
We end at the famous Old Faithful geyser for a spectacular finale.

Jim Corbett National Park, which is a part of the larger Corbett Tiger Reserve, a Project Tiger Reserve lies in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The magical landscape of Corbett is well known and fabled for its tiger richness. Established in the year 1936 as Hailey National Park, Corbett has the glory of being India's oldest and most prestigious National Park. It is also being honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973. This unique tiger territory is best known as the father who gave birth of the Project Tiger in India to protect the most endangered species and the Royal of India called Tigers.

Spans over an extent of 520 square kilometers, its whole area comprises of hills, marshy depressions, riverine belts, grasslands and large lake. It is among the few tiger reserves in India that allows overnight stays in the lap of the National Park. Nature watch and wildlife viewing in the park is done in an open four wheeler Jeep and on elephant back. Sheltering a healthy population of tigers and rare species like Otters and the endemic fish eating crocodile, the national park is one of the most sought after destinations for the wildlife buffs. Dhikala, situated at the border of the extensive Patil Dun valley, is the most popular destination in Corbett because of its superb location and sheer abundance of wildlife present.
If you love bird watching then Corbett is virtual haven for such tourists. Corbett and its adjoining area is a home to more than 650 species of residents and migratory birds. Particularly Dhikala is fine place to look for birds of prey, more than over 50 species of raptors alone shows the healthy biodiversity of the area. Their multiplex behavior is intriguing and their varied songs are very much pleasing to the ear. In a nutshell, this finest national park of India is well known for rich and varied wildlife including royal Bengal tiger, elephant, four to five species of deer and rich birdlife.

How to Reach Corbett :-
Ramnagar is perhaps the best approach to the Corbett National Park which forms the headquarters of CTR. This small city is well connected by road and rail network with major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital and Bareilly. Once you reach Ramnagar, then it takes only half an hour to reach Corbett National Park. The park is around 15 Kms from Ramnagar railway station.
By Road :- Ramnagar has a very good network of road that connects the different cities. The Corbett National Park is situated at an approximate surface distance of 260 Kilometer from India's national capital Delhi. The state government of Uttarakhand plies buses at a short interval of time from Delhi, Moradabad, Haldawani, and Nainital that reaches Corbett directly.
By Rail :- The railway station in Ramnagar receives trains from different major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad and Bareilly. A direct train to Ramnagar runs from Delhi. You can check out for Ranikhet Express, Corbett Link Express and Kathgodam Express that takes you directly to Ramnagar.

Long day hike to the top of Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, with outstanding views of Vernal and Nevada Falls, Half Dome, Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra.
The trail is 14 mi/22.4 km long (round trip, via Vernal and Nevada Falls), elevation gain 4800 ft/1475 m. Two metal cables allow hikers to climb the last 400 feet to the summit.

A national park is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently (for example, see Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in the United States), an international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined National Parks as its category II type of protected areas. While ideas for this type of national park had been suggested previously, the United States established the first such one, Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. According to the IUCN, there were 6,555 national parks worldwide in 2006 that meet its criteria.
In 1969 the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) declared a national park to be a relatively large area with particular defining characteristics. A national park was deemed to be a place

The magical landscape of Corbett is well known and fabled for its tiger richness. Established in the year 1936 as Hailey National Park, Corbett has the glory of being India's oldest and most prestigious National Park. It is also being honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973. This unique tiger territory is best known as the father who gave birth of the Project Tiger in India to protect the most endangered species and the Royal of India called Tigers.

It is among the few tiger reserves in India that allows overnight stays in the lap of the National Park. Nature watch and wildlife viewing in the park is done in an open four wheeler Jeep and on elephant back. Sheltering a healthy population of tigers and rare species like Otters and the endemic fish eating crocodile, the national park is one of the most sought after destinations for the wildlife buffs. Dhikala, situated at the border of the extensive Patil Dun valley, is the most popular destination in Corbett because of its superb location and sheer abundance of wildlife present.
If you love bird watching then Corbett is virtual haven for such tourists. Corbett and its adjoining area is a home to more than 650 species of residents and migratory birds. Particularly Dhikala is fine place to look for birds of prey, more than over 50 species of raptors alone shows the healthy biodiversity of the area. Their multiplex behavior is intriguing and their varied songs are very much pleasing to the ear. In a nutshell, this finest national park of India is well known for rich and varied wildlife including royal Bengal tiger, elephant, four to five species of deer and rich birdlife.

