I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're underway with the second video, featuring both the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R!
The GTI brand is iconic having being born over 4 decades ago and the mk VII version comes equipped with 220PS and 350Nm, along with familiar touches that have remained in the model throughout time; the tartan interior, red highlight across the grille and the golf ball gear knob.
The R was launched initially on the previous generation but now comes packed with 300PS and 380NM, capable of 4.9s 0-62mph with the DSG, but in this case I'm driving both cars for back to back test drives with 6 speed manuals.

This is the new 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI facelift hot hatchback. Its 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine now produces 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels and when equipped with a 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox it will do 0-62 MPH in 6.4 seconds and go onto a top speed of 154 MPH. 44 MPG combined is claimed.
This high quality interior now features the new 9.2 inch Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also new is a 12.3 inch digital drivers display. Boot space is 380 litres.
Costing from £27,865 for the manual car, or £29,935 for the DSG, the Golf GTI is still the benchmark for the hot hatch class.

Volkswagen has just updated the Golf R with a few design tweaks, an increase in power to 310hp and a raft of new performance options. However, it's also upgraded the GTI Performance pack too so that now has 245hp. The price difference between the two is a little over £3,000. So is it worth upgrading to the R or is the GTI Performance all the hot hatch you could ever need? I test both cars, time their 0-60mph times, check their in gear acceleration and generally have a blast trying to find out...

Call the 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance boring. Call it bland. Call it the populist choice that will ensure you’re forever anonymous, running round in a sea of other Volkswagen Golfs. You can call the GTI Performance all those things but there’s one other title you should also bestow upon it - the most complete, all-round hot-hatch benchmark.
There’s no doubting the Golf’s credentials when it comes to hot hatch legend - it was the first and there can only ever be one original. Recently though, there have been more pretenders to the Golf’s throne than ever before, and those pretenders are more competent than they’ve ever been. It’s ironic then that the Golf GTI Performance might not be the best pure hot-hatch on the market, but it remains the best all-purpose tool.
The Performance Pack drags the base GTI ever so much closer to the range-topping Golf R, which raises another interesting point. The GTI’s most vocal critics have, since the launch of the R, hammered the GTI by bleating ‘it isn’t even the best Golf in the range’! When that’s the main line of criticism from your opponents, we reckon you can rest easy.

Volkswagen Golf
The Volkswagen Golf is a small family car produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen since 1974, marketed worldwide across seven generations, in various body configurations and under various nameplates – as the Volkswagen Rabbit in the United States and Canada (Mk1 and Mk5), and as the Volkswagen Caribe in Mexico (Mk1).
The original Golf Mk1 was a front-wheel drive, front-engined replacement for the air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Volkswagen Beetle. Historically, the Golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model and the world's second best-selling model, with more than 29 million built by 2012.
Most production of the Golf was initially in the 3-door hatchback style. Other variants include a 5-door hatchback, station wagon (Variant, from 1993), convertible (Cabriolet and Cabrio, 1979–2002, 2011–present), and a Golf-derived notchback sedan, variously called Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Vento (from 1992) or Volkswagen Bora (from 1999). The cars have filled many market segments, from basic personal cars, to high-performance hot hatches.

Golf
Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
Golf is one of the few ball games that do not require a standardized playing area. The game is played on a course with an arranged progression of either nine or 18 holes. Each hole on the course must contain a tee box to start from, and a putting green containing the actual cup. There are other standard forms of terrain in between, such as the fairway, rough, and hazards, but each hole on a course is unique in its specific layout and arrangement.
Golf is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known as stroke play, or the lowest score on the most individual holes in a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play. Stroke play is the most commonly seen format at all levels.

I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're underway with the second video, featuring both the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R! The GTI brand is iconic having being born over 4 decades ago and the mk VII version comes equipped with 220PS and 350Nm, along with familiar touches that have remained in the model throughout time; the tartan interior, red highlight across the grille and the golf ball gear knob. The R was launched initially on the previous generation but now comes packed with 300PS and 380NM, capable of 4.9s 0-62mph with the DSG, but in this case I'm driving both cars for back to back test drives with 6 speed manuals. 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI Review - Inside Lane
This is the new 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI facelift hot hatchback. Its 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine now produces 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels and when equipped with a 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox it will do 0-62 MPH in 6.4 seconds and go onto a top speed of 154 MPH. 44 MPG combined is claimed. This high quality interior now features the new 9.2 inch Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also new is a 12.3 inch digital drivers display. Boot space is 380 litres. Costing from £27,865 for the manual car, or £29,935 for the DSG, the Golf GTI is still the benchmark for the hot hatch class.

