Calcutta/New Delhi: The fraternity congratulated Anil Kumble on becoming the head coach of the Indian team on Thursday. From Sunil Gavaskar to Virat Kohli, all felt that under Kumble's guidance, a great future awaits Indian cricket.
Here's what some had to say:
Deep Dasgupta: Anil is a great choice. He's not only hugely respected but has also worked with the current crop of players in his role as mentor in the IPL. He knows how the current lot work and their line of thinking. This is very important since post T20, the game has changed a lot. He has the ability to take Indian cricket forward.
Devang Gandhi: It's a fantastic decision. Anil brings in a world of experience. He's always been a fighter and his work ethic is excellent. All credit to the trio of Sourav, Sachin and Laxman, who chose him above the others. They have seen Anil from close quarters and know him best. Due weightage has also been given to the road map Anil has for Indian cricket.
Sunil Gavaskar: You don't need a coaching degree, all you have to be is a good man manager. Kumble brings in a lot of determination, experience and intelligence as the India coach. One year term as India coach is more than enough. He will earn a lot of respect in the dressing room. He has been a great performer for India. Kumble would certainly give his opinions. I don't see him being a passive coach. As far as achievements go, he will be a living example in front of the players.
Virat Kohli: Heartiest welcome to @anilkumble1074 Sir. Look forward to your tenure with us. Great things in store for Indian Cricket with you.
Arun Lal: Anil is a wonderful choice. He has been an amazing cricketer, always calm and collected... A thorough gentleman with a dignified personality. You don't need to have coaching experience, not for someone like Anil Kumble. He knows the modern game inside out... He knows how the players respond to situations... He knows it all.
Sanjay Manjrekar: The Indian cricket team now has a coach who will put his heart & soul in the job. Anil Kumble knows no other way of working.
Erapalli Prasanna: I thought that Anil will be the bowling coach and Ravi Shastri will take care of the batting, but now the decision has been made. We have to see how he uses his immense knowledge of the game in coaching, how he shares it with the players. I would say it is a good choice.
Virender Sehwag: Jumbo news 4Team India.Congrats @anilkumble1074 To have a coach who cud play wid broken jaw wud be an inspiration fr guys in dressing room.
Harbhajan Singh: Great news for indian cricket.. congratulation Anil Bhai @anilkumble1074 for becoming the head coach of @BCCI. good luck going forward.
Gundappa Viswanath: Anil to me is a very good choice. He is a good student of the game and that will help him in his new role. He has been a great player for India and he has it in him to be a good coach.