How to Reach Corbett :-
Ramnagar is perhaps the best approach to the Corbett National Park which forms the headquarters of CTR. This small city is well connected by road and rail network with major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital and Bareilly. Once you reach Ramnagar, then it takes only half an hour to reach Corbett National Park. The park is around 15 Kms from Ramnagar railway station.
By Road :- Ramnagar has a very good network of road that connects the different cities. The Corbett National Park is situated at an approximate surface distance of 260 Kilometer from India's national capital Delhi. The state government of Uttarakhand plies buses at a short interval of time from Delhi, Moradabad, Haldawani, and Nainital that reaches Corbett directly.
By Rail :- The railway station in Ramnagar receives trains from different major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad and Bareilly. A direct train to Ramnagar runs from Delhi. You can check out for Ranikhet Express, Corbett Link Express and Kathgodam Express that takes you directly to Ramnagar.

On the second instalment of Statis' two day adventure in Yosemite National Park he sets off to drive over Tioga Pass. Straight away he is followed by a massive biker crew consisting of Harley Davidsons and Indians. Statis' lifelong love of motorbikes makes him stop off to get some closer shots of the bikes while they have a pit stop in a gas/petrol station. While they are inside the weather changes suddenly and they are caught in a snow storm. Statis decides to try out Beef Jerky for the first time as they wait for the snow to subside before continuing the drive. As the roads get more perilous the mountain passes become more slippery and dangerous and he decides to turn around and drive back down to the valley. On the second instalment of Statis' two day adventure in Yosemite National Park he sets off to drive over Tioga Pass. Straight away he is followed by a massive ...
On the second instalment of Statis' two day adventure in Yosemite National Park he sets off to drive over Tioga Pass. Straight away he is followed by a massive biker crew consisting of Harley Davidsons and Indians. Statis' lifelong love of motorbikes makes him stop off to get some closer shots of the bikes while they have a pit stop in a gas/petrol station. While they are inside the weather changes suddenly and they are caught in a snow storm. Statis decides to try out Beef Jerky for the first time as they wait for the snow to subside before continuing the drive. As the roads get more perilous the mountain passes become more slippery and dangerous and he decides to turn around and drive back down to the valley. As the light starts to fade Statis heads back over the mountain pass to the hotel and one of the cars in front of him spins off the road and down the edge of the mountain stopped only by the trees in its way. The car behind it did a 360 spin but managed to stay on the road and then all the other drivers, obviously being unused to driving in snow, go at a snail's pace down the mountain! When finally they all pull over Statis manages to drive past them all safely after years of driving in British weather its just like a normal summers day in the UK!!!

Zusätzlich sollen neue Schutzzonen entstehen, damit die Wildtiere ihre ursprünglichen Wanderwege wieder aufnehmen können. Nur wenn die Bevölkerung freiwillig mitmacht, kann der Schutz der Wildtiere von Dauer sein. Ein lebendes Nashorn bringt mehr als ein totes, das muss allen klar werden. Namibia kann sich seiner Vorreiterrolle beim Tier- und Naturschutz in ganz Afrika rühmen. Der Bestand vom Aussterben bedrohter Arten wie etwa dem Breitmaulnashorn ist seit Jahren stabil. Der berühmte Nationalpark im Norden Namibias zieht Touristen aus aller Welt an. Bereits vor hundert Jahren gegründet, gehört er zu den ältesten Nationalparks der Erde. Doch Etosha ist beileibe keine heile Welt. Auch hier konkurrieren Löwen, Nashörner, Zebras, Elefanten und Giraffen mit den Menschen und ihrem Vieh um Land, Wasser und Nahrung.
Immer wieder dringen Elefanten in angrenzende Farmen ein und zerstören einen Teil der Ernte. Löwen reißen Rinder. Umgekehrt machen Viehherden den Wildtieren Wasser und Futter streitig. Übertragbare Krankheiten gefährden beide Seiten. Umso wichtiger ist es, die Anwohner ins Management des Parks einzubeziehen. Zusätzlich sollen neue Schutzzonen entstehen, damit die Wildtiere ihre ursprünglichen Wanderwege wieder aufnehmen können. Nur wenn die Bevölkerung freiwillig mitmacht, kann der Schutz der Wildtiere von Dauer sein. Ein lebendes Nashorn bringt mehr als ein totes, das muss allen klar werden. Namibia kann sich seiner Vorreiterrolle beim Tier- und Naturschutz in ganz Afrika rühmen. Der Bestand vom Aussterben bedrohter Arten wie etwa dem Breitmaulnashorn ist seit Jahren stabil. Researcher and author David Paulides has worked in law enforcement in the San Francisco Bay Area - on everything from street crimes, SWAT, and Vice, to a variety of assignments in the detective division. He's become an expert on the disproportionate number of mysterious disappearances happening in our national parks and discussed new hair-raising cases and the patterns associated with them.
So far, Paulides has documented around 1,500-1,600 unexplained disappearance cases, and in about 20% of the incidents the people are found dead, but the majority of the time, the bodies are never found. When people are found alive, they're typically not able to adequately describe what happened, he said. There have been a number of cases where people were missing for around 8 days, and found without most of their clothes, yet they didn't have mosquito bites or a sunburn, he added.
