MUMBAI. Virar commuters, known for their unruly behaviour towards their counterparts from Borivli, got a taste of their own medicine on Wednesday night, when commuters of a Dahanu-bound train objected to their alighting at Virar ... The commuters were forced to travel up to Vaitarna station before they could alight. The RPF arrested 14 men, all residents of Palghar, and fined them Rs 1,000-2,000 ... The arrested men were released by 1am....

Government ignores proposal for water flow

The state cabinet did not seem to be interested in the Marathwada Development Board recommendation of diversion of water from Upper Vaitarna dam into Godavari basin by gravity and lift irrigation. Shankar Nagare, expert member of Marathwada Development Board, said the Godavari basin could have easily received nearly 12 TMC water from Upper Vaitarna dam with minimum expenditure of only around Rs 20 crore....

Mumbai's water supply comes from seven reservoirs - Modak Sagar, Tansa Lake, Vihar Lake, Tulsi Lake, Upper Vaitarna, Bhatsa and Middle Vaitarna. The Bhatsa and Upper Vaitarna come under state government's control while the others are maintained by the BMC.
