Storyline
Puppeteer Craig Schwartz and animal lover and pet store clerk Lotte Schwartz are just going through the motions of their marriage. Despite not being able to earn a living solely through puppeteering, Craig loves his profession as it allows him to inhabit the skin of others. He begins to take the ability to inhabit the skin of others to the next level when he is forced to take a job as a file clerk for the off-kilter LesterCorp, located on the five-foot tall 7½ floor of a Manhattan office building. Behind one of the filing cabinets in his work area, Craig finds a hidden door which he learns is a portal into the mind of John Malkovich, the visit through the portal which lasts fifteen minutes after which the person is spit into a ditch next to the New Jersey Turnpike. Craig is fascinated by the meaning of life associated with this finding. Lotte's trips through the portal make her evaluate her own self. Puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is having money problems, so he takes a temporary job as a file clerk on the seventh-and-a-half floor of a large office building. One day, while rummaging behind a cabinet, he finds a small door that leads to the center of the mind of actor John Malkovich (played by, you guessed it, John Malkovich). Craig discovers that entering the portal allows him to become John Malkovich for a brief spell, and in time he and his beautiful but aloof co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener) get the bright idea to charge admission for the privilege of spending 15 minutes inside the head of a well-known actor. Malkovich realizes that something strange is happening to him, but can do little to stop it, as strangers take over his mind for a quarter-hour at a time. Craig's wife, Lotte (Cameron Diaz), eventually takes a trip into Malkovich's psyche, and she soon finds herself in love with Maxine, with whom Malkovich has an affair; meanwhile, Maxine in time becomes infatuated with both Craig and Lotte, but only when they're inside Malkovich. Acclaimed actor John Malkovich reflects on his initial feelings after reading Charlie Kaufman's script for the film, "Being John Malkovich". "It never occurred to me that anyone would be goofy enough to actually make that movie, but of course I hadn't met Spike Jonze then," says Malkovich.

In this delightful, wide-ranging conversation with Jim Sharman, a respected and enduring artist in his own right, Malkovich speaks about his recent collaborations for the stage with Michael Sturminger, The Infernal Comedy and The Giacomo Variations, along with his rich and varied film and theatre work over the years.
Malkovich has acted in 65 films and was one of the founders of Chicago's critically-acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Perhaps best-remembered for his stand-out roles in films such as Dangerous Liaisons and Being John Malkovich, Malkovich is also well known for his endless capacity to "shape shift" -- the seducer, the intellectual, philosopher, the coward -- often within a single character.
On the art of seduction, he tells Sharman: "Seduction is like theatre, you have to be where you are. You have to be in the present...and allow the person looking into you to read the quality in you that they need in order to be seduced by you."
The discussion ranges through the role of fathers and sons in American literature, Malkovich's love of William Faulkner, his disdain of celebrity, making unlikeable characters worth watching, and the critical differences between acting for the stage or screen.

It stars John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and John Malkovich, who plays a fictional version of himself. The film depicts Craig Schwartz (Cusack), a puppeteer who finds a portal that leads into Malkovich's mind.
It was nominated for the 72nd Academy Awards in three categories: Best Supporting Actress for Catherine Keener, Best Director for Spike Jonze and Best Original Screenplay for Charlie Kaufman.
Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is an unemployed puppeteer in a forlorn marriage with his pet-obsessed wife Lotte (Cameron Diaz). Gaining a file clerk job through Dr. Lester (Orson Bean) at LesterCorp, in the strange Floor 7½ low-ceiling offices of the Mertin Flemmer Building in New York City, he develops an attraction to his co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener), who does not return his affections. Schwartz discovers a small door behind a filing cabinet which he enters, finding himself in the mind of actor John Malkovich; able to observe and sense whatever Malkovich does for fifteen minutes before he is ejected and dropped into a ditch near the New Jersey Turnpike. Schwartz reveals the portal to Maxine and they decide to let others use it at $200 a turn.

Cameron Michelle Diaz (born August 30, 1972) is an American actress and former model. She became famous during the 1990s with roles in the movies The Mask, My Best Friend's Wedding, and There's Something About Mary. Other high-profile credits include the two Charlie's Angels films, voicing the character Princess Fiona in the Shrek series, and Bad Teacher. Diaz received Golden Globe award nominations for her performances in the movies There's Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, Vanilla Sky, and Gangs of New York.
Diaz, the younger of two daughters, was born in San Diego, California. Her mother, Billie (née Early), is an import-export agent, and her father, Emilio Diaz (1949–2008), worked for the California oil company UNOCAL for more than 20 years as a field gauger. Diaz has an older sister, Chimene. Her father's family came from Cuba, before settling in Tampa's Ybor City, and eventually California, where Emilio was born. Her mother is of German and Cherokee descent. Diaz was raised in Long Beach, California and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School.

"It never occurred to me that anyone would be goofy enough to actually make that movie, but of course I hadn't met Spike Jonze then," says Malkovich. ----- In this delightful, wide-ranging conversation with Jim Sharman, a respected and enduring artist in his own right, Malkovich speaks about his recent collaborations for the stage with Michael Sturminger, The Infernal Comedy and The Giacomo Variations, along with his rich and varied film and theatre work over the years. Malkovich has acted in 65 films and was one of the founders of Chicago's critically-acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Perhaps best-remembered for his stand-out roles in films such as Dangerous Liaisons and Being John Malkovich, Malkovich is also well known for his endless capacity to "shape shift" -- the seducer, the intellectual, philosopher, the coward -- often within a single character. On the art of seduction, he tells Sharman: "Seduction is like theatre, you have to be where you are. You have to be in the present...and allow the person looking into you to read the quality in you that they need in order to be seduced by you." The discussion ranges through the role of fathers and sons in American literature, Malkovich's love of William Faulkner, his disdain of celebrity, making unlikeable characters worth watching, and the critical differences between acting for the stage or screen. Perhaps best-remembered for his stand-out roles in films such as Dangerous Liaisons and Being John Malkovich, Malkovich is also well known for his endless capacity to "shape shift" -- the seducer, the intellectual, philosopher, the coward -- often within a single character.
On the art of seduction, he tells Sharman: "Seduction is like theatre, you have to be where you are. You have to be in the present...and allow the person looking into you to read the quality in you that they need in order to be seduced by you."
The discussion ranges through the role of fathers and sons in American literature, Malkovich's love of William Faulkner, his disdain of celebrity, making unlikeable characters worth watching, and the critical differences between acting for the stage or screen.

Puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is having money problems, so he takes a temporary job as a file clerk on the seventh-and-a-half floor of a large office building. One day, while rummaging behind a cabinet, he finds a small door that leads to the center of the mind of actor John Malkovich (played by, you guessed it, John Malkovich). Craig discovers that entering the portal allows him to become John Malkovich for a brief spell, and in time he and his beautiful but aloof co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener) get the bright idea to charge admission for the privilege of spending 15 minutes inside the head of a well-known actor. Malkovich realizes that something strange is happening to him, but can do little to stop it, as strangers take over his mind for a quarter-hour at a time. (CNN)A female diver died in an apparent shark attack off Australia's west coast on Sunday, making it the second fatal shark attack recorded in the area in less than a week ... Police said the man tried to pull her from the water following the attack, but she died before they made it to shore ... Although the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, the Western Australian government said the woman's injuries were consistent with a shark attack....