I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're underway with the second video, featuring both the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R!
The GTI brand is iconic having being born over 4 decades ago and the mk VII version comes equipped with 220PS and 350Nm, along with familiar touches that have remained in the model throughout time; the tartan interior, red highlight across the grille and the golf ball gear knob.
The R was launched initially on the previous generation but now comes packed with 300PS and 380NM, capable of 4.9s 0-62mph with the DSG, but in this case I'm driving both cars for back to back test drives with 6 speed manuals.
The Golf GTI and Golf R (along with many other Golf variants) are available via Pendle Vehicle Contracts. The UK-based leasing company offers special leasing deals for all needs and arrange suitable finance for the private individual, business or even if you are a large fleet customer.

This high quality interior now features the new 9.2 inch Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also new is a 12.3 inch digital drivers display. Boot space is 380 litres.

You can call the GTI Performance all those things but there’s one other title you should also bestow upon it - the most complete, all-round hot-hatch benchmark.
There’s no doubting the Golf’s credentials when it comes to hot hatch legend - it was the first and there can only ever be one original. Recently though, there have been more pretenders to the Golf’s throne than ever before, and those pretenders are more competent than they’ve ever been. It’s ironic then that the Golf GTI Performance might not be the best pure hot-hatch on the market, but it remains the best all-purpose tool.
The Performance Pack drags the base GTI ever so much closer to the range-topping Golf R, which raises another interesting point. The GTI’s most vocal critics have, since the launch of the R, hammered the GTI by bleating ‘it isn’t even the best Golf in the range’! When that’s the main line of criticism from your opponents, we reckon you can rest easy.

The Volkswagen and Audi tuning scene has had many styles, phases, and trends come and go. As of lately, there has been a movement of people who think it's cool to make their cars pretty much non-functional to drive (suspension-wise) and dump a lot of time and money into ruining a car that has the potential to be so much more.
This video is about a vehicle that has been revived from the dead into a machine of performance, class, and beauty. This car embodies the timeless style of what a proper MK2 GTI (or modified Volkswagen in general) has always been destined to be.
This car was built with blood and sweat over a course of five years, not a single bolt unturned by it's owner.
This is Jason Rivkin's Supercharged 1987 VW GTI VR6.

I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're underway with the second video, featuring both the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R! The GTI brand is iconic having being born over 4 decades ago and the mk VII version comes equipped with 220PS and 350Nm, along with familiar touches that have remained in the model throughout time; the tartan interior, red highlight across the grille and the golf ball gear knob. The R was launched initially on the previous generation but now comes packed with 300PS and 380NM, capable of 4.9s 0-62mph with the DSG, but in this case I'm driving both cars for back to back test drives with 6 speed manuals. 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI Review - Inside Lane
This is the new 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI facelift hot hatchback. Its 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine now produces 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels and when equipped with a 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox it will do 0-62 MPH in 6.4 seconds and go onto a top speed of 154 MPH. 44 MPG combined is claimed. This high quality interior now features the new 9.2 inch Discovery Pro touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also new is a 12.3 inch digital drivers display. Boot space is 380 litres. Costing from £27,865 for the manual car, or £29,935 for the DSG, the Golf GTI is still the benchmark for the hot hatch class.

I've teamed up with Pendle Leasing to bring you a new series of test drives in more obtainable cars and we're underway with the second video, featuring both the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Golf R!
The GTI brand is iconic having being born over 4 decades ago and the mk VII version comes equipped with 220PS and 350Nm, along with familiar touches that have remained in the model throughout time; the tartan interior, red highlight across the grille and the golf ball gear knob.
The R was launched initially on the previous generation but now comes packed with 300PS and 380NM, capable of 4.9s 0-62mph with the DSG, but in this case I'm driving both cars for back to back test drives with 6 speed manuals.
The Golf GTI and Golf R (along with many other Golf variants) are available via Pendle Vehicle Contracts. The UK-based leasing company offers special leasing deals for all needs and arrange suitable finance for the private individual, business or even if you are a large fleet customer.

There’s no doubting the Golf’s credentials when it comes to hot hatch legend - it was the first and there can only ever be one original. Recently though, there have been more pretenders to the Golf’s throne than ever before, and those pretenders are more competent than they’ve ever been. It’s ironic then that the Golf GTI Performance might not be the best pure hot-hatch on the market, but it remains the best all-purpose tool.
The Performance Pack drags the base GTI ever so much closer to the range-topping Golf R, which raises another interesting point. The GTI’s most vocal critics have, since the launch of the R, hammered the GTI by bleating ‘it isn’t even the best Golf in the range’! When that’s the main line of criticism from your opponents, we reckon you can rest easy.

As of lately, there has been a movement of people who think it's cool to make their cars pretty much non-functional to drive (suspension-wise) and dump a lot of time and money into ruining a car that has the potential to be so much more.
This video is about a vehicle that has been revived from the dead into a machine of performance, class, and beauty. This car embodies the timeless style of what a proper MK2 GTI (or modified Volkswagen in general) has always been destined to be.
This car was built with blood and sweat over a course of five years, not a single bolt unturned by it's owner.
This is Jason Rivkin's Supercharged 1987 VW GTI VR6.
