Somebody (Aerosmith song)

"Somebody" is the B-side to Aerosmith's first single, "Dream On", from their 1973 debut album, Aerosmith. Written by lead singer Steven Tyler and his friend Steven Emspak and released in June 1973, its A-side peaked at number 59 nationally but hit big in the band's native Boston, where it was the number 1 single of the year on the less commercial top 40 station, WBZ-FM, number 5 for the year on highly rated Top 40 WRKO-AM, and number 16 on heritage Top 40 WMEX-AM.

"Somebody" is driven by a basic blues guitar riff and Tyler's lyrics tell the story of a character trying to search for the woman of his dreams. The character is in need of someone who shares the work with him and has been through the same difficulties in their life as he has. Originally written in 1970.

Live performances

Aerosmith regularly performed this song throughout the early seventies, the first known time was in Mendon, Massachusetts on November 6, 1970 at Nipmuc Regional High School. The last-known performance of the song was in Yokohama on June 26, 1988 at the Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium during the Permanent Vacation Tour.

Somebody is a song by American singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee from her debut album Trouble (2004). The song was written by McKee, Robert Orrall, and Al Anderson, while production was mainly handled by Rob Cavallo with help from Antonia Armato. The song was released as the second single from the album sometime during 2004. A music video was released sometime during 2004. Somebody was featured on the soundtrack of the 2004 film "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!", which McKee also appeared in.

Release history

"Somebody" was released with Bonnie McKee's debut four-song EP Bonnie McKee on December 9, 2003. The song was released as a single on July 20, 2004, and contained the original version along with an acoustic version. It was later released with McKee's first full length Trouble on September 7, 2004. A radio mix of the song was included in the compilation album The Artist Lounge Sampler (released April 12, 2005) while the original version was included in Warner Bros' compilation extended play Ahead of the June '04. It was featured in the film Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!.

Candy (Iggy Pop song)

"Candy" is a song by Iggy Pop from his ninth solo album, Brick by Brick. The song is a duet with Kate Pierson of The B-52's, and was released as the album's second single in September 1990. The song became the biggest mainstream hit of Pop's career, as he reached the US Top 40 chart for the first and only time.

"Candy" was later included on the 1996 compilation Nude & Rude: The Best of Iggy Pop, as well as the 2005 two-disc greatest hits collection, A Million in Prizes: The Anthology.

Lyrics

In "Candy", the initial narrator is a man (Pop) who grieves over a lost love. Following the first chorus, the perspective of the woman (Pierson) is heard. She expresses, unbeknownst to the male, that she misses him as well. According to Pop, the lyrics refer to his teenage girlfriend, Betsy. Pop said:

Another interpretation of the song is that the male protagonist sings to a prostitute, who gave him "love for free," while the woman explains that she has grown tired of the men "down on the street", and that she just wants love, not games.

Candy (Southern and Hoffenberg novel)

Candy is a 1958 novel written by Maxwell Kenton, the pseudonym of Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg, who wrote it in collaboration for the "dirty book" publisher Olympia Press, which published the novel as part of its "Traveller's Companion" series. According to Hoffenberg,

Southern had a different take on the novel's genesis, claiming it was based on a short story he had written about a girl living in New York's Greenwich Village neighborhood, a Good Samaritan-type, who became involved with a hunchback. After he read Southern's story in manuscript form, Hoffenberg suggested the character should have more adventures. Southern suggested that Hoffenberg write a story about the girl, and he came up with the chapter in which Candy meets Dr. Krankheit at the hospital.

They finished the book in the commune of Tourrettes-sur-Loup France, in a cottage that Southern's friend Mordecai Richler rented for them.

Southern and Hoffenberg battled Olympia Press publisher Maurice Girodias over the copyright after the book was published in North America by Putnam under the authors' own names and became a best-seller.
