Karunas (born 21 February 1970 as Karunanidhi Sethu) is an Indian actor, Politician and comedian in the Tamil film industry. Appearing mostly in supporting roles, he has also played lead roles in films including Dindigul Sarathy (2008) and Ambasamudram Ambani (2008). Apart from acting, Karunas has also been credited in films as a producer, music composer and a singer, while he continues to serve as the Vice-President of the Nadigar Sangam, after being elected in October 2015.
Karunas began work as a gaana singer aged 12, earning the moniker "Gaana" Karunas, and made his television debut through Yuhi Sethu's Naiyaandi Darbar show in the late 1990s as a musician. Director Bala heard one of his songs and subsequently signed Karunas on for an acting role in his second directorial venture, the drama film Nandha (2001). He was cast as the comedian and his role as 'Lodukku' Pandi won him critical acclaim, prompting him to accept further film offers. He subsequently went on to appear in notable films including Baba (2002), Pithamagan (2003), Vasool Raja MBBS (2004) and Polladhavan (2007) in supporting comedy roles. Karunas has also distributed two films, Pori (2007) and Kattradhu Thamizh (2007), but the failure of both films has prompted him to stay away from distributing any further ventures.
Karunas first appeared in the lead role in the comedy drama, Dindigul Sarathy (2008), portraying an insecure man with an inferior complex. With heavy promotions by Sun Pictures, the film became a surprise success at the box office and prompted Karunas to appear in further lead roles in the comedy films Ambasamudram Ambani (2010), Chandhamama (2013), Ragalaipuram (2013) and Lodukku Pandi (2015). In between the films, he also trialled serious performances, and was briefly involved in the making of Thanga Meengal (2013) before it underwent a change of cast, while he won acclaim for his role in Santosh Sivan's war drama film, Ceylon (2014). His films as the lead hero, gradually had lower key promotions than the previous ones, and in 2015, Karunas announced he would not appear in any further lead roles. He subsequently made a return to starring supporting roles thereafter, winning critical acclaim for his performance of a suicidal man in Darling (2015) and as a villager in Komban (2015), which became his hundredth film.

Actor Karunas criticized DMK member Palanivel Thiaga Rajan for delivering his speech in English on July 25. The actor said he could not follow the speech since he did not know English. Objecting to this, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin said Rajan delivered part of his speech in English because he could not comfortably explain the economical issues in Tamil.

Karunas

Early life
Karunas was born as Karunanidhi Sethu in Peravurani, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. He did his schooling at Palangudi Bharathi School and later studied at Nandanam Arts, Presidency College. Karunas began his career as pop singer and dancer, working extensively on Tamil folk music. He then gradually appeared in films as a comedian.

Starring director-turned-actor Ameer Sultan, Madhumitha, Swathi, Ponvannan, lyricist Snehan, making his acting debut, and Ganja Karuppu in lead roles, the film is written by Ameer himself and has musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Yogeshwaran, simply known as Yogi (Ameer Sultan), and his gang of three men live in a slum on the edge making a living out of robberies and murders and having no human emotions. Yogi, in particular, has a dark secret about his bad past, which he keeps to himself. One day during a robbing spree, he is chased by the police. He gets into a car parked by a woman in front of a fruit shop and manages to flee, when he suddenly hears the cry of a child, finding a three-month-old baby in the back seat of the car. He abandons the car and leaves the baby in the car, but as he hears the baby crying, he is moved and the human being in him wakes up. He gets back to shove the baby into a large shopping bag and takes it home with him. He from them hides the baby from the rest of his gang and tries to take care of the baby alone.
Yogi then, holding at gunpoint, coerces Rajasulochana (Madhumitha), a young mother hailing from Andhra Pradesh and deserted by her husband, to breastfeed that baby. Meanwhile it is revealed, that the child's real mother Caroline (Swathi) is despearate to get her child back, whilst her husband Linden (Vincent Asokan), happening to be merely the step father of the baby, searches with the help of rowdys for the baby, which he actually wants dead.
In the meantime, Yogi slowly gets transformed, turning into a new man thanks to the baby, which apparently prompts feelings in him, even planning to keep and bring up the child himself. A flashback reveals his past, where he had an atrocious childhood as he was terrorized by his sadistic father (Devaraj), a beggar, who was responsible for the death of his mother and sister and for making Yogi himself a brute. However, he changes his plans and decides to reunite the baby with its mother, but unfortunately the child slips into the hands of her husband Linden. Yogi gets to know that Linden wants to kill the baby and tries to prevent that and to save the baby.

Dhanam (Sangeetha) is a call girl in Hyderabad.
Anantharaman (Prem), a Brahmin youth is fascinated by her
and decides to marry her. She reciprocates his love and
agrees to marry him on the condition that his family
should accept their marriage. As expected, the family
opposes the marriage plans. However when an astrologer
Vedagiri (Kotta Sreenivasa Rao) predicts that they would
strike it rich, if Anantharaman marries Dhanam, they
arrange for the wedding. Meanwhile Vedhagiri tries too
woo Dhanam. When Dhanam gives birth to a girl child, all
hell breaks loose in the family. A series of events
results in Dhanam avenging the whole family including the
astrologer. Is she punished for her crime forms the
climax.

agrees to marry him on the condition that his family
should accept their marriage. As expected, the family
opposes the marriage plans. However when an astrologer
Vedagiri (Kotta Sreenivasa Rao) predicts that they would
strike it rich, if Anantharaman marries Dhanam, they
arrange for the wedding. Meanwhile Vedhagiri tries too
woo Dhanam. When Dhanam gives birth to a girl child, all
hell breaks loose in the family. A series of events
results in Dhanam avenging the whole family including the
astrologer. Is she punished for her crime forms the
climax.

Nayanthara accidently slaps Raghuvaran who dies of a heart attack. Karthik Kumar convinces Dhanush to come to his hometown for a change. In the train, Nayanthara is revealed to be Karthik Kumar's fiance. After certain events, Nayanthara also falls in love with Dhanush. How they convince Nayanthara's grandfather K.Vishwanath forms the crux of the story.
