"Joe Biden took months to decide he wouldn’t run for president — but he was sold on Elizabeth Warren as his running mate from the start, people familiar with the situation told POLITICO.
And he still thinks the Massachusetts firebrand would be Hillary Clinton’s best choice to replace him as the nation’s No. 2 in January 2017...
Warren, a freshman senator from Massachusetts, who supports breaking up the big banks and re-imposing 1930s-era Wall Street regulations to prevent another global financial crisis, was Biden’s “only real choice,” according to an official he spoke to at the time.
Biden — who told an interviewer on Tuesday that he considered running for president because he believed he was “the best” person for the job — took his hat out of the ring in late October 2015, citing the stresses on his family following the death of his son Beau.”*

"Vice President Joe Biden says he “would have been the best president” if he had mounted a successful campaign in the 2016 election, but that forgoing the race was the right decision for his family.
Speaking with “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts in an exclusive interview that aired today, Biden said he had planned to run but changed course only after his eldest son Beau died last May.
“No one should ever seek the presidency unless they're able to devote their whole heart and soul and passion into just doing that,” he said. “And, Beau was my soul. I just wasn't ready to be able to do that. But, so, my one regret is my Beau's not here. I don't have any other regrets.”
For months last year the question of whether Biden would run loomed over the Democratic presidential contest. Then in October he announced that he and his family were still dealing with the grief over Beau’s death and he would not seek the presidency.”*

Vice President Joseph Biden speaks after receiving the 2016 Laetare Medal, the oldest and most prestigious honor given to American Catholics at Notre Dame's 171st Commencement Ceremony on May 15, 2016.
Vice President Biden was a co-recipient of the award with former Speaker of the House John Boehner. They received the award, not as an endorsement for the policy positions of either, but to celebrate two lives dedicated to keeping our democratic institutions working for the common good through dialogue focused on the issues and responsible compromise.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law. At age 29 he became one of the youngest people ever elected to the U.S. Senate. Soon after his election, his wife and infant child were tragically killed in an automobile accident, yet he persevered in caring for his family as a single parent and in serving in the Senate. He represented Delaware for 36 years before his election as vice president in 2008.
In the Senate, Biden served as chairman or ranking member of the Judiciary Committee for 17 years and played an integral role in the 1994 Crime Law and the Violence Against Women Act. He also served for 12 years as chair or ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, helping to guide issues and legislation related to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

"Beau Biden, the son of Vice President Joseph Biden whose election as Delaware attorney general at age 37 made him an ascending star in the Democratic Party, has died of brain cancer. He was 46.
Biden died Saturday night after being admitted earlier this month to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, for a recurrence of brain cancer.
His health had been in question since August 2013, when he had a surgical procedure at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center after being diagnosed that month. He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation and given a clean bill of health that November, according to the vice president’s office."

Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden, Jr. (pronunciation: /ˈdʒoʊsɨf rɒbɨˈnɛt ˈbaɪdən/; born November 20, 1942) is the 47th and current Vice President of the United States, serving under President Barack Obama. A Democrat, he was a United States Senator from Delaware from January 3, 1973 until his resignation on January 15, 2009, following his election to the Vice Presidency.
Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and lived there for ten years before moving to Delaware. He became an attorney in 1969, and was elected to a county council in 1970. Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972 and became the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history. He was re-elected to the Senate six times, was the fourth most senior senator at the time of his resignation, and is the 15th-longest serving Senator in history. Biden was a long-time member and former chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. His strong advocacy helped bring about U.S. military assistance and intervention during the Bosnian War. He opposed the Gulf War in 1991. He voted in favor of the Iraq War Resolution in 2002, but later proposed resolutions to alter U.S. strategy there. He has also served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dealing with issues related to drug policy, crime prevention, and civil liberties, and led creation of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act and Violence Against Women Act. He chaired the Judiciary Committee during the contentious U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.

Beau Biden's Death & Joe Biden's Heartbreaking Honesty
"Beau Biden, the son of Vice President Joseph Biden whose election as Delaware attorney general at age 37 made him an ascending star in the Democratic Party, has died of brain cancer. He was 46. Biden died Saturday night after being admitted earlier this month to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, for a recurrence of brain cancer. His health had been in question since August 2013, when he had a surgical procedure at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center after being diagnosed that month. He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation and given a clean bill of health that November, according to the vice president’s office."
