The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a bachelor's degree in commerce and business administration. In most universities, the degree is conferred upon a student after four years of full-time study (120 credit hours) in one or more areas of business concentrations; see below. The BBA program usually includes general business courses and advanced courses for specific concentrations. Note that the BSBA - a variant on this degree[citation needed] - usually differs as regards to General educational requirements.
The degree is designed to give a broad knowledge of the functional areas of a company, and their interconnection, while also allowing for specialization in a particular area. BBA programs thus expose students to a variety of "core subjects", and, as above, allow students to specialize in a specific academic area; see MBA program content. The degree also develops the student's practical managerial skills, communication skills and business decision-making capability. Many programs thus incorporate training and practical experience, in the form of case projects, presentations, internships, industrial visits, and interaction with experts from the industry. For a comparison with other undergraduate degrees oN cricket:D, see further under Bachelor's degree.
The administration of a business is synonymous with the performance or management of business operations, maybe including important decision making. Thus it is likely to include the efficient organisation of people and other resources so as to direct activities toward common goals and objectives.
The word is derived from the Middle English word administracioun, which is in turn derived from the French administration, itself derived from the Latin administratio — a compounding of ad ("to") and ministrare ("give service").
Administrator can occasionally serve as the title of the general manager or company secretary who reports to a corporate board of directors. This title is archaic, but, in many enterprises, the general management function, including the associated Finance, Personnel and management information systems services, is what is meant by the term "administration".
In some organizational analyses, management is viewed as a subset of administration, specifically associated with the technical and mundane elements within an organization's operation. It stands distinct from executive or strategic work.
A Bachelor of Business (B.Bus, BBus, BBus (Major)) is a three or four year business degree offered by traditional and newer universities from the post-Dawkins era in Australia and New Zealand.[citation needed] It is similar in format and structure to a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) and Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS); see further under Bachelor's degree.
In Australia, it was traditionally awarded by former non-university tertiary institutions which include institutes of technologies, such as Queensland University of Technology, RMIT University and the University of Technology, Sydney. Some former Institute of Technologies and Colleges such as Ballarat College of Advanced Education (University of Ballarat), Swinburne Insititue of Technology (Swinburne University) the South Australia Institute of Technology (University of South Australia) and the Western Australia Institute of Technology (Curtin University of Technology)have renamed their Buinsess programs to Bachelor of Commerce after achieving university status.
