Babinda is a small town and suburb in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of Cairns. At the 2011 Australian Census the town recorded a population of 1,068.
The town is noted for its proximity to two of Queensland's highest mountains Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden Ker.
Babinda and Tully annually compete for the Golden Gumboot, an award for Australia's wettest town. Babinda is usually the winner, recording an annual rainfall of over 4,200 millimetres each year.
Babinda takes its name from the local Indigenous Australian language for mountain. Other sources, however, claim it is a Yidinji word for water, possibly referring to the high rainfall of the area.
Babinda State School opened on 4 November 1914.
Babinda Post Office opened by 1915 (a Babinda Creek receiving office had been open since 1891).
The Babinda War Memorial was unveiled by the chairman of the Cairns Shire Council Seymour Warner on 25 April 1927.
In March 2006, Babinda was struck by Cyclone Larry, damaging up to 80% of buildings.

Devil's Pool, Babinda Boulders.
Judi Van Dycke born in Adelaide in 1952 and has lived most of her life mainly in North Queensland in a little town called Babinda, just 58k south of Cairns, N.Q. Over the last 3 years, Ive discovered the voice within and decided to let it out and with that came the writing of The Babinda Town Song just over 2 years ago. The southern corridor of Cairns has not been given the opportunity to shine in the Tourism Arena as that of the more commercialised Northern Cairns, so I wrote, then recorded my song professionally with the best in Cairns, Nigel Pegrum at Pegasus Studio. It was not till about 6 months ago that I met a local amateur photographer by the name of Mark Richards and mentioned my dream to create a 5 minute movie clip to the song and he, there and then, offered to have a go at f...
The far north Queensland town of Babinda survived Cyclone Yasi, but is now reeling from the announcement the town's sugar mill will close.
The Babinda Harvest Festival is an annual Babinda event. In this sugar town, it celebrates the start of the sugarcane harvest (mid June), as well as celebrating the harvesting of other tropical produce from our region -- bananas, pawpaws, tropical flowers and vailla to name a few. A lovely local community who made us most welcome. In 2013 the Babinda Festival, just south of Cairns, will celebrate it's 50th anniversary, making it by our reckoning as one of Australia's oldest festivals. The parade was community festival at its best. The showground was 98 per cent locals which demonstrates the strength of the town which boosts the highest annual rainfall in Australia. We were totally besotted by the Babinda Harvest Queen component where young local women compete in several categories guage...
We visited the Babinda Boulders just south of Cairns. It is a very short walk from the car park and fine with little kids. There is a great picnic place by the water and one can walk further up stream to different viewing platforms. Hey friends, this is just a short video that sums up a good day that was spent bonding with my senior cohort. We started the day as Josephine Falls and then moved to Babinda Boulders for a brief period of time. Like ~ Comment ~ Subscribe

Check out the latest tour prices in Cairns - CLICK LINK http://fttv.experienceoz.com.au/cairns We stopped in to check out the some of the great natural experiences that can be enjoyed in Tropical North Queensland. We started in Cairns and went out for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We sailed out to the reef to Michaelmas Cay with Passions of paradise. The great thing about this location is that you can snorkel right of the beach and if you are a certified diver you can also scuba dive this location. We then decided to head north to check out the Daintree Rainforest. To get to the Daintree head towards Port Douglas. On your way to the Daintree be sure to check out Mossman Gorge, if its a hot day its a great place to go for a swim. When you get to the Daintree there are many great wa...

Part of the river we visited with Uncle Brians Tablelands tour - 'Fun falls and forests'. Booked through Travellers Oasis - A really good hostel in Cairns. This part of the river was very close to the Babinda Boulders, just south of Cairns, Australia! :) Filmed on Saturday 1st May - 2010.
A liitle trip made while staying at Bramston Beach
Oh baby why not
Just take one more chance
And risk all we got
On this luckless romance
If someone asks why
We'll say we forgot
And went kinda crazy
Oh baby why not
If love needs a fool
For it to survive
It sure looks to me
Like we both qualify
And a pair of fools
Will always beat one
So let's play the cards
And get this deal done
Oh baby why not
Bet big on the bliss
And laugh in the face
Of what all odds insist
If someone asks why
We'll say we forgot
And both lost our minds
Oh baby why not
Oh baby please
You and I
Are exactly what we need
So let's throw away all care
Move out on the edge somewhere
Find a place and just swing there in the breeze
Oh baby why not
Just take one more chance
And risk all we got
On this luckless romance
If someone asks why
We'll say we forgot
And threw our lives away
Oh baby why not
And went kinda crazy
Oh baby why not
And both lost our minds
Oh baby why not
Oh baby, oh baby
Oh baby, oh baby why not
Why not, why not
Why not, why not
Why not, why not
Why not, why not
Why not
Give me three good reasons, and I'll let you up
No, wait a minute, give me five good reasons and I'll let you up
Uh huh, uh huh
No, four don't count, 'cause that's your mother's reason
Hey, don't bite me
